Alright I installed this new driver and everything went fine, but I tried playing Portal and when I move the camera really fast or a quick action happens on screen (such as when going up the elevator after completing a level the screen shakes) there is a weird jitter or stutter effect in the picture. Is this normal? It is pretty noticeable too..

I tried installing the new 258.96 drivers by following the procedure state on the first post. The install seem to go through fine (recognized the card, optimus kicks on when running vids. However, I can't make any of the steam games run on the GPU. I rebooted a couple of times and tried adding the games manually, but nothing worked.

Eventually, I reverted back to the Dell Beta drivers and everything is working like before. Not sure what makes my install different from everyone here on this thread. Anyone else experiencing this?

can u give example of a few games? i dont have a lot from steam. however games like guild wars, me2, l4d2 all work automatically. also for l4d2 when launch the game it actually shows that it see the gt335m rather than the intel. the only 2 games that does not work automatically for me are killing floor and splinter cell conviction. but i just need to go into nvidial control panel. Then goto Manage 3d Setting > Programs Setting. I uncheck show only program found on computer. then click into the list of apps and look for killing floor. found it and notice that the default set was intergrated graphics, change that to nvidia and hit apply. did the same for splinter cell conviction as seems the default set was also integrated then hit apply. then I click on global settings and click on manage updates click on update waited a few seconds close that taband everything else and try those 2 games again. now they are running on nvidia rather than integrated. there isnt any issue at all

sorry did not try portal. how about other games?

Update : Ok I just tried portal there is no weird "shutter"effect"when I move the screen real fast. Also when completing a level going into the elevator then the elevator is going up it the screen shakes and thats normal but I dont see any jittering unless you consider that shake on screen is jittering which is from the game? dont quite get your issue here. anyway my settings are all max out even. 16qxmsaa and 16x ani everything else at highest and high

    Hi Kopicha,

I tried L4D2, COD2, COD4, BioShock2. None of them worked. L4D2 still see it as intel like before. I tried adding them manually through Manage 3d settings and change it nvidia from integrated. It just weird.

I haven't tried the manage updates yet, so I'll give it another try this weekend.

No what I meant was when the screen does shake while going in the elevator it doesn't look smooth at all. The textures on the walls and such look jagged but only when a fast jerk happens. If the camera is still everything looks fine. All my settings are at high as well.

You have to set your PhysX in the Nvidia control panel from Automatic to the GT 335m dedicated to get Steam games to work.

    That should fix your problem.

I run all my games though Steam including every title you mentioned and they all play spectacularly with these drivers

PhysX on my system is set to automatic and I don't have to do that for any of my steam games. They're all working fine.

    Bioshock 1/2
    Portal
The Witcher (which is crashing frequently for unrelated reasons)
    Mass Effect 1/2

The drop down list of apps to use the Gcard still doesnt save the .exe. One of all my games (Alien Breed) gets saved after adding them. Also this new driver was 300 points lower on my 3dmark06 score. Although i was able to OC my card now in crysis were i wasnt able to before.
I will test out more games for performance tonight.

Tried that, no luck. I'm not sure why it's doing this. Even when just playing the game without attempting to recreate the problem by moving the camera, if an object moves really fast onscreen it still doesn't look good. Any other ideas? If I want to revert to the stock drivers I had, how would I go about doing that?

I'm sure I've seen how to do this but forum searches aren't helping me today. How I can delete a program from the Optimus database, or alternatively convince the nVidia driver that the program is actually installed?

The program I want is listed if I uncheck the "Show only programs found on this computer" checkbox, and I can't add it manually but Optimus isn't kicking in when I run it.

    Any suggestions?

well i tried this and they work great , the dell beta or whatever gave me horrible performance in Medal of honor. these 258 drivers did show a large loss in 3dmark , HOWEVER , all of my games have improved :). give them a try.

it doesnt matter mate. let me give you an example. i have splinter cell conviction steam version. when show only programs fouind on this computer is checked it doesnt show that it know the game existed. even when i tried to add myself after closing the control panel then launch it again it will go missing. now i uncheck the show only box go to splinter cell conviction and i see that the default for gfx card use is intel and indeed when i launch the game it doesnt detect my nvidia. so i just change it to nvidia apply it. close the control panel. launch the game again immediately its running on nvidia.

so in short even if it doesnt show that you have the game thou you do, just uncheck the box. look for the game then set the gfx default renderer it will still trigger.

when i am away what i do is get rid of overclock on CPU, GPU and Turbo boost disabled. I just started messing around with Powermizer but on my last trip flying i was getting around 5 hours and probably 4 hours with some gaming involved and brightness on low, wifi off, Balanced setting on gaming and Power saver on Word (working on resume). I am pretty happy with this laptop my first alienware and pretty nice. I have a m15x i3 330m (lolz) on the way so i am gonna start hacking at that plan to throw a i7-720qm and OC CPU and GPU is ati 5850 1gb ddr5 which will be flashed to 5870 and already has 6gb ram ddr3.

Think these drivers just went official. Same version number to the candidate so i assume there is no change?

    FYI: NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

Edit: In answer to my own question :p there doesn't seem to be. But still went ahead and installed them.

    Added to the original INF:
    Code:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0CAF.01% = Section050, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CAF&SUBSYS_04651028 ;M11xR2
    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.0CAF.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M"
Per Nautis instructions and everyting seems fine ;)

Am I missing something? If a game does "not work" are you guys referring to it not utilizing the Nvidia GPU? In that case, you can add it to the list of which programs optimus uses the Nvidia GPU for..
