1st off, does anyone know if running the Nvidia GPU would help with video editing things, like rendering a video or interface lag while video editing?

2nd of all does anyone have any idea how to get Sony Vegas Pro (video editing program) to be run with Nvidia? I've tried adding to the whitelist and right clicking Sony Vegas to be started with Nvidia.

However it never says that Nvidia is running while I video edit.

Hey dude, you are using the Viewer to check whether it's running, right?

To be really sure that the video editing program will use the Nvidia card, try to right-click on the shortcut and run the program with the "High-performance graphics processor." Some of my programs don't run with the Nvidia GPU even when whitelisted, so I'm forced to do that.

so is there a fix for the Punkbuster and optimus issue yet??

I'm trying to get Battlefield Heroes working.. Game doesn't work cause I always get kicked within 1 minute.. says im running multiple direct3d DDL files..

i got the newest drivers that dell has on their site.. version: 257.30,A01
I messaged nvidia and they said even though its better to have the Dell version drivers they told me to install the newer drivers they have on their site..

just wondering if anyone has done this? the new versions on their site is "version 258.96 WHQL" hopefully upgrade to this will fix my issue

if I upgrade to this do I also need to upgrade the Intel HD Graphics card too??

    cheers!

No fix yet. If there is ever going to be a fix it will have to come from nvidia since Evenbalance has zero motivation to do so themselves.

I'm really starting to hate optimus. Soo much headach .. I come to the conclusion .. I just dont understand it. Its not bad .. It's my ignorance.

SIGH I really am ready to send the i5 m11x back for a core 2 duo.

When I'm running 3DMark06 I believe my issues is optimus. It runs proxicon and gives me an error after.. This is after i change resolution.. I just dont know im fed up.

    Rant over.

on a professional note, I am not enjoying this laptop.
I spent so much $ on it.. and 80 gig SSD intel.

    I can't run 3dmark 06 that i even paid for ?!

Right clicked .. got nvidia graphics properties.. did the start edmark 06 with nvidia.. ( was that way already) even made it use global settings. still an error.

I have dedicated my life here to a great laptop.. getting sleave.. cooler.. LED monitor.. SSD.. searched for months on stuff.. and I simply cant run 3DMark06.

I did my thermal grease.. changed the eyes of the lid alienhead. ( soon to post )
    nothing more to say.

I however, am a master at LED monitors.

well what games are you trying to play, there are some drivers out there that work with Punkbuster, but they are rubbish at other things.

look on the forum for the modded drivers thread, then drivers 188.79 and .88

Yes, it closes itself in the initial loading, to load the menu of the game, the valve logos show just fine...

Weird thing, if I try to play it with the integrated card, is the same, I guess is the game, but i don´t want to download again the game, is HUGE... :(

Crysis demo, Metro 2033 demo, L4D, Portal, KOTOR, all work perfect with the NVidia....

Bro, you playing steam version? If yes, try to right click the game, select properties, then Local Files > verify integrity of game cahce.
If something found missing, it will just need to download tat specific file and viola, enjoy the game.

OMG, thanks, that was the problem, now runs perfect, and actually, since I did a few moves, I started to play it with the integrated card, and works very well, some mix of mediums and highs, then I change it to NVidia and was WAY better...

    Again thx... :D

How did you guys get 3DMark06 to run on the Nvidia graphics card? My shortcut is set to use Nvidia graphics, but my 3DMark results still show the GPU as "Intel HD Graphics."

Sadly, the new drivers won't resolve the majority's problem, which is of Punkbuster kicking everyone with the 258.96 set. The Nvidia blog says the Optimus fix should make it in time for the 265.xx drivers to be released in November.

Check the comments in: The NVIDIA Blog - Introducing the First Release 260 WHQL-Certified Driver

These 260.99 drivers should run Final Fantasy and F1 better, but instead of driver sweeping and all that work, I'd rather wait for the November drivers.

I had the same issue. I just manually added the generals.exe application (non others are needed).

For some reason, the worldbuilder application is picked up as warhammer :p

Did your game run fine with the GPU after adding generals.exe? Mine still does not work. I selected High performance NVIDIA for generals.exe of course.

I used the Intel IGP :p [until the final challenge vs the Tigress :D] and the nVidia GPU on the last challenge mission. I don't think I have played generals since (annoying Alienware OSD issue I have makes it *not* fun to play).

Here's a problem I'm having... I got tired of not being able to play BFBC2 so I went back to the 189.88 drivers, but now the nvidia control panel will not let me whitelist BFBC2. If I try to set the nvidia gpu as default for it, the "apply" button disappears, and it reappears when I select integrated for default. So when I start the game it runs like crap because it uses the integrated graphics.

Same here dude, I'm using 189.88 and I can't whitelist BFBC2. You gotta do the manual thing every time you start up the game.

Basically, do the right click and run it with the Nvidia GPU.

That option can be made available in the Nvidia Control Panel, under "View." Check "Add run with graphics processor option to context menu."

Red alert 3 Uprising also facing same problem. Whitelisted it with 335m and still picking integrated graphic only...

The only way is to set the global setting to 335m, too in order to let it pick.

Allright, those games also use "game.dat" as the main executeable, and RA3.exe/generals.exe as a launcher/wrapper.

    Try whitelisting game.dat, instead :)

Could you confirm you have an R2? If so, that would be awesome news, since the 260.99 drivers don't work with DoW2/chaos rising. Maybe we could finally solve this issue.

    Roxxer et al,
Sorry I do get this problem on the R2. I orginally played DoW on the R1, but just testing the setup you have problems with it doesn't save the config either.

    Apologies for the confusion.

Incidentally, I upgraded to 260.99 and it seemed like Optimus stopped accepting my overrides. Something as simple as Minecraft.exe wouldn't start the nVidia GPU even with it Whitelisted.

I reverted to 257.30 and it works perfectly. Guess I'll stick with these for now unless someone has an idea of why it might not be working?

I have a M11XR2. I am trying to run Call of Duty 4 from Steam. Whenever I try to launch the singleplayer, I only get a black screen instead of the InfinityWard intro. I have added Call of Duty 4 to the Optimus list for the Nvidia GPU. I can run other games fine such as Half Life 2, Mass Effect, and Fallout 3. I have installed the latest DirectX and my Nvidia driver is 260.99. Any suggestions?

Running with 260.99 (on an R2), Just Cause2 and others working, but I cant seem to get the Nvidia card to fire up with Photoshop or other graphic software, the nvidia GPU activity is always at idle.. even with white listed..

Also, Anyone know if there is a DLL that is started up when you run the Nvidia Card? thinking it would be pretty slick to create an event in the alienFX so the speaker lights came on with the nvidia GPU active...

Got Photoshop to work with the "Right Click" run with video card option on the 260.99 drivers, looks like just a little glitchy still with the interface, but got it to successfully show up in the GPU Activity monitor

I uninstalled McAfee the first day I got my laptop. I'm using Avast antivirus+Malwarebytes anti-malware. Works pretty smooth for me and don't use up much of the system process. I think MSE is good from what I read, but never tried it.

I come from the Lenovo forums with a Nvidia NVS 3100m with the newest Optimus drivers 260.99 and there seems to be a ton of problems.

I can't whitelist a lot of programs. Even iTunes can't use the Nvidia GPU and the visualizer lags severely.

HoN just crashes and doesn't even load. This is for sure a GPU problem since when I force it to run with integrated it runs fine, just with crappy graphics.

    this Optimus business is BS.

EDIT: So I went into my Thinkpad BIOS (dont' know what your bios's are like) but I just chose the discrete graphics option and ALL my problems were fixed. HoN runs, and iTunes visualization is crisp and fast. That Optimus driver was just holding back the card so much.

I refuse to install anything other than Dell released drivers but they haven't updated since mid July even though nvidia's have since. What are they waiting on. I am tired of talking to India and not getting anywhere. MOst of the games I have work but it has tainted my new laptop somewhat. Oh an MS AV works great..

Why? The vast majority of R2 owners here have long since moved beyond the Dell drivers. One of the key advantages of the R2 is that you /don't/ have to wait for the long process that Dell or any other OEM has to go through in order to certify drivers. What is it that you think you're avoiding by sticking to Dell drivers?

I shouldn't have to run driver cleaner etc on a laptop I paid £1450 for, personally I don't play that many games on the laptop only really Starcraft 2 and the odd Steam game, apart from Company of Heroes they all work so I just can't be 'd taking the chance of screwing something up. Glad this forum exists though
