Wow it gets stranger. I have the same thing. Looks like we're getting a alien-like alienware. Wonder if the Silver covers are mixed like the cosmic black ones are.
Very much feels like Dell screwed over the M11xr2 buyers from outside the US. It's as though they had an excess of cosmic black covers or didn't have enough stealth black ones, so decided to offer cosmic black to everyone else.
But not a big concern for me, I bought a 3-year international warranty with 3-year's Completecover. With the slightly inkling of a problem with the screen, I'll claim warranty and magic: I get a new screen with a stealth black cover.
-
Got the same on my order too haha(I'm in NZ atm). So I called Dell up, and rep told me the Stealth Blacks' and Cosmics' are literally the same, since we aren't offered Soft Touch options here; Stealth ones are only a re-brand of the original.
-
any idea if they'll offer a special edition in the future with a limited edition color (red maybe) or something?
I have no idea if they did it with the R1, just asking -
Ohh thats too bad, so I guess my AW M11x R2, Stealth Black SP, will be just Cosmic ....
-
Anyone who ordered on or around June 10th still have their's "in production"? I called to have my order expedited and the lady said she'd try her best. My edd is still July 8th..
-
I ordered mine June 15th and my edd is still July 8th as well.
-
Ordered 6/13/10 EDD 7/6/10
-
Ordered: 6/19/2010
Est. Delivery Date: 7/13/2010
Will see if it gets updated tomorrow. -
If it's already at "In Production" it won't change until it's ready to ship.
-
Being the cynic here, I doubt the Dell Rep actually knows what they are talking about. I get different answers from Asia-Pac Dell reps all the time. I guess we'll just have to wait until one of us Asia-Pac owners with Cosmic Black actually get the machine to see if we get frankenstein machines.
Personally I expect the machine to come out with a shiney black top cover and a rubbery-black base. I know that M11x's are made in China. As far as I can tell all high-end boutique Dell machines come from China. I know my Adamo XPS came from China. In saying that, I know my Latitude 2100 came from China too. But as long as it works, I'm not fussed. I wouldn't buy this machine if it were based purely on looks.
I did receive my EDD though (updated yesterday, despite the fact that I ordered on 14th June). June 30th. Just came out of production yesterday. -
GeneNz: You are already pretty lucky. I ordered mine on 14th June as well, was promised by the Rep that it will come to me in 2 weeks time. And i just got my 1st EDD yesterday and its at 5th July.. Just got into production like 2 days back or something.
-
Was meant to get the m11x on tuesday but family told dell to deliver on friday
. Oh well, might as well just wait out another 4 days. Hopefully it will end up shipping in stealth black, dont like the idea of mixed colours.
-
Where are you located? It seems that the US tend to get longer delivery times compared to Dell Asia-Pac. It does come from China, and I suppose for whatever reason, it maybe easier and faster to delivery to this part of the world. Funny thing is that my delivery time probably would have been earlier than 30th June (around 25th June), if it weren't for 14-16th June being public holidays in China. It was dumpling festival in China, and the Dell rep informed me that Dell China is closed over the period.
Sure everyone deserves a holiday, including those in China, but I want my damn computer now.
-
Nope, the rep I spoke to was Alex Lee, unlike others, he's actually well renowned here on the forums and I trust his answer; Stealth Blacks are the same as Cosmics. Also, in China, it wasn't "dumpling," it was another traditional food.
-
Let us know how your computer pans out. Will give us an idea of what we're going to get also.
-
Zong Zi, I know
. The Malaysian Rep decided to use the term dumpling, and I reused it on the basis that everyone knows what a dumpling is
I'm Chinese by descent (family from Malaysia - mother from Penang, and yes I've been to the Dell Factory
).
Well in that case we'll see how it goes when we start receiving our M11xR2's. I'm hoping for a consistent colour scheme, but I'm cynical. Would be great if you could let us know what the outcome is. Looks like you'll receive your's before I receive mine. -
Lol... Guess you know zong zi afterall...
Well, on my order confirmation, it states 6/25 but on Dell's status web, it says 7/2 :O. Dell really p's me off at times... -
All Stealth Black M11x R2 are supposed to be Soft Touch, there are no R2 glossy black. Well, that's what I heard from AW themselves.
-
So the Lunar silver ones are also matte rubber?
edit: oops i read wrong. nvm
-
Well, i'm in Singapore. You from Malaysia GeneNZ? I should be getting the computer the same date as you man
-
I'm a New Zealander, but my parents are from Malaysia. So I have a lot of family in Malaysia and will be making a trip over there on my way to UK next week. On my way I'll be picking up the m11xr2
. It's about NZ$1000 cheaper to get it in Malaysia than in NZ, so it was a no brainer. My only problem is that I will have a US-keyboard, and not a UK-keyboard, but I'll survive.
Did you order cosmic black or lunar silver? -
Well, you've heard from the US-European region then...
-
I'm inclined to agree and say that all stealth black's are rubbery. It doesn't make sense for there to be a soft-touch stealth black and a non-soft-touch stealth black. Especially if they all come from the same factory in China. I'm not doubting the reliability of the Dell rep, I'm just using common sense. If what the Dell rep says is true, then they must have renamed cosmic black to stealth black, which is pointless and confusing. For the buyer and Dell themselves.
Hence my skepticism that cosmic black is the same as stealth black, especially as it quite clearly differentiates stealth black base and cosmic black top on the order. Besides, I don't see why they couldn't mix the two colour types either, since I assume the R1 and R2 screens and connectors are identical.
But it's really a moot point. Until one of the buyers with this combination actually gets their machine, we won't find out. As I have said I would prefer a completely stealth black combination, but I know Dell, and I know they don't really care about minor details like that, so I wouldn't put it past them to mix in strange combinations of colours. As long as they get paid and dispatch the goods right? -
I'm from Dallas Texas, and the details for my order are as follows-
Order Date: 6/9/10
Order Status: Shipped
Shipped Date: 6/15/10
EDD: 6/17/10
M11XR2 Souft touch stealth black
i7 640UM
4GB DDR3
160GB SATAII
Called FedEx last week, they said that they never received a package from Dell.
Called Dell, they said that the package was ready to be shipped but waiting for pick-up. *I received this response once on the 14th and then again last saturday on the 19th. They said to call them today to see if they can reach manufacturer.
So anyone who has received their m11xr2 yet is lucky because I placed my order on the second day it was available. -
I just got my m11x r2 today
Loving it so far ^^
-
Has anyone done any battery testing? Max with just browsing and low brightness. Min when gaming.
-
It is "In Production" according to the site. Guess I have a wait ahead of me.
-
does someone know how long it will normally take from production to sending status??
Mine is also in production...edd 7.7., ordered june 9th -
Compared to an out of the box Dell Studio (1558) w/i5 the m11xR1 is just as quick in nearly every way except for encoding video. Games obviously the m11x wins out. In fact I find the Studio sluggish by default until turning off that "dock".
Either way though my point is if you do something that can use the processor then there can be a BIG jump in performance. Closer to 50%! Those without will have to be more mindful of the applications they use if wanting best perf as that can make all the diff.

My R1 arrived in about a month's time. I ordered it in mid Feb and I got it just before mid March.
Now my recently placed order for an M15X is arriving earlier than originally estimated. (Instead of Jun 29th it's already shipped and will be here on the 24th.
-
has someone posted any benchmarks for the new i5 or i7 cpus yet?
-
Seriously, how about you look before you post.

It's only been on the front page for a few weeks, give him a break
-
Ok, my EDD just got updated just now to 28th June. Was actually 5th July.
It was in production for about 4 days or so, but once it comes out of production. the EDD changes. Also, Dell USUALLY will get those things to you before the EDD date. I once got my stuff 5 days before the EDD.
-
@mb67: Thanx.......
-
WOOO! i just got my r2!!! just played some portal and it runs AWESOME!
-
Are there any Canadians out there that have received their M11xR2 yet?
I ordered my i5 on June 10 with an EDD of July 12. It was listed as "In Production" the day I ordered it and has not changed. I don't mind waiting, but I am worried about it getting back ordered or something. I cannot tell from these forums if ANY Canadian has received an R2 yet?
Thanks!
Stain -

Does it indeed just have a 10/100 (FastE) port or does it have 10/100/1000 Gigabit port?
Thx -
It's a 10/100. The manual is wrong.

@Dallas guys... keep me in the loop if you want to run R1 vs R2 benchmarks. If I can get some time away from the house and job we can hook up...

My oder was delayed, new EDD 07/22 to 07/29. I says that the order was modified and thats the new EDD from the new order.
I cant talk to them, I just got appendicitis and im still on the hospital, I will talk to them latter. -
For NZ and Aussie guys:
Stealth Black versions for us come as Soft Touch. -
New EDD - 6/30/2010 (updated) - Ordered 6/13/2010
-
Have you received your M11xR2? Any clue if the cosmic black is identical to the stealth black?
Mine is already delivered, except I'm not going to be picking it up until 1st July. So I can't yet find out. -
Yeah, the stealth black=soft touch lid. The Cosmic=metal bottom, same as before, and the same as what the US customers are receiving. Basically, there is no difference between ours and the ones sold in the US. Hope I helped.
-
Woot! Just got an email back from dell. My order has been expedited and will be shipped out in 3-5 business days.
