It is probably mostly CPU optimization, and just general engine optimization, the game was already pretty good in terms of making good use the GPU.

I am sure it will scale up, but no M11X is going to run it higher than a mix of med high at playable frame rates. The GPU will hold us back, just not enough stream processors and GPU bandwidth to turn effects and shaders up.

Hey guys I just got a really good deal on new M11xR2 i7 with 4gig ram and 250 hd for 925 including tax and shipping. However I'm now debating on canceling my order and getting the envy 14 when it comes out. I play bf2bc and call of duty world at war, modern warfare 2. I'm afraid I wont be able to play these games on high settings after seeing other's post there fps with the new m11xR2 version. Also looks like battery life has been lost alittle and where the envy 14 is 7 hours versus 5. Or if you add the envy slice battery it also adds another 7 hours making it 14. I'm worried about heat issues though on the envy 14 so thats kinda of holding me back. I'm also used to playing on my 24inch dell monitor so going to 11 inchs may seem a bit small. Anyone else in the same situation as me please chime in I need to figure this out before it ships. I just wish the envy 14 was out so I could see the reviews on it.

Go look at the specs. the Envy 14 only has the 5650 which is about the same at the GT 335. I would take the R2 over the Envy 14. Much smaller and a bit lighter. Thats just me. Plus the R2 is cheaper with your config.

Edit** If this your only computer, the Envy 14 might be a better option with its 1600x900 screen option. I already have a 24inch LCD with a power house desktop so this my surf the net and play games on the couch/down-stairs when I do not feel like using my main desktop. For most who are buying the R2, they fall into this category.

Screen size is relative to how close/fary away you are from the screen. If you hold up the laptop the distance u use it from your face with your normal screen behind it you can see how much you gain or lose =)

I also have a 24 inch power house pc and this would also be for just gaming on the go and on the couch ect. Just want to make sure that it will handle the games I will be playing at least 40-60 fps. I mean 11 inch seems so small and 14 ideal and I'm sure once I get done building an envy 14 it will be more like 1200 with the higher rez screen and 4gigs of ram right.

would the m11x be about the same size as the envy 13

An Envy 13 is not an option due to the weak gpu, an ATI 4330 ;)

Bleh if it doesn't update to a different shipping date this week (and stop denying that they are shipping) I will probably cancel and just get the Envy 14...waiting a month for this is just stupid and dell needs to get their priorities in order rather than just sending random orders out.

Edit: I know I'm sounding like a "negative nancy" and I should just "wait for it" but I really hate how dell is handling all of this.

I got a better deal on the phone. I config'd a system and put it in my wish list, then called the 1-800 #. All told, (see my sig for a short list of spec's) M15X for $1642, no tax/shipping. I'm glad I joined the military many moons ago. :D

I used AAFES to order my M11X and ordered it for $900 back in Feb. Normal config price at the time was $1,094. ;)

Amen to that, im calling again today and if something isnt updated by next week then im probably going to pull my order. I cant believe the battery life may end up only being 3 hours. The m11x is losing a lot of things that it originally stood for.

I'm looking at possibly purchasing one of these laptops. Currently I have an Asus EEE PC 1000HE Netbook. Unfortunately for some of the things I like to do and for work, the Atom CPU blows big time. The redeeming factors of the netbook are the size and battery life (This one is advertised at 9.5 hours, definitely does not get that hehe). I was looking for something with a bit more umph behind it, but still had good battery life. So I was looking around Dell's website and found these little gems. Intel IGP + Nvidia and OC'able CPU as well. Battery life seems it is pretty decent when not using for gaming. I was thinking this might be a great choice so that I also have a portable gaming laptop with me most of the time. The HP HDX I have now is a monster 18" laptop that is cumbersome to always have around and battery life sucks horrid on it( I knew that though when getting it). I don't think I could replace the HDX and netbook with this guy go, I use the laptop on my desktop constantly along side of my desktop of which both have 1900 resolutions.

Games I do play right now on the desktop are WoW, Borderlands, and sometimes something from my Steam library which has all Source, ID software, and Unreal games currently out there. I was more or less wondering should I stick with the C2D or got for either the i5 or i7in the M11x? Any of them will be leaps faster than my netbook for sure. I don't overly mind having to carry a power cable with me, I do already with the netbook as I forget to charge it at night. xD

The M11x just seems to give me a lot more options in a small laptop, still decent battery life when doing web stuff and what not for work, and when it is time to play I can switch everything over and hop on WoW or something.

Not sure on the CPU as stated above, but going for 4GB of RAM, probably 500GB hard drive (I will probably replace it myself depending on how much my Dell rep gives me off), BT and the normal stuff. Any thoughts?

Im hoping that they wouldnt have moved to these processors unless the extra money for them yielded a noticiable and tangible result. I do realise that Dell are ultimatley in this for the money. However, they have nothing to gain from ripping off a whole wave of customers and these computers are we must bear in mind designed and specced by like minded 'computer types' liek ourselves.

If it is mainly for gaming, you dont really need the i series, if you want to do other things might as well grab it.

I'd say get the crappy HD and drop a momentus xt 500gb in there, they are 136$ shipped from newegg and faster than what dell offers as their 500gb (I think it's a non XT momentus dell packs in)

You really need to get on top of them about it it took took calls and a lot of pursuasion. Ask questions like "why is my laptop delayed and others arent? what makes mine so special that it needs WEEKS more? Are there back ordered parts? If not can you update my edd status?"

    That should get you going.

As far as benchmarks go, so far the i7 seems to be matching the C2D, so I guess it depends on how CPU intensive your games/applications are.

hahaha, that is a pretty good plan.

I own r1 and r2. If you just want it for gaming and it isnt your main machine, or you dont do any super demanding tasks other than gaming, get the r1. May as well go su4100 as well.

    Games run great on it.

The i7 will be better overall, it IS faster, just not a lot, and it IS more future proof, just not a lot. Basically, if I was getting one today I would probably get the i5 or i7, but it certainly is not a big enough jump for people who already have them to trade in, and if money is really short the C2D versions are 99% as good. However, with coupons and such you can get an i5 for roughly the same price as a C2D, so might as well get that, or get the i7 if you want the max performance.

You can't upgrade, so get what you want now.

I dont think we can go around making statements such as the c2d and the i7 being the same until we see some more benches. An upgrade to the i5 yielded a jump of 1000 3d marks in another thread I think.

I am kind of opinionated here, but Soundblaster stuff is garbage and has been for a few years now. I had a Soundblaster X-Fi with my Studio laptop, and it caused no end of grief with lockups and nonsense.

I've had my M11x hooked up via HDMI, and it rocks the house. Don't waste your cash.
