Ok, am I missing something?
R = Revision
Wouldn't this actually be an R1? Unless there is a revision out there I missed.
-
-
No it doesn't actually... Us users here in NZ are some 2 hours ahead of Malaysia and some 5 ahead of India, yet we don't see any updates.
Just got off the phone with Dell, apparently, Aussie and NZ will see some update to the online site starting tomorrow(9th)-Day after tomorrow(11th).
I believe the above applies to the rest of the world who haven't see any updates to their sites yet. -
I adore your logic, I thought the same too. I guess the term "revision" has gotten colloquialized. Instead, we should be using the word "version."
-
Hmmm, behind the M17X theres also no "R" on the india-Site...
-
Rendition2?
-
Indeed, this new version should be known as the R1. The same line of logic applies to the M17x.. the original M17x isn't part of the current lineup on offer hence the reason why the newer models are known as the R1 & R2.
-
ren·di·tion (ren dis̸h′ən)
noun
a rendering or result of rendering; specif.,
1.☆ a performance or interpretation (of a piece of music, a role, etc.)
2.a translation or version
3.Archaic a surrender, as of a fugitive slave
That's what I always thought R1 and R2 meant. -
The Taiwan store took away the option to the buy the M11x more than a week ago. I hope they update the site with the new R2 or I die... And please with the i7 CPU.
-
6 months from now, the people who are clamoring to sell their current gen M11X will be on the bandwagon to sell the revised edition's.
-
I'll be checking the US store every hour now, lol.
-
isnt it "Revision" ?!
revision [rɪˈvɪʒən]
n
1. the act or process of revising
2. (Social Science / Education) Brit the process of rereading a subject or notes on it, esp in preparation for an examination
3. (Communication Arts / Printing, Lithography & Bookbinding) a corrected or new version of a book, article, etc. -
I wasn't asking what R2 meant. I already know it means revision.
What I was wondering is why everyone is calling it an R2, when there hasn't been an R1 yet. -
Anyone know if the new hardware has a proper (gigabit) LAN port, as opposed to the 100mbps nonsense on my current one?
-
oh...youre right...very smart!
didnt see from that view...
but its the first revision on the origin m11x
good count!
edit: or maybe it's like with movies...if there is a part one then you normally dont call it eg "Rambo PArt 1" you would call it "Rambo" and the second movie would be called "Rambo 2" w/o a Rambo "1"
-
who knows, maybe there was a bunch of beta versions... you know, like B1.2, B1.3. And when they got to a final release it was revision 1.0. Revised from the beta versions.
-
I received my m11x today. However, I might return the system and get the R2. I have exactly 16 days from today to decide if it is worth it..

Nice find guys.
There will likely be a large difference in battery life between the i3/i5 and i7 models since the i7 cannot use Optimus. The i5 looks like the way to go but I will reserve judgment until people start receiving theirs. -
Ahh, so since the i7 can't use optimus, that's why the said it was optional.
-
I agree. I'm considering the i5 or i7. However I am not looking forward to Optimus. It's whatever to me. I rather have more control over switching graphics. Optimus is just an extra thing to go wrong...
-
Can someone tell me when us site updated..
Can't wait -
Yeah, I don't care about Optimus either. I wonder what kind of hit the battery will take with an i7. If I can't get 2 hours out of the battery, then I'm sticking with my C2D.
-
will the i7 still have the option to switch graphics manually?
-
Well, at least for all the dissapointed people, the R1 versions will be cheap now
-
How about R = release
In any event, its R2 for purposes here.
-
According to Engadget we may see it launch tomorrow!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/alienware-m11x-gets-overseas-core-i3-i5-i7-and-nvidia-optimu/ -
Thats weired, why cant the i7's use optimus but the i5 and i3 can? Will this affect batter life atal between the two?
With the new processor what do people think some of the new windows 7 Windows Experience Index scores will come out too? -
Also want to know the answer to this question!
-
As far as I know, i3 and i5 have GPU on CPU die together. On the other hand, i7 does not have an integrated gpu on its CPU die, thus it has to use a chipset video which works the same way the original M11x is designed.
-
True of the 45nm i7 but the 32nm Arrandale i7 does have the IGP...
-
Never heard of that. As far as I know, i3/i5/i7 all have integrated GPU on the die.
-
We'll see how much does this m11x upgrades cost.. I got mine from best buy a week ago. I don't know if it's worth returning or not for an an i3 or i5. If it's the same price, i'll get a refund and just pay the restocking fee and just get the new one once it gets released.
If the price is right. -
If i7 has it, then it can use Optimus. I was under assumption that it doesn't have IGP since i7 m11x doesn't seem to use Optimus.
-
You can switch manually as before I think, in the taskbar. It's just that Optimus supports automatic switching if you want. And as far as I know Optimus will be supported by official Nvidia drivers, which means you don't have to rely on the OEM to provide them (which is a big problem).
So, I don't really see any disadvantages with Optimus other than that it might not perfectly know for what tasks to use the integrated or discrete card. I think that is controlled by a list, basically, buy you can probably edit that profile list by yourself. -
This website should answer a that question, scroll down on the page to the chart. Some have integrated grapics, some don't.

I think we just got to wait until tomorrow for the launch, hopefully all information is delivered by then. Right now we seem to have too many question marks.
-
Which forum users love to have for endless circles of flaming discussion !
-
I agree, it's all about the price.
I have to figure out if it's going to be worth it to go through the hassle of selling my current one. -
I hope the price dosnt go over 1000 for the base model.
but if any one wants to sell me theres with a su4100 pm me. -
Looks like Chaz is fast to update haha:
Dell Updates M11x with Core i3, i5, i7 Processors -
I am also looking forward to the soft-touch option. It was mentioned way back by Darkhan that this was gonna be an option. I really liked the finish on the M17, and if this one has it, I'm gonna pick that also. Hopefully it won't cost $99.
-
Alright, when are we gonna start talking about R3 now ?
-
I think the tech spec saying that NVIDIA Optimus is only available with i3 and i5 is a mistake, because all i7 6xx CPUs have integrated GPUs. Also, the design page says
-
It has an integrated GPU but I think that the GPU switching on the i7 is going to remain manual.
-
IDK, but I'll def be getting it opposed to the R2. I hope it'll have an updated GPU. -
Hmm...should I try to sell my first gen m11x and get a r2 with i7 and such.
-
I'm not surprised I predicted the Core i3 330UM. What is with the concern about a price increase?
-
updated GPU!!! I'm waiting for R3!!! I bet it will have a mat screen and USB 3.0 too!!!
-
Can you please provide more details on this "soft-touch" option?
-
What's the reasoning behind no Optimus for i7? The i7 ULV's have integrated graphics too.
-
Just noticed that the base price for the C2D M11x (R1) in Malaysia was 3499 RM. So the i3 is roughly US$50-60 more.
