    hey guys,

Just wondering about the Keyboard LED lighting.

When you change yours into the white LED does the left side of the Keyboard (especially CAPSLOCK) shows slightly different colour than White?

I mean it doesn't bother me, but just want to check if it's normal or mine is faulty.

33 days from my order date. I also had to drive to the Fedex station to get it because Dell shipped it via the wrong method and left off my apartment number.

You're going to sacrifice a faster OS and computer overall to use the DS3?

EDIT: Oh I see, you want other XP software.
EDIT2: Oh wait a minute, that was someone else. ;)

that happened to me last night. what i did was i went to the path that was indicated by the error and then deleted all the pictures in the folder. tried it again and it then worked for me.

if you need more details, i can tell you the exact folder i deleted the files from when i get home. but honestly, it was the the same folder that was shown in the error message. hope it helps :D

Well I ordered mine on the 23rd of Feb and my order status hasn't even changed to 'Work in Progress'. I've spent about 60 minutes on the phone talking to their helpdesk and apparently there are 'parts shortages'.

The parts will be delivered tomorrow and apparently I can expect delivery at the end of this month or start of next month. She couldn't give me an exact date so I'm not holding my breath.

This is the first computer that I've bought from Dell and I'm really not impressed with the service.

The xbox 360 controller uses a proprietary RF technology. If you're going to use it wirelessly with your computer you need the receiver. (i think they're like $20)
Otherwise, you can just plug in a wired 360 controller. (note: you cant use a play n charge cable to connect a wireless controller to a computer, it has to be a WIRED controller)

    A 32-bit windows 7 is basically as fast as a 64-bit windows 7, isn't it??
If i am right, then using 4GB ram should make no difference between them.

XBOX360 controller does not use bluetooth.

Is your XBOX controller wired or wireless?
For wired XBOX controller (for x86/x64 windows)
    1) Download driver from microsoft
    2) Plug and play

For Wireless XBOX controller (for x86/x64 windows)
    1) Buy a wireless receiver (USB)
    2) Download driver from microsoft
    2) Press the XBOX button to connect & play

For connecting PS3 Controller with USB (it doesn't work for 64-bit win)
    1) You need a USB cable
    2) Go to this link
    http://davieslim.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/using-ps3-controller-in-windows/

For connecting PS3 Controller wirelessly (it doesn't work for 64-bit win)
    1) You need a bluetooth dongle
    2) Go to this link

32bit will not address 4GB of memory, only 3. So when you look at the system properties screen, you will only see 3GB even though you have 4 installed. No reason to go with 32bit IMHO.

You should be able to run older software using the compatability modes by right clicking on the .exe and going to properties. There is a compatability tab.

You'll have to buy your own card, and use one of two antenna wires from the wifi card.

That way you can get the data signal, but you'll only get wireless-G instead of N unless you reconnect it.

this guy is right. NO reason at all to do 32bit. I haven't ever used the compatibility thing either. I mean if you have 2gb ram sure, but if you ever want to upgrade to 4gb ram, you're going to have to do a clean install to recognize all 4gb of ram..

Vista 64-bit ran better than Vista 32-bit. I have a feeling Windows 7 is the same way. Since most computers now come with 64-bit I'm sure more programming time is spend on it than the 32-bit version.

I've been using mine for 4 days now..so far no issues (touch wood) and I absolutely love this little beast.
I disable battery charging when I plug the AC in at home. But when I start the machine back up the battery charging goes back on again. Its a pain to have to disable it everytime in the bios..is there a way around it?

    Man!
    (i got my m11x today)
This thing is beautiful. Absolutely amazing.
I don't ANYTHING wrong with mine. Only game I've installed so far is Crysis Warhead.. and holy crap. I did NOT think it would run this well. It's great!

I only have two issues so far:
I keep hitting the left direction arrow instead of the down arrow. (just seems lined up differently than most keyboards)
and a lot of times i hit the space bar, but dont press it in enough and it doesnt register.. although it feels like i pressed it enough. (actually did this twice while typing this post).
Pretty small complaints, i must say.
I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality on this thing. People have been saying terrible things about it so i expected really crappy audio. It's not crappy at all.
Sorta shocked at how small it is.. screenshots cant really portray exactly how tiny it is. I love it.

Many times this has been asked... ;)

This is a limitation of the LEDs. Keep in mind, the LEDs have to display a wide range of colors - the 'white' will never be true white. This is the same on the M15x and the M17x.

Yo man, I heard this is totally normal and on all the M11x's due to them being designed to change to so many colours.

Also, great to hear so many people so happy with the M11x above :D

I'm not mad on the arrow keys either, they're too narrow in my opinion. I'm used to using the arrow keys (instead of WSAD) having played older games over the years where they more commonly used. It probably doesn't bother much people but considering it's a gaming laptop, it was something I was surprised to see when I opened it up. Also, I'm right-handed and the WSAD keys encourage left-hand use.

There is no actual documentation on this. It is what it is... ;)

The M15x, M17x both have the same behavior. Its as close to white as its going to get. You can edit the theme file manually (.xml) however there is no hex color code which will be closer to white. Its just the way the LED's display it.

Open your Mouse Control Panel. Synaptics tab, check the checkbox to disable the internal pointing device (touchpad) when a USB mouse is connected.

@nsxrrmaniac = The synaptics drivers have been having trouble with that setting on this particular system I've heard. God knows why all the drivers that aren't given by dell have "quirks" which would otherwise let them work fine on the system.

The synaptics driver has had long standing issues with this feature. The recent drivers have had an issue with it - I see the same behavior on the M17x. This is why I rolled back to the stock Dell drivers.

speaking of the drivers from the Synaptics website. I installed scrybe the other day, and I'm loving this touchpad. Working smooth. Everythings well, pinch zoom, two finger scrolling. Now I just need to actually take time to learn the gestures.

I havn't really used a mouse, but you can increase the palm check sensitevity. I currently have mine set to max and so I don't really notice much palm issues when typing, so I'm assuming the same would hold true for gaming. It's a nice feature. I dont worry much when typing emails and havn't had an issue with the touchpad picking up my intended movemnts. It's worth a try.

EDIT: not using scrybe, just the latest drivers from the synaptics website.
    I don't really like the pinch/zoom.
    I haven't used it very much, as i just received my laptop today;
but it's like you have to have your fingers a good distance apart when you touch with two fingers. It's as if it cant tell they are two seperate fingers unless there's a good distance..
Maybe there's a setting to adjust this? Or I'm just used to my iphone screen :D
Oh well, It's not a huge issue.

As far as the keyboard white issue..
Mine is totally a solid white-ish color. (more of a really light blue actually.. but depending on the lighting in the room it looks white sometimes.)

So I ran into my first issues that I can't resolve myself. I don't know what happened as I thought I did everything by the book.

    1. Batman:Arkham Asylum will not run, I installed it, configured the graphics and everything and when I click play, nothing happens. I've restarted probably 4 times and still nothing.

    2. Something is up with the sound. It's weighted about 30% more output to the left even though I went through the volume controller and confirmed that they were in fact listed as level. Not only that but when I did kill the left speaker and only have the right one on, it sounded like it was coming from the touchpad and not actually from the right hand side of the computer.

Help is requested kind lords and ladies.

Edit: scratch the speaker thing, just saw that its just how they are placed

Thanks, I'll wait until I receive mine and see if I have any touchpad issues while using a mouse. If not, then I'll give the Scrybe software a shot. I can always revert back the Dell drivers as well.
