I want one of these.

Iphone 4 in 2 weeks and then this... My wallet is gonna be hurting this month

From what it looks right now... R1 owners will not have much need to update this computer, unless they require specific processor-intensive tasks for which the small benefit of a core i7 would help them.
However, for those of us (me!) who have not yet bought an m11x, it seems as if this R2 model might be the better buy. I mean, it all depends on price. If you get even a small increase in performance for even a similar price, buying this one out of the start seems to make more sense. -
I am looking at the i7 one. I am gonna wait to see what people say the battery life is like and if in the end it does have optimus support and, more importantly in my opinion, driver support straight from Nvidia.
If the battery life does not suck and it supports Nvidia release drivers without issue, I'll be selling my current M11x for the new R2.
Otherwise I can wait for a R3. I am stupid happy as it is with my current one. The only reason I would want to upgrade would be for cpu extensive games. Mainly for Starcraft 2's big battles which is coming out soon. -
Also, does the Lunar gray have less fingerprint problems than the black? -
-
I can tell you guys everything you need to know tomorrow. -
I can imagine that. They're the only vendor of a notebook like this one. I'd pay $50 more for the Core i3 version. No word on overclocking on this one? -
-
do you guys think i should return the one i have now and get a core i5 version? i bought it less than a week ago from micro center, so i believe that i can just return it since its within 30 days. to return, yes or no?
-
I know I would.
-
Ill wait for your answer 12:01 AM lol
Thanks!! -
forgive me for what may be a stupid question i just bought a m11x(48 hours ago) i bought it mainly because i am going back to college an di wanted a computer that could play flight simulator X and star trek online but yet light enough i could take it to my classes. since i was on pretty tight budget i wanted the best compromise between cost/power/portability. would the new chip be worth the canceling and ordering a new one or for my needs would the gain be negligible or just a lot more expensive?
-
i should save my m11x r1, and wait for R3 if it has better quality, better lcd hinge. i3 cpu is suck, anyone wants to upgrade, you should buy i5 or i7 cpu.
-
Oh, and does core i7 have optimus support.
oops, one more. For sure no usb 3.0? -
-
If you can wait some, I'd personally just get the R2. Say it gets put up for sale tomorrow, that means it will probably take 3-4 weeks to finally arrive in your hands if it was anything like the original release of R1.
If you can't wait, then the R1 should be fine. -
So the CPU will be weaky still? Sheesh.
-
Hey guys!
It is finally available in Germany too. http://configure2.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=de&cs=dedhs1&kc=NRS15454&l=de&m_30=322839&oc=N00W1X03&rbc=N00W1X03&s=dhs
i7 640um, 4Gb Ram and 320 Gb HDD come for 1340 EUR.
So it would cost roughly 400 EUR more compared to the same specs with C2D SU7300.
Base config with i5 520um, 2Gb Ram and 250 Gb HDD is avaible at 999 EUR. -
Fellas, it's out in the UK as well, and it comes in both flavors!
I series and the old Pentium's.

any word on expresscard slot?
-
having the same dilemma here. I dont know if i should return this to best buy and just wait for the retail R2 to come out. I dont know if there are really any performance changes.
And if there's a big price change, what's stopping you could get to an MSI or an ASUS with a much better CPU and GPU performance for the price that your paying for an i5 and i7 ulv's? -
-
How long do you guys think before best buy has this on sale?
-
-
ugh its still stuck with GT335M? I really want DX11
-
"Integrated Graphics: Yes" -
had a look at it from the uk website - damn the pentium is alongside the i5/i7. and the price shoots up to over 1 grand if i spec my system the same with a core i5.
the chassis looks the same, if there is a huge difference in performance, i'll try and just get the new motherboard instead.
EDIT: just took a look at the order form (not ordering!) and the r2 comes with a 90w power supply. the r1 had a 65w one.
and even though the uk site says "core i7 640UM", it's not clocked at 1.2GHz stock, instead 1.06GHz. that's the speed of the 640UM. -
Whats this new soft touch stealth black colour? Is it truly a new colour, without the anoying gloss finish thats attracts fingerprints like a magnet, or is it just a new name, for the same thing?
-

I want to buy right now but I need to know something 1st....
I check tech/spec why
the color option for Soft Touch - Stealth Black (M11x only for Core i3 and i5) how about i7(why did not included)?
On Customization Features the Laser-Engraved Nameplate: Coming Soon ?what suppose this means?only grave m11x or we can put our name their? like they state before asia pasific can't grave their name on plate.
for video card:
* 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M
* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (5-series) (M11x Core i3 and i5 only)
* Dynamically switchable with NVIDIA Optimus Technology (M11x Core i3 and i5 only)
why only i3 and i5 only? how about i7 ?
or I just have to wait more!!
and I want to know which one better professional or ultimate win7?
anyway the price for i7 okay for me after customize .Right now it's almost same price like m15x around rm 5,634.00 -
man on the malaysian site they offer the 1333 Mhz Ram, in Germany and UK only the 800 Mhz....Why???!!!! :-(
-
It should be available in the Eastern US within the next 2-3 hours at the rate it's becoming available. I wonder how much more the i7 will be compared to the i5...
-
it's about £300 more for the same configuration with an i7 for me. £300 is a big difference for me.
of course, mine is still away at repairs, so fingers crossed dell slip me a core i5 version for my troubles -
The tech spec page on the malaysian website is probably not correct. On the german page you can configure Soft Touch - Stealth Black with i7. Unfortunately the tech spec page isn't updated, but I think optimus & integrated graphics are available for the m11x across all i-series cpus.
In Germany i3 isn't available. -
FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Couldnt they have increased the screen size a bit? damn bezel to big! -
-
The lady told me, she only have the option to choose the 800 Mhz RAM, but she doesn't know if its realy only a 800 Mhz or just an error in the system.
On the German M11x-Site they also stated, that it has the 1333 Mhz RAM...
I will see, when it will arrive -
ouch.. the price is just.. unbelievable.. not as cheap at the M11x(Core 2 Duo)
By the way.. The [email protected] and Turbo [email protected].. Is the turbo boost frequency on both cores? or only single core? im still confused over this Turbo Boost.. -
Wow, not cheap at all.. an extra £300/$435 over what i spent on my M11x. At £1028/$1490 i feel that it'll have to provide a substantial improvement to justify the price. I'd love to see the new benchmark results.
-
Okay guys, look, the UK site still has the R1 available online for 749 pounds, thats 749 British pound sterlings = 1078.1106 US dollars. Converting it makes it seem a lot more expensive than it really is. DON'T WORRY it's not going to be crazy expensive in the states like you think. Why on earth would the R1 go from 799 to 1078 dollars when the new version comes out? (It just won't happen, this is just how much it always cost in the UK)
-
I see that the R2 no longer has standard Bluetooth in Europe. Now need to pay 35€ for a module.
-
i'll go with Eugene91, it has to deliver a substantial performance boost to be worth the mark up. i want to see a minimum of 10 fps increase in the majority of games to make it worth considering
intel's turbo boost works mostly for a single core. it can boost both cores but only by (as far as i know) 133mhz. on the 4 core version it'd either boost 2 cores for a little or boost a single core a lot. i presume on the dual core ones it'll boost just the single core.
i'll wait and see. for one thing, games these days like dual core cpu's, so maybe having a load more cache memory can make up for the speed. though it didn't make a difference between the pentium and the core duo m11x's... -
I can't wait to order this thing when it gets released on the US site. Why didn't they upgrade the graphics too

I've read some comparision benchmarks for the i-core family and the advantages of the i7 UM 640 to the i5 UM 520 were that little, that I had decided not to pay the 200 EUR extra for the i7.
in the tests they stated that the i7 has an increasingly power consumption compared to the i5
and I like to have more battery lifetime, than 1 or 2 extra fps or else...
Thats why I ordered the i5
