Hey DR650SE, I got 6942 last night on 3dmark06, su4100. I went to far on my gpu with the next run, I jumped WAY up and it caused errors and then i had to reboot. I may try to break 7k today some time... Just so we can say a 4100 did it. I am pretty sure I can do it. Here are the settings that caused overflow (proc 620, ram 900, 1350). Best Wishes, StevenX

NOTE: 3dmark06 score 6942 was stable playing COD MW2 online so it is ok...

Nice, your getting close. Be sure to try and shut off any services that are not needed to run the benchmark in the "Services" panel. Just type "Services" into the start menu. You can stop them. Also your Shaders can go up to about 1400 at least I think. I bench mine between 1460-1500. Also make sure to turn off anything not needed in the BIOS. Look at some of the clocks on the top scores, should give you and idea of where you can set the clocks. Good luck, it'd be awesome to have an SU4100 in the top scores.

Could someone explain if there is a difference in setting the MAX performance in Alien Command Center vs. the Windows Power Options?

    Pros?
    Con?

    Are they both the same?

    Thanks!

beomsu21 - I have asked the same thing and I still dont have a definitive answer. If it's up to me I say remove the alienware stuff, work through the OS... I can say this for FACT. I have everything and I mean everything set to performance (both os and aw). I have now optimized the notebook with some software i found "bills affinity" program and running games on high priority. Makes a HUGE difference. I also use Gamebooster. Example Game (Just Cause 2, retail purchase). Three benchmarks included with game. City #3 is the toughest. With only cpu oc I got around 17fps. Run Gamebooster and I get around 19fps. Run bills affinity and game on high and now 23fps. OC the gpu around 10-15 percent and I am now at 27fps with details on mix of low/med/high with shadows and ssao enabled. (no bokah filter). Optimization makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE. I can't stress this enough. Any load you can take of the processor will improve performance.
    Have fun,
    StevenX

Speaking of benchmarks.. DR605SE.. I can't break 7k yet. I can get to 6970s.. that is it. I am not going to disable stuff in bios to break it. If I can't play a game stable at the settings than I wont count it. (That is just me).
So.. for the record.. 6972 I believe is my best run. SU4100... signing off for now.. :)

M11xx, Nice score! How was stability at those clocks and what kinda of cooling were you using? Now I might have some incentive to bench more :D

stability was fine, didn't really have any special cooling other than a couple of coke zero bottles out of my fridge placed right by the fan :p

vantage score isn't maxed out yet though, I was just calling it a night at 4:30am but will continue to work on it once someone beats the current one.

Can someone help me with overclocking the GPU, well just maybe some info to see if its something I want to do.

Will I get noticeable performance gains?
What settings are the most stable and best for a newbie like me (well new to OC'ing a GPU)?
What are the side effects of the OC? Heat, battery life, GPU life?

    yes

stock settings - everything else you'll have to play arround with, increase by 10% or so and see what happens..

All of those besides GPU life, unless it's running ~90°+

as far as fps? it's fine. seems about just the average. not super silky, but not choppy either.

as far as stuff popping up, it's having stuff pop up or have it get choppy real fast. i am running view and detail distance higher now.. like 5-10ish. :D

imo it seems fine, but i don't have anything to compare it to (ie, higher octane gaming rig or even console). To me, it seems nice enough at the specs of the first bench i posted. much higher settings and it stutters, any lower it isn't as attractive.

I'll see about a screenie of gameplay just to show what it looks like. :D

Edit: here's one screenie. Not sure what's with the fps. it seems alot better... but i'm sure having a few programs in the bg doesnt help. :D pic

When I'm running the benchmark I have it sitting directly on an airconditioner at full blast and as cold as it can get, to get it to complete a run without crashing the display drivers. It takes several runs sometimes to get it to complete the test. I've hit 7129 several times maybe 4-5 times, and havn't gotten a point over. I quite after a while. Lastnight after flashing A03, I hit 7118 on my second run, but quite after that. But to keep it stable, keep it as cold as possible. Also you need to shut down as many services and processes as possible. I shut down every service I can so that only ones running are the ones that are neccessary for the run.

Sounds weird. I'm overclocking to have smooth fps, not just to run some 3dmark and pray it won't crash.

Can you name me stable clock which works in most of your games? Or you aren't overclocking while playing?

Does anyone here play SC2 on their m11x? Can you comment on how it performs on HIGH or ULTRA settings while playing on battlenet? Is there any lag experienced, or low frames, etc? I know that the 335M wont have a problem producing ULTRA images, but will the CPU handle it well during online matches with lots of units? I'm reconsidering the m11x again, cuz I like its size and battery life.

    Thanks

Bah! $130? That bare drive is $20 cheaper then the retail price would be. I am tempted to buy that and compare how it stacks against the Intel x25-m 160gb g2 SSD.

Hmm. Seems tomshardware reviewed it and said that they lost 50 mins of battery life vs a Seagate 7200.4 HDD. That's huge.

So the choice boils down to SSD for fastest performance, no heat output, low power usage, and a savings in battery life (negatives being cost and storage space) or this XT hybrid for huge cost savings, large storage space, and speed that is faster then any HDD but almost to the speeds of SSD (negatives being power usage).

I'll wait to see what others say on the power usage of the drive before I consider buying one now.

hmm. 50 mins is alot. your right. but for me, the price kills it. i cant afford ssd drives cause they're too expensive and they dont have enough space. i think this will cater to alot of people with desktop replacement laptops as those laptops are almost always plugged in anyways. but for us m11x mobile users. i might be willing to sacrifice 50 mins. depends on how much of a performance boost it gives me from the regular 7200rpm drive though, faster performance = more work done = less time needed for battery XD haha

Guys, after bad gpu overclock, driver applies failsafe clocks, something about 400/300/800 or something like it, and no way to change them, have to restart pc. Any way to make it easier?

Wanna overclock gpu and play crysis, but even 550/900/1400 crashes driver...

Maybe i should use some other overclock utility?
