noticed something with gpu-z. on the old dell drivers if i switched to save power from hybrid graphics the card would stay on at very very low clocks like 110 110 220. on the new drivers when i go back to power save on gpu-z it still reads the card but it says the clocks are at 0 and it doesn't recognize the shader only core and mem.
don't know if that means that it is actually turning off the card any other way to check.

Erawneila - Thanks for the updates you have been giving us - however do you know if a BIOS update is in the works to address the unstable OC facility being found among the forums buy an unfourtunate few? Just hearing something is being looked at would put my mind at ease as I recieved a new one of these from BB (my fiance shipped it to me in dubai) but sadly it suffers from unstable OC and sadly I am not going to be back in the states within the 14 day grace period... so would have to take it up with dell if the issue is NOT going to be addressed.
Many Thanks!
Ben -
Thanks. I just got em.
HKLM,"Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Hybrid",HybridPlatformRole,%REG_DWORD%,1
^ enables taskbar switching.
Also for fruture reference Dell if you include
DriverVer=09/02/2009,8.15.10.1892
under
[iCNT0]
the Intel drivers will be versiond properly.
Just noticed you disabled smart hybrid and the power policy too eh. Not sure why you guys would do that. Forcing users to switch using the function keys I guess.
EDIT: Anyways I will stop pulling things apart. Nice job guys/gals your work is much appreciated. Ok a couple more. Why the drop back to 1892 on the Intel side? And why does the uninstall file still only remove the 32bit Intel files?! -
quick qestion, i know i saw the answer somewhere but couldn't find it. does the cpu OC to 1.73 cuz cpu-id shows it at 1.6. which is it actually. and whats the unstable overclock that organisedrhyme is talking about.
-
Common consensus seems to agree its a reporting error and its indeed 1.73. As for the unstable OC, the bottom line is some people have some bum processors that won't stably overclock. They need to get their processors replaced. Hopefully in the future a new bios will allow more voltage options and overclocking potential, but that won't change the simple fact that people who can't overclock currently have processors with issues and they should be replaced.
-
so the gpu is now scaling automatically. the clocks are changing depending on what i'm doing, before they were always at full bore. also since now the clocks are at 0 after switch to intel does it mean the gpu is off.

I have been having problems with my m11x. I have intermittant freezes while playing Mass Effect 2. The game will just lock up, and have some small graphic glitches scattered across the screen. It is so random that I am trying to determine if this is a hardware issue or something maybe driver related. I run my system with only dedicated graphics set in the BIOS. Anyone else have a similar issue? Could a driver be causing what looks to be a hardware issue to me?
Additionally, I have been trying stability tests. I have the Crysis benchmark set to just run continuously and then just go to work. By the time I get home it has always crashed back to the desktop. Just Crysis crashes though, not the whole system like when playing Mass Effect 2, where I have to do a hard reset to recover. Thoughts anyone? I'm at work right now and so I think I am using the newest nVidia drivers version 197.16, but I was thinking of going back to the 188's on Dell's site just to test. -
I have the following driver now;
version 8.16.11.8855
date 12/28/2009
Should I download the new 197.16 driver? And if it doesn't work, is it possible to download the old one? -
Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
Up on the support page. Its listed as a beta driver.
-
so... basically they're useless, and fix none of the actual issues that would be the only reason that i would come back from 197.16/dell 188.55 fusion.
.... does it at the very least stop the (sometimes occourring) background dissapearing bug after gpu swap...?
I'm at a loss for words... why didnt we get updated intel versions... why is the 335M still active when switching back to intel... why, why, why... -
thanks erawneila.... Please can you tell us if these drivers are supposed to fix any bugs - like fan issues / gpu power - or is this release just to get us up to a more recent (197) version of nVidia drivers?

I just upped my 197.45 test package. Message me if you would like to test. -
Are these latest drivers from Dell the ones with known Crysis performance issues? I ask because I'm getting ready to play both Crysis and Crysis Warhead and I saw that is a recent "known issues" list for some other Dell nVidia drivers on another Alienware system.
-
I just tried firing Crysis up and it gave me a black screen. This is with the new drivers on Dells site. Whats interesting is Crysis played fine for me under the hacked method. Maybe I will go back to them....
-
Looks like Dell just put in a beta driver for 197.12. I'll try it when I get home.
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=388582
EDIT: Looks like this was already mentioned, but I'm not sure if anyone posted a direct link to it. -
I updated my video driver with Dells new Beta, the driver version on my system says 8.17.11.9712, is this correct?
Also, Crysis looks great, but I am getting a staticy noise on the sound in Crysis, but no other game, anyone have this problem? -
updated driver and fan issue seems to be solved!
going to do some further tests.
Also still awaiting my replacement due to quality issues, but hopefully they will update the nvidia drivers before they ship it. -
I hate to pull a tl;dr, but should I update to the official dell drivers or keep using lksing78s method?
-
Since the Dell driver is labeled as "beta," I assume they will release "official" ones in the near future?
-
I hope you're right. That would be fantastic!
-
Yes, got same thing with stock drivers, the strange part is that I do not have it in any other game la mw,l4d2,shift etc etc ,should not be a hardware related issue...
Seems to be solved now, updated driver (downloaded it manually via dell.com) and now laptop itself seems to have a better sound, tried Crysis and the issue is no longer there, please give it a try yourself and let me know.
Sorry for posting this here!
-
Just run the driver and update it? or do i have to switch to 335M?thanks
-
New "official" drivers are nice, no tricks to install and working great. The issues mentioned still persist (having to put to sleep to fully turn off the 335M, etc), but it's a small price to pay for getting the slight performance boosts the later version gives (compared to 188s) or being able to get extra battery life (in comparison to using the 197.16 WHQL).
-
After switching from nvidia to intel, i noticed the battery 'time remaining' number actually went up, whereas it would remain unchanged before updating to the beta. It may not shut if off COMPLETELY, but it does seem to do something to the video card to reduce its power consumption.
-
Realize after update, my login alienware theme lost. Any solution?
**Problem Solve -
I'll keep 197.16 custom for now since i don have any issue with it so far
but do post any feed back on 197.12 Dell/Alienware Beta Driver..Appriciated
-
agreed. Battery life is fine with 197.16 custom
-
Zlog, I was unable to do any official testing, but from normal use, my fan no longer went from silent to high fan.
it actually stays silent to moderate fan and I don't blame it as it was very hot in my room actually. Also when I play a bit of Multiplayer BFBC2, the fan went to moderate high.
normal - fan stayed on high fan for a long time until it cooled down and then suddenly fan went silent to high intervals every few minutes.
with update - i heard the fan gradually reduce speed to normal fan operation and never went into high mode after.
Only concern is that the fan does stay constantly on a low to medium fan, but like i said it was quite hot in my room last night. no AC on. -
Is anybody showing the PhysX checkmark in GPU-Z? Mine is enabled in the control panel, but shows that its not enabled in GPU-Z. This is withthe official dell 197.12 beta's....
-
Errr... nevermind, PhysX is not included in the driver package. Had to download it seperately
-
was the issue for putting to sleep to fully turn off the 335m found in the 188s also? Was this the reason to put it to sleep so the fans wouldn't be "stuck on"?
-
The main reason to put it to sleep was to totally shut off the 335M so that it was no longer draining battery power for nothing. Although it did help to shut the fan down as well.
-
so far so good.
-
beta driver has destroy switching on my laptop !
-
Uninstall, reboot and reload, turn off any anti-virus, and I would run a Driver cleaner program after the uninstall. Make sure your in the Nvidia mode at the start.
-
The 197.16 was a disaster, lower framerates, switching problems etc.. Restored to my old driver..
-
I won't update until all the problems have been ironed out.
-
no issues at all here, you guys must be doing it wrong
lol
-
glad to hear it Zlog.. i might try it out when i get back home
-
No issues so far for me either.
-
Nevermind, replied without reading whole thread
-
mine shows 10 char

Only problem I had was with the included HD audio driver. It wasn't outputting sound over HDMI unless I did a reboot. Downloaded the old driver pack and reinstalled the old HD Audio driver. Now whenever I plug the HDMI cable in, the sounds comes out.
Graphically, on Dirt 2 1080p Medium, went from Average 30fps Minimum 20fps to Average 32 fps, Minimum 28fps - Wow!
EDIT: Where are the seperate physx drivers? Can someone provide a link? -
After installing the 197.12 betas, after switching to integrated I still have to put the system to sleep before the 335 disappears from the Device manager. I also downloaded the physx package from Nvidia as it appears it is not included with this driver.

stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Question all... Has anyone benched the m11x with the 197.45 or 44 drivers yet? The beta Dell drivers are 197.12 which are now older than what is released via the nvidia website.
Thanks,
StevenX -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Un-installed 197.16 (lsking hybrid) and installed Dell 197.12 beta. All games so far have increased (strangely) in average by anywhere from .5 fps to 2.5 fps. I am happy so far!
Thanks, StevenX -
I am having the same issue. I downloaded the Physx package and installed separately. Physx shows enabled in the control panel, but not in GPU-Z.
-
Nevermind. I ran Trine, and it automatically downloaded Physx again. Now Physx is showing enabled in GPU-Z.
-
So 25 pages of threads here.....someone help..
Where are the downloads?
Where are the instructions?
Does this video driver upgrade step/software actually keep the hybrid functionality? Can we still use Fn+F6 to switch back and forth?
