I have Arkham Asylum installed on the M11x and it's running great. I didn't do anything special but when I installed Gears of War (also runs on UE3), I had to fiddle with a whole bunch of compatibility settings to get it to run. I suggest you update your Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable to 2008 x64 AND x86. I also have Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 installed as well as the latest Games for Windows - LIVE and Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable.

If it still doesn't work after updating all that then I'd suggest a reinstall.

By any chance did you install with your 335m or with the IGP? I know IGP won't let me install the game cause it didn't meet requirements but I forgot if there was an option to install anyway. I just canceled and switched to the 335m. Then updated to 1.2 and it ran great.

    Hope this helps some.

While playing BC2, the game crashed while reloading from a checkpoint. I got this momentary load screen then a blindingly white screen. Is it just me, or has someone else gotten that too?

Are you running an OCed GPU at all or the Dox drivers? Other than that I can't think of anything at the moment.

So are you crashing out to desktop while loading from a checkpoint? What clocks are you running and have you tried running at stock?

    EDIT: Is this happening frequently?

@villosa = Happens when I die and the game kicks in to reload a checkpoint. Running the bios overclock and have not tried it on stocks. Might try a few more times to be sure it wasn't something in the background, but its midnite now zzz. lol

Bad if you're overclocked. :D Otherwise shouldn't be a problem. But... Are you planning to break the 12 hour mark or something?

@ nuke, I was talking about the GPU overclock; I guessed it could be an unstable overclock causing glitches, but after reading what you said, I think it might be a bad install. If you get a chance you can back up your save and reinstall and see if that helps any.

I'm curious - I was just reading over a post in the problem thread where one owner had the right speaker LEDs were dimmer than the left? Is this being seen on a large scale? The keyboard lights having some dim areas (around the space bar) seems to be typical - for example, the bottom of my M17x space bar is dimmer than the top. Now if the right speaker LEDs are dimmer than the left for many owners - well, thats a bad thing.

    Show of hands?

My hand is semi-up lol. My right is slightly dimmer but honestly it's only ever so slightly. I usually leave the speaker lights off though.

Hmmm sorry about the low quality of the pictures (taken by my phone nokia e71) I don't have a high quality camera. The pictures don't do it justice, it's really a lot brighter.

Sorry, kinda small. Notice the 3 areas I circled in one of your pictures. those are the 'dim' areas in almost everyone's keyboard. Mine has it in a fully lit room but, like yours, is hardly noticeable in the dark.

EDIT: Thanks for the pictures btw. I'm not trying to argue a point, I just don't want people to have a misunderstanding and start taking about defective/poorly lit keyboards vs fully lit non-defective ones.

Actually BatBoy, now that you mention it, the right one is a hair darker. Barely noticable at all. Doesn't really show up well in pics. Best I could do is this. It was more noticable in the pics with red. Still not sure if you can tell. I think it might just be a design flaw. Doesn't really bother me. Oh, and it's mostly on the right side if the right speaker.

What is really dim and I think Alienware can improve on is the lighting for the CAPS lock and Wireless. They are barely noticable unless your in a totally dark room

Got mine today from my brother in law visiting from the UK.

He took delivery around 2 weeks ago.

Swapped out the HDD for my OCZ Vertex SSD and build quality is fantastic.

Alas - I got a poor sample of the 7300 CPU - won't overclock at all.

Tried both RAM sticks (one in one out) to see if it was a bad stick. Still BSOD's at the Alien logon screen before it even gets to Windows 7 desktop.

Funny though - boots into safe mode overclocked just fine.

Am hoping bios revision fixes this problem ....

Might well be - going to perform a fresh install of Win 7.

Cloned the SSD from the HDD and both drives BSOD on bootup into splash screen.

    Hoping for the best. lol.

    Fail.

BSOD's during reinstall of Windows 7 .... doesn't even get to splash install screen. Memory dump BSOD.

So what you guys reckon - bad ram maybe ? Worth giving a set of Kinston HyperX a shout ? Will post more detail in the problems thread. I've gone from owner to unhappy owner in less than 4 hours.

Downloaded the Maintenance manual for my Lenovo T400 - it has exactly the same samung DDRIII RAM as the M11x.

Swapped 'em out and tried again. No change.

CPU will need extra volts if it is to be overclocked.

Hoping a later bios will sort this out. Probably going to keep it.

Hey guys I am on the Dell 188.55 drivers for the NVidia card and wondered if that has DirectX9 or DirectX10 installed for gaming, or if I have to download that separately? I was wondering how I can tell and if it's on 9 I would like to install 10 instead... can someone advise?

@sal20037181 - So GTA IV is playable then? Like even on scenes w/ alot of action there's not alot of slowdown? I was thinking that everyone was saying it was very choppy and overall not a very fun experience... that's why I haven't even given it a shot

Thats mostly a GPU thing instead of a processor thing but heck, its up to you lol.

@tropi = Some games will do the choosing for you and install the Dx version you need prior to initialising so don't fret ay? Like BC2 has an auto config, so it probably chooses 10 but changes back to 9 if you have an older GPU etc.

@rambler = Orrite mate. Nice to know its a software thing and not my AWESOME dying.

Anyone using an external blu-ray player with this laptop? I'm looking at the ASUS on newegg, but not sure if I like using 2 out of the 3 USB ports. The powered one takes only 1 USB, but you have to carry a clunky cord around.

Has anybody managed to connect theirs to a 720P HDTV via HDMI cable?

I've got mine hooked up to my Panasonic 32" 720P HDTV. At the moment the TV is detecting the signal as 1080P and so not all of the notebook screen is visable on the TV screen.

I'm playing around in the Nvidia Control Panel settings, there is a section to select the HD format for the TV, both 1080P and 720P are there as options, but when I click on the 720P output and hit apply, the control panel thinks about it for about a minute before reverting to 1080P.....

Anybody know why the flap it would be doing that?

Maybe the video driver needs updating? I'd go and do that but I believe this laptop needs special hybrid drivers due to the twin graphics cards.

Best upgrade I have done for the M11x is an SSD Agility OCZ 60GB. Amazing difference. Opens things just as fast as my i7 M15x.

    Quick question according to everest I currently have 2 - 1 GB DIMM3: Samsung DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)

What should I upgrade to for 4GB worth of memory? Any recommendations. Dell sent me 2-1GB sticks want to swap them out for 2-2GB Sticks any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Does this laptop run Crysis on the following settings?:
    Shaders:high
    Shadows:medium
    Physics:high/medium(doesn't really matter)

    Rest on low.

I tried to get the best graphics with the lowest settings, and I think this actually looks quite good on my desktop. I wonder if the m11x is capable of doing this at a playable framerate.

I don't have one myself (yet), but I'm seriously considering buying one of these awesome laptops. I also would like to know the windows hardware review scores(control panel>System and Security>Review your computer's status>view performance and information), I haven't found one with an OC'd SU7300 yet.

    Thanks alot!

Note: the windows review scores are on a scale from 1.0 to 7.9, not 1 to 10.

Yeah, it goes into a micro sleep mode if you don't move it for a few seconds... I was worried about it being an issue, but in reality it's really not bad. I wish it was a bit longer, but after a brief stutter, it works just fine. And in games, I'm never stopped long enough for it to matter. Plus, all ya gotta do is plug in the USB cable if you are into a serious hardcore game session.

Have been pleasantly suprised with the mouse, really nice, connects instantly, and tracks super smooth. Hard to complain.
