Now I learn that the m11x is going to be for sale at best buy while I still wait for my defect free m11x.
I must say that even while I wait, I am still happy whith the speed and long battery life of this one. If it just did'nt have the screen and keyboard problem I would be happy

, first I didn't see it, but when I noticed what it was I thought ?
3 possibilities:
1: Dell is sending us broken stuff.
2: Dell is sending us stuff that will break during the journey to our homes.
3: The company that sends us hardware likes to play soccer with our products(which is the most unlikely).
? Am I supposed to pray for a good M11x? Mine hasn't arrived yet but I'm constantly reading about things that don't work... -

Same problem here. Called support and they going to replace the LCD for me.
-
ERAWNEILA could I ask you why they would cancel my replacement laptop?
-
Is this screen gap issue just noticed during first days of use or did it appear later on in any case?
-
About 2 days before i really noticed it but it does get worse as time goes on. now if i open and close the lid it pops out after about 4 times. I did not mind the keyboard not being even in the base but this is not a problem that you should have with a new laptop. to make problems worse when contacted dell they said no problem they would replace it now i learn that they have canceled the replacement laptop with no reason given so far.
-
Yeah, I know... Sorry about the cancellation of the exchanges. I think we have that problem solved now, or at least I sure hope so. Apologies to those who were affected.
For those of you who have LCD gaps, please call support and have them replace the LCD assembly. This is definitely not normal and needs to be fixed.
Thanks! -
Actually when I received this notebook, I did not notice it until my wife almost scrape her hand on the corner and after closer inspection in light, both sides are like that and small debris like dust could possibly get in if it gets worse. I also have this gap on my actual notebook casing. I also have other quality issues, but don't want to go off topic.
All these issues are minor, but they definitely need to be re-evaluated and corrected for future customers. I just hope I, as well as, other members get their LCD replacement or notebook exchanged.
Thank you erawneila and alienware for your support and please keep it coming -
there's some gap in between the screen and the aluminium cover of my m11x. well, it sucks anywayz
-
Definitely had the screen gap with one purchased just this week from Best Buy. I was able to push it right back in though....have opened/closed many times since and so far so good. It looked/felt like they missed a clip when assembling.

So, check this out.
Ordered 4/16, received 4/22. Too good to be true.Attached Files:

Also, you can see more light through the gap in the left hinge than you can see through the gap in the right hinge.
Last but not least, the right hinge clicks.
fortunately, regarding the type of gap that the original poster has, my laptop doesn't really have that. It might be popping out 1/32 of an inch in the lower right corner, but at 1/32 of an inch, I'm not even sure if I'm just seeing an illusion.Attached Files:

WOw... looks pretty sloppy. Mine has the same gaps, but WAAAAY smaller.

I have a feeling the issue is shoddy construction during the build and its not being checked for properly by QA. A couple seem to be slipping through still...

this is why I'm hesitant to complain about my latest unit I have. I've just gotten a new unit today (after waiting through 2 cancellations and ultimately just returning my unit for a refund).
All said and done.. my latest unit is "perfect" with regards to the overall build - no gaps (actually the best screen I've seen/had to-date) - fan is quieter - actually ramps up/down with the new drivers - etc.
However (there's always a "but") - there looks to be a single dead pixel near the bottom left of my screen on this unit. Not a real biggie - as it's not anywhere near the middle of the screen to even be bothersome - but it's just "there". I'm just afraid to get another screen ordered to replace this one because of the issues previously.
We'll see if it really starts to bug me..- overall - I'm "happier" with this latest unit. If it weren't for the dead pixel - I'd be ecstatic..

To be fair, the pictures I posted exaggerate the gaps. The gap in the upper left corner of the screen is a full mm thick. The rest just are generally around half a mm or less. While not overly large, nor do they probably affect overall build quality, they are nevertheless glaring gaps, and are gaps in six out of the eight corners on the laptop.
I PMed erawneila and am trying to figure out if gaps these sizes are perfectly normal off of the assembly line. If they are, then it's a fact of life and kind of disappointing, but not worth getting a replacement then. Even if I do get a replacement, there's no guarantee that the new one would even have eliminated these gaps. -
Just recived my replacement this evening. The keyboard is sitting in the base evenly and there apperes to be no screen gap at the bottom of the screen.
A special thanks to erawneila for his/her help and support! -
I had the same screen bulging issue, but it was along almost the entire right side of the screen. I actually didn't even notice it for a few weeks. Anyway, I was able to press it back in and that seems to have worked. It's been about three weeks since and it hasn't popped out at all even under frequent use. It did take a bit of fiddling to get it to pop back in though. When i pressed in one area, another area would pop out. Then I just pressed along the whole side at once and it all popped in nicely. Fingers crossed that it stays...

So here's another gap that I noticed after I finally turned on the laptop. The light bleeding isn't the deal breaker for me, but the asymmetrical aspect given that the other side doesn't have this gap for light to bleed is.
AND, to top that off, a technician came by today to replace my screen and casing. The screen Dell sent him was the wrong color, and the casing part that they sent didn't look like it would fix this gap near the speaker grill. I gave Dell a chance to fix it the cheaper way. I think it's time I just ask for a replacement unit.Attached Files:

Does this issue still exist with the new m11x laptops comming out? Or was this problem fixed and are only the first buyers the ones who have this problem?
-
I had exactly the same, but on the grey lid, I then returned it and sent me another laptop (With a black lid) and that was fine.
-
If you have the outer plastic of the screen bulging at the bottom of the screen or a keyboard that's not set in right just ask for a replacement.
I did and I feel so much better after the replacement arrived perfect except for stuck on led in the right front screen. -
-
Ok I just discovered I have this problem too at exactly the same spot, but it pops out a little less than what you see on the picture in post number 1.
. If it will "grow" I'll call dell and ask for a new one. this is rediculous. -
Not a stuck pixel on the screen but a bright led on the front speaker grill light display. -
I had to go through 2 replacement until the last one that came the other day was better.
One first replacement, i still had the gaps on the LCD lid visible as well as the camera being loose and not in the middle.
Second replacement, the gaps are near gone and camera is better.
but I have to say this one thing.
Out of all 3 notebooks I had, all 3 had the same exact keyboard lighting problem on white.
The left side of the keyboard, from ESC key to CTRL key, the colors varied from whiting/reddish, whitish/bluish, pinkish. All 3 had it and i was fedup waiting for replacements, so I will keep this one.
Luckly I have a 2 year accidental warranty so god forbit my keyboard malfunctions I can get a replacement keyboard or notebook if anything else fails. -
Mine has a slight bulge on the lower right side. I had the hinge issue and they sent a service technician out to fix it about 3 months into the warranty. I noticed the bulge a short while after but it wasn't too bad and I would just push it in. The thing is it seems to be getting worse so I called support since my 1 year warranty runs out in a few weeks and instead of sending a tech they want me to send it in for some reason this time. I'm hesitant to do so because of downtime without my PC, hassle about data saves and worries about what I'll get back in return. Any advice or ideas?
Oh also I have an issue with one of the rubber feet not gripping that this support person said couldn't be fixed. -
You're entitled to next business day on-site repair. You paid for that. Call them back and insist on it. Be polite, but persistent. If the front line phone rep gives you any hassle then ask for his manager. And as always, take notes while you're on the phone with them. Names, dates/times and what they say.

Thanks for the advice. It took a couple transfers and suffering through a wait aggravated further by a disconnected call but I finally have parts being delivered and a tech coming to fix both issues.
