Didn't catch this part before, I did the same exact thing lol. It let me make it as far as trying to find a game to join and it kept locking up. It was my first time trying the game too so I was getting pissed that Multiplayer wasn't working. Took me at least 10 minutes to realize...

I agree. the CPU part made me feel good about this. If it required min a C2D then that's iffy but min at pentium then all the games I've experienced with those min requirements run well

Just tried Batman Arkham Asylum and it runs pretty good. A few hitches here and there (might just be it loading) but overall very playable. 1366x768 and all on high, except for texture details. That was on very high lol. I ran it with CPU OC'ed.

Also tried Call of Juarez Bound in Blood. Everything on high at 1366x768. Very playable also.

Yeah this is my main game at the moment. I find it plays well, but I can't find any way to change the settings on it. It's not in options. Where did you find it? I'm probably being blind, it's happening a lot lately. :p

More on this, and now it's really weird... I took a look at the process in task manager. I tweaked the priority for the me2 process up a bit. No effect. Then I changed the processor affinity from both to just processor 0. Save game load times went from an average of 70 seconds with both processors to 15 seconds with just processor 0! I switched it back and forth a few times to prove this was the problem.

I don't like running on just one processor though. Any idea what is going on here?!

I expect it to run smooth. It's an Unreal Engine game after all.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising will play on medium and high settings but anything higher and it begins to lag on larger battles.

Mass Effect 2 plays great with everything turned on.

I looked online and looks like there was a bug that affected some multicore users. Doesn't seem like a fix was ever put out. Not sure

I saw this app that does the switch for you, one core to load the game, and then reenables them both in the game.

Mass Effect 2 Slowdown with Core 2 Duo Solved!!

OK. I think I worked this out with some help from a guy over at playwrite-blog.net who noticed the same problem.

Depending upon your configuration, maybe because I have Windows Ultimate, maybe because I overclocked, who knows... ME2 will bog down on any load with 2 cores active. This little application solves the problem: MassAffinity.

I had to turn UAC all the way off for it to work. Otherwise the program times out while you confirm you are OK with any changes. After that, I just dropped MassAffinity into the Games directory and launch it instead of ME2. No more problems!

Edit: Thanks, Dallow. +rep. I must have been typing as you hit submit.

I've got Metro downloaded, will test this afternoon... stuck at work currently ha

EDIT: So, sorry for the delays, but got home about 3:30, and have been stuck redownloading the dang thing... first, when unlocking my pre-load, it required a 2.1gb download to update... and now, got that done, and tried to play, and it won't start... so, verfied cache, and now it's downloading 2047MB more... ugg, so much for the pre-load ha! The entire game is only 7GB, which I had already downloaded.

Will update if it works this time, about 1300MB to go on this go round.

OK, have Metro 2033 running, finally.

First of all, this game has great graphics, and is keeping my GPU pinned at 99%. At 1366x768 and settings to low, the game still looks spectacular, but is a bit too demanding in open battle scenes for those picky about framerate. I'm getting anywhere from ~15 in wide open battles outside when being attacked by hordes of whatever the heck they are, haven't played enought to know, to stable ~30's, on up to ~50-70 in doors when there isn't a crazy amount of dynamic lighting going on.

So, totally playable at times, to debatable in worst case. Definitely a demanding game, and if the M11x is your only means to play it, I'd probably say either don't buy it or wait until there are some tweaks that increase performance a bit.

This is based on the first mission playthrough though, so could get worse or better, not sure. Dropping to 800x600 has helped, and makes the game in my opinion playable and enjoyable, but it's not gonna run at 60fps for the guys that demand that! Will update with more info as game progresses.

Gotta say though, even at 800x600 low, it's still a great looking game ha

I tried Metro earlier today and found that it didn't fare well on the M11x. I put it on the lowest settings and the framerate was okay in areas where nothing was happening but as soon as any shooting starts it took a nose dive. I have my CPU oc with stock settings on the GPU. I'm going to have to play this one on my desktop.

Sounds like you guys will need to tweak the ini files to get some better framerates. Metro seems to be very demanding.

For comparison, it's totally playable on my G51, but even with that it's dropping to ~20fps at times, so the game is simply REALLY demanding... not a knock against the M11x as much as the game is just tough on PC's!

    Fun game though so far.

Anyone got news about WoW specifically how it handles the dense areas as well as handling 25man raids? I read a post earlier in the thread, but I think it was more about asking the same question so bumping his one to a point.

And since people here are avid steam users, if I were to purchase l4d2 on disc, install and register on steam on main PC would I still need the dics for the m11x or would registering it on steam allow me to download straight from there servers? Cheers to anyone who can answer these.

Just played about 2 hours of Gears of War maxed with forced Vsync and 8x AA. Smooth as silk!

EDIT: Just played some Crysis on medium no AA. Man the game still looks great at medium! Ran smooth too! This little machine can do anything.

Yeah, you won't technically ever need the disc. It's a steamworks game, meaning you can just use the cd key it came with to activate it, and download the game from steam.

All you will ever need is the CD Key. Once you activate, you can download the game via steam. The DVD install gets more and more useless over time as the updates stack up.

Played more Just Cause 2 demo today just to see if I want to pick it up or not cause it does seem like a fun game. Ran it at medium settings at x720 resolution and the game stayed around 30fps the whole time. Guess I'll pick this one up ha ha. Didn't like the first one cause of the wonky controls, but JC2 seems to have fixed that. Was a pretty good time.

ok, frustrated and confused, but struggling with Metro2033... for some reason, it now refuses to run on BOTH of my machines... how is that even possible? Both run it yesterday, and today, both crash exactly at the same spot on launching the game? Neither machine passes the intro videos now. And both ran the game yesterday.... no changes other than power off and going to bed, work, and clicking launch today... confused?

Bottom line, at this point, have to say stay away from Metro at this point for M11x users.

I know this is a ridiculously long shot, but I remember seeing several people who got into the SC2 beta in the M11X threads. I was hoping (along with like 5 million other people) that some kind soul in the beta might be able to use one their friend invites to invite me.

In return, I would do anything you want that was within my power to do, perhaps people want to see an M11X SC2 Livestream or something. Maybe you would want a game in trade. Heck, maybe you want someone to write your college paper. No matter the task, I am your man! *Offer only available after receipt of SC2 beta key, not responsible for grades on aforementioned paper.

Anyway, if anyone is feeling generous hit me with a PM to get my email.

I just finished playing Crysis on the m11x and it plays great! I really liked the game and look forward to the next one coming out. The only weird thing I noticed with Crysis is that the sound is terrible on the M11x. Everything had static sounds and not very smooth. I noticed when hooked up to my LCD using hdmi, the game sounds fine. Also, my othe games all sound fine on the machine except Crysis. I wonder why, but it doesn't matter much now since I finished the game.

I might buy one of these laptops too, but I'm still curious about how well it plays Crysis. What are the highest graphic levels you can play on, and is it possible to turn shadows to medium(not low)?

I played it on all medium settings, AA set to 2X and resolution at 1280 x 720. It plays okay at 1378 x 766, but it seems a little smoother with the 1280 resolution. You also cannot tell the difference that much while playing on the 11.6" screen. No matter what settings, the sound was pretty awful, yet bearable.

I tested out Metro 2033 on my M11x today..

my CPU and GPU are both overclocked.. yet it's not running very smooth even when i turn the resolutions down..

every other game I had runs perfect.. except Metro 2033.. seems like the game demands more processing power..

it may have been some type of video setting that was changed, causing it to crash. i had the same problem and renamed the user.cfg file under the following location to have it recreated:

    X:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033

I thought the first Anno 1404 was really good, and Venice is just an expansion pack. Incredibly good graphics, so probably don't expect to run it maxed on the M11X. If you have never played Anno then Dawn Of Discovery is a better way to start, I think it is for PC (maybe, i played it on Wii), but it is a simplified Anno and I thought it was awesome.

Update: Doesn't look like the PC Dawn of Discovery is the simplified version, just another game using the Anno 1404 engine. If you are able I would recommend Dawn of Discovery on Wii, since it makes a great first time introduction to Anno. Though certainly you could just dive right in, just be prepared to learn a lot, the PC Anno titles are really deep.

People in the SC2 beta recently got the ability to invite friends. I don't know if they email you, if it appears in your battle.net account, or perhaps somewhere within the beta like on the news page.

You can read about it: http://kotaku.com/5496972/starcraft-ii-beta-invites-now-going-out-to-your-closest-friends

(Actually looks like an additional email, so you might want to check your email and spam folder carefully for it, since you should have received one)

If you happen to get one and don't have anyone else begging at your feet for it then I would be ecstatic to receive an invite. Been opted-in for like 2 years and after 4 waves still no invite for me, so I am pretty sad.

Update 2: If you look in your email and spam and don't have one make sure the "Receive communications from Blizzard Entertainment" is checked in your battle.net account. If it is not then you will get the friend invite email as soon as you check it.
