Here are the images I promised to all looking for the Lunar Silver. The finish is amazing and the build quality is spot on. Dell has once again impressed me with their product.
If there would be even one item that caught my eye, its that the left front vent LED is not as bright as the right. Though not significant or worth any action.
Enjoy the images...

Funny my right is not as bright as the left LOL! It's not even noticeable half the time though. Congrats on the lappy though!

@litelearner = I think they invented embedded thumbnails for a reason right? Like for my poor hurting scroll wheel abused finger, right?
Congrats on getting yours btw

Just got my M11X today and just turned it on. I went to youtube and tested a HD 1080P video on the Intel graphics and it plays without a problem. I'm shocked I thought I would have to switch to the 335 to play HD video. Granted the processor (OCed 1.73Ghz) was running at about 85-95%. So far I love this little laptop. Its just a little smaller and about a 1 lb lighter then my XPS M1210.
-
Again congrats and enjoy this little powerhouse!
Updated my Newegg order;
Razer Orochi Notebook Mouse
Cirago Micro Bluetooth Dongle
4 GB 1600mhz Kingston HyperX
Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 for the loving wife
Going to be a fun weekend. -
Is it worth getting new sticks of 2x2gb ram? Or did you get that beast mode ram for your other rig villosa? I don't quite understand any of the latency stuff and all that other jargon.
-
Nah I got it for the M11x. I don't know, it's fun to upgrade stock parts in case of future happenings (CPU overclocks etc). I don't recommend it though, most people are happy with the stock ram.
-
Everyone talks about gaming, but no one says anything about multi tasking. I've got a megavideo playing along with 2 browsers open, multiple tabs in each along with OneNote open. How would it the m11x do with that?
-
I do that all the time except it's 1080p movie, aim, and firefox with about 4 tabs. Handles all without a hitch. The system is only slow when I'm installing a game and the ram usage goes to like 90%, CPU hardly gets overworked.
-
Has anyone tried gaming on the OS installed with the m11x and then did a fresh install to compare the difference? My team fortress 2 is still not running as well as I think it should even with an overclocked cpu and multi-core support turned on. Could it be the video drivers that dell installed? I see you guys mentioning dox drivers, are those way better?

Having WIFI issues. I have an Apple Extreme Router. Have other computers that connect fine.
m11X starts at 54 mps then drops to 5.5. No where near N class speeds. Can anyone shed some light on this? -

Also like a few of you said, the point of getting 1333 or 1600 is in order to allow yourself to see how far you can OC. If your cpu craps out at 10mhz above 1.73 then of course its a waste of effort, but you wont know if you can hit 2ghz or more until you buy 1333 or higher guaranteed ram in order to make sure the ram isnt what's failing at a higher overclock.
So far I believe there is a problem with setfsb on the m11x, that it just plain doesnt work yet, so we'll have to wait for a fix or someone will have to create one themselves before we start to see how high these things can go. I can't wait. -
This thing is fast. I have the SU7300 OC (1.73Ghz), 4GB ram and 500GB 7200RPM HD. Love everything about this laptop except the fan issue (comes on every minute or so).
Little comparison for you of the Windows Experience score from my desktop and the M11x.
Desktop Intel Quad Core 9650 at 3.8Ghz, 4GB Ram, 650GB 7200 HD, Nvidia 8800 GT.
Processor: 7.5
Memory: 7.5
Graphics 6.9
Gaming Graphics: 6.9
Hard disk: 5.9
M11x CPU OCed 1.73Ghz
Processor: 4.6
Memory: 5.4
Graphics 6.5
Gaming Graphics: 6.5
Hard disk: 5.9
That shows you the M11x really is a netbook size desktop replacement. -

i.e: When I'm upstairs with the router downstairs, I constantly lose connection to my linksys dual-band dual-access point router that has both a 5ghz AP and a 2.4ghz AP if I attempt to use the 5ghz AP. Switching to the 2.4ghz AP solves this immediately. YMMV with the airport extreme, as i mentioned.
I should mention I have absolutely zero problems with my card, which is fortunate since I have about 10 replacement mini-pcie cards ready to go to bat but this is my only half-mini-pcie I've come across. -

scupking, I somewhat disagree with the desktop replacement comment, but believe me I feel your enthusiasm! The CPU is a downer sometimes but sheesh, even the worst game performance is more than playable (bfbc2)! Logged many hours on my m11x so far and loving every minute of it!
Note I even have the su4100 as opposed to 7300. -
. My only issue is the fan comes on (full blast)
every minute or so and it is very annoying almost to the point of wanting to return it
.
-
Wait till they refresh the processor line. That would be the real icing on the cake.
-
-
I'm giving mine to my brother. And then I shall work part time until I have enough to buy R2 lol.

yeah there's something wonky with the fan, it's probably just an immature bios considering the thing was just released.
-
How does the processor handle having multiple programs open at once? i.e. itunes playing music while surfing with multiple tabs? Are the transitions fluid from one program to another? I'm debating whether or not to purchase it, so any help would be fantastic!

I am going to do a fresh OS install on my m11x. I am going to use the drivers on the dell support site, are there any drivers I should use out there instead of some of these dell ones?
-
@skull = Had l4d in the background while 5 tabs were open in chrome with adobe reader open as well. Zero lag. Good enough for you?
-
@nuke737 ah HA! That is good enough for me! I would be doing similar things like that as well. Even playing movies while surfing too. I'm relieved to know the CPU is up to intense multi-tasking. Thanks
-
-
Just got the thing, and so far, I'm pretty impressed.
-
-
-
Yes you are right, I was saying if the system can handle it. The stock ram won't be able to due to it being highest at 1066mhz but if replaced with 1600mhz ram, we have endless possibilities to OC it. Still there are many factors to consider when OCing a laptop with little to no bios OC features so we'll see.
-
Okay, dummy question but how do you overclock the CPU in this machine?
-
Reboot and press F2 when you see the Alien head and the load bar. You have to be quick about it. Then, I forgot under what tab but it's the one where you can disable SpeedStep. All you do is enable OC, save, reboot, and you're done!
-
Under Advanced. Stupid charging disable option resets everytime you boot in battery.
-

-
What made you want to buy 2?
And I seriously need an ODD. I have Crysis and a few other games sitting here, but I can't play them because I don't have a disk drive! -
me and my mate to play co-op !!
yea luckly i had an external drive -
Hi,
Just wondering whether the little mark above the left eye of the alien on/off button should be there, does everyone have a mark?
Thanks -
how long is the alienware tactx headset cable?
-
-
guys, how do I dim the lights on the AlienFX software for the KB Keys, the Alienware logo and the front lights so it's not so bright? Is there an option to do this? I didn't see one in the Command Center... maybe I missed that
-
-
-
that's great guys thanks... it can be kind of bright at night with all those things lit up full blast like that. Can I set different dim levels or is it just one overall setting that dims it all the way down?
Was also wondering if you guys updated the BIOS with those drivers on the Dell site... is that necessary? It says it will flash my ROM and I'm not sure if there is any benefit to doing it... -
you dont need to flash the BIOS as it ships with A01 -
First time bluetooth user here. Boy does it take up battery life. It's 6hrs with bluetooth and 8hrs without.
-
-
Hey all, first time poster here. Been having a slight issue with my m11x that I wanted to see if anyone here could help with.
I bought a bluetooth keyboard and mouse set (logitech MX5500) and use an outside display. My plan was to just keep the m11x closed on my desk to keep the dust out and preserve the screen. Problem is I can't get the computer to wake from sleep mode using the bluetooth equipment. I assume sleep mode shuts down the bluetooth receiver on the computer. Anyone know a work around for this?
Not that its a huge deal to open it up and press the power button instead. Was just hoping to keep it all closed all the time.
