mine was like that on the bottom right, as you use the laptop (open/close) it will start to pop out worse, and you'll be pushing it back all the time.. made me concerned for the long term, which is why I went for replacement (along with the other gap at top)
-
yes you can push it in, but it warps back after sometime
-
I do see a little gap on it yesterday morning,is not much just little on the bottom left. after push it in and open/close for many times it doesnt seen to pop out anymore. If it does then i will call dell for it.
-
- When I initially received the unit - there was a dust particle in the middle (on the INSIDE) of the screen. Additionally - there was a gap at the top right side of the screen (by looking at a straight/normal viewing angle to the display - not via the side angle like the OP), which I assumed caused the dust particles to be within the display.
- I called AW - they sent out a tech next day with a new screen. Screen was replaced promptly.
- New screen was great/fine. No dust specs - and no apparent misaligned gaps around the edges of the screen with regards to the screen However - after reading the OP - I checked the same spot on my "new" screen (i.e. looking at the screen from a side angle instead of straight on).
- While not popped out near as bad as the OP's screen - my lower right corner, when looking at it from a side angle, was slightly elevated, popped out - enough to be alarmed (expectation would be that it would be flush).
- Once I found that - I took a soft cloth - and simply pushed in firmly around the edge of the entire screen, including around the bottom. I've since then looked at it daily and all appears to be well - however, it is a little disconcerting to see this kind of flaw in such a key part of the overall unit. There's obviously some form of potential issue with the assembly of these screens.
As noted above, everything now appears to be flush / correct. However - if it pops out again - I'll post a follow-up. -
so alienware hinges are still as crappy as they were on the m15x...
well my next notebook will be for sure from another manufacturer -
Can someone with the keyboard issue please send me a photo of the problem so that I can investigate and better understand what is going on?
Also, for those of you who have dust within the display, is it possible to get a photo that shows the problem? If so, that would be highly appreciated.
I've got our engineering teams looking into the LCD gap issue. Apologies for any delays in support contacting those of you who have PM'd me. If you absolutely want to get this taken care of immediately, please call into support and they will get you a new display.
Thanks. -

Not exactly sure how to private message on here. Send me a message ill reply.
Also no response from Dell today regarding my service call. Says part was over nighted but haven't been contacted when he will be onsite... -
Looks like I don't have access to PM's for some reason??

Just tried again and no go.
Scratch that, working now.
Thanks. -
Argh, everytime I think I found a new laptop I read about issues like this. Is it so hard to make something decent then? It seems every brand is trying so hard to keep the prices low (to compare with acer for example) that they forget the most importent thing: making something that works and won't fall apart >.>
You can't say its the fault of capitalism, its the fault of everybody who tries to pay as little as possible. -
Honestly bro, everything has potential to have a bad build ect but the support is what makes a difference.
Everything with this laptop is awesome and dealing with support has been good so far.
try calling acer or maybe call india for HP... You'll see the difference. -
-
Support has been pretty great so far for me as well, I can only really judge by communication at this point, but I dont see how they could do better.
As for build quality, this thing cost $1000. I'll stick with iffy factory QC at cheap prices so long as they fix the small bad percentage.
In general the materials used were pretty good, they just have poor sourcing on that screen, or at least on the housing. I'd guess it is less an assembly issue and more an issue of parts not in spec, since the gap seems to come from that plastic sheet just not being quite the right size.
Too short vertically? Gap at top.
Too wide? Pops off on right hand side and creates a gap there.
Mine is, well, both.
I wish they were glass, as they'd just have shattered in the factory rather than bent and the problem would've never made it out

Guys, just wanted to let you all know that we are working hard here to root case this issue and resolve, along with the other ones we're seeing. We sincerly appreciate your patience and will get these issues taken care of for all of you.
-
erawneila is it possible to check if my replacement will be from a new batch? -
erawneila PM'd me that the issue have been resolved. I guess that only applies to newer units. Glad to hear!

I got really happy with dell today after I called from Mexico (Im studying here) and asking for warranty. I thought that since I bought it in the US they would tell me they would not service it here, but after calling the tech said that the warranty is also covered down here and they would even send a tech to check on the problem (fan rattle).
So im really surprised they are taking care of this down here.
Also, im really new to this "tech goes to your house and fixes it". I've never had this sort of experience, I always go to best buy and wait a few weeks for the repairs to be done. -
-
When I purchased my M1530 2 years ago one of the sales rep gave me a hard time deleting my order from the system and not returning my calls. Eventually I contacted CS who made sure the rep would never touch my account again and a few days later I found a $200 voucher in my inbox from Dell to compensate me for my trouble.
So my experience with Dell has been oposite of yours and I did not hesitate to recomend them to quite a few friends who have been happy with the service and quality.
While I do sympathise with your situation I think it may not be the norm. Perhaps you were higly unlucky with the people you ended up dealing with like my rogue sales rep.
Anyway it's too bad you have returned your M11x, not sure what the issues were with yours but the one I received was perfect. This is a new product which could explain some Quality issues people have reported.
Anyway, good luck with your next purchase! -

Plus, look what their techs do:

I'd have returned like him if they had not agreed to cross ship mine (though I would have re-ordered)
I dont want some crusty contractor tech who has never seen an m11x to ever open my laptop. I want one built by Dell than looks and runs like the review units that sold me on it. -

I echoed this on another thread,DO NOT let some idiot tear apart your new laptop, call and demand a new replacement laptop, and if they give you any crap, get a REFUND.
-
I don't get it, don't they require you to sign some sort of paper where you acknowledge the repair is complete?
If that's the case you could demand that you won't sign anything till the laptop is like its supposed to be. -
wow didnt even notice it till i looked in this thread. i pushed and it just popped back in. not a deal breaker for me
-
-
it seems like it snapped back in for good, ill see how it turns out in a few days before i make a call.
-
Plus - add to the fact, I've been checking it everyday and giving it a little nudge to ensure it doesn't poke out again..
Either way - overall - the unit has been great - save for the plastic screen not fitting properly. It's not like it doesn't actually work .. -
Give them a call and be adamant about having the system replaced. Explain to them how it is not right to have work done to a band new system. When work is done on it, it's not new anymore. Explain that to them. If you are extremely adamant about it, they will eventually do a system replacement.
-
I get my replacement tomorrow. Hopefully without the issue and quieter fan
-
Cool, hope this one is a keeper klas!

Just recived mine on 3-19-10 I noticed yesterday that screen on righthand side plastic cover is bulging out where it meets the matte plastic base.
I pushed it in flush but after 10 times opening screen started bulging out again.
Also keyboard is tilted up at control key should i keep this one or request a new one? -
-
After much thought I have decided to ask Dell for a replacement. I belive that over time the screen gap on the right on the bottom will just get worse.
And although I could live with the keyboard issue the two poblems together for a laptop that cost 1,000 is not acceptable.
Calling tomarrow to ask for a replacement. -
Called Dell today, they are going to send me a new computer.
Although I don't like the problems that i have had with the computer at least the exchange process seems to be working well -
-
Same here.... since 3/3, hasnt budged. Meanwhile, identical new orders have gone out to people in as little as 7 days.
hilariously, they claimed they would send replacement unit in 5-7 days.. hah -
Is it a DELL support # or Alienware Support # ?
I also have the 1 year accidental support by the way -
They promised me my replacement in about 11 to 15 days, as long as i have this one I am not missing anything so I don't mind the wait.
Still enjoying the long battery life and having a portable flight simulator fsx machine. -
i had seen this thread about a week ago and checked my screen and had no bulging, but noticed today that now i have the same screen bulging that people have had on the right side of the screen... what to do now?
and what is going on under the screen cover to cause the sudden bulging??
i tried pressing down on the bulge but it wont move and feeling like there is something under it -
I kept pushing my bulge in but noticed over time that it just appeared to get larger. Called to get mine replaced.
