"You aren't getting 10 hours battery life just because the battery shows 10 hours remaining."

Sorry I timed it, 10 hours just sitting there in idle with screen on set to 2nd brightness, power settings set to balanced, using IGP with alienfx on

If im browsing the net a lot and playing a mp3 here and there i get about 9 hours

Those are huge gaps, they shouldn't be anywhere near that big. It should just be straight line from top to bottom with a VERY minimal gap in between.

The gap at the corners should be the same as the gap further down the monitor on your pics.

It kind of looks like the top corners of your screen were pried out or something. :(

I had something like that happen. I know for sure windows update helped my SD card reader - which was two of the unidentified devices or whatever. Forgot what fixed my last one.

I mean like through the windows update that shows up in the taskbar, not through the driver profile thing in device manager. Try that.

Does anyone else experience severe buzzing sound that apparently comes from the fan when they tilt the laptop even slightly when they carry the laptop around?

@Desertf0x9 - I don't get that buzzing sound at all dude... as a matter of fact I can't even hear my fan running it's so quiet... I know alot of other owners have also complained about fan noise but I don't experience that either

I'm trying to think what the last one was. Best bet is to just download the drivers off dell's site and install them. Could be the freefall sensor under hdd drivers? But yeah I suggest just running each driver installer from the site, going from most probable to least. As in go through the list and see if any of them don't seem to show up in device manager.

Right. So for those who care. I just called today. Tricky ppl changed the date of the offer from march 22 & 23 to march 21&22 (ie today is last day!!) so I called and ask what they are willing to do. Otherwise I would return my product and just reorder for $50 cheaper plus better harddrive. (sorry I thought it was $100 cheaper but it's really $50 after tax. They pulled the calculator on me!!). But what they did was just credit me for $100. $50 for the savings, and $50 for the price of upgrade from my 250gb hdd to the 350gb one. Not bad, 15 min of talk for $100 credit.

I was quite relieved that I can barely hear the fan noise on my laptop.
I too was worried about how loud it was going to be.

It could also be the driver for the battery meter - which IIRC is installed through one of the Alienware applications.

We could tell you for sure if you right click on the unknown device, go into properties, then details, select "Hardware Ids" and post the information up here.

Maybe this is a Windows 7 thing, but how do I move the icons of some of the items like the Intel graphics, or Realtek audio stuff.

I hit customize, and choose "hide icon and notifications" but it stays there.

I'm going to give dell a call and have them replace my fan, I can deal with a loud fan, but everytime i even slightly lift up my laptop from my table theres this loud buzzing sound. For something I'll be using on the go all the time it's definitely going to drive me nuts.

Can't be, he's already done Windows Update (which has the updated card reader driver), and the two 'base system devices' were fixed.

I'm going to order mine tomorrow, with an SU7300, 4Gb RAM, 320GB HDD(I already have an iPhone sized 500GB external HDD) for just 800 euro's. The default version costs 800 euro's too, but by pure luck I found some sort of special offer AND a 10% off coupon.

All together 830 euro's, shipping costs 30 dollars..

    Can't wait :).

Is anyone else having problems with steam? It went to do the latest update... Got to 27% then crashed! Hasn't worked since. Reinstalled it still same error.

I was so pissed of because I was 2/3 the way through downloading ff11!
Data in Australia is not cheap especially if it is wireless!

    Please help...

    @Thomas,

Do you need the bigger hard drive space? Can you afford an aftermarket SSD? In hind sight, I wish I just got the 160g hd cause I upgraded to a SSD and it made this machine fly.

Now that I've had my m11x just over a week, all I can say is "It is freakin' awesome!". Priority one was being able to have a small notebook (ultra-portable, netbook, whatever) that I could lug around and have battery last more than 4 hours. I have 6 hour lectures (yes, one class before you ask, I'm a medical student) and I can leave the m11x on all day using power saving features, I easily get 6 hours of use with 62%-65% battery left. My power saving settings are not to let the m11x shut off but screen goes dim after 10 minutes and turns off after 30 (which for me has not happened yet, always typing). I never turn on wifi, except to check email then turn it back off. Screen for me in class is on one bar and is bright enough. Then the gaming on this is wonderful. I'm not a big FPS player, I enjoy RPG's far more, and Dragon Age is wonderful.

My Dell pitch: If you are looking at purchasing this: DO IT! Several times I thought I would regret the deciscion but I haven't yet. Was worth the freaking one month wait  And, I guess fortunately for me, I haven't had an issue with it at all. (Now that I typed that...)

Has anyone tried to output to a 1080p TV yet? How does it perform while gaming? Thinking about outputting to my 52' Sony and playing MW2 when I get my M11x.

there's no way to do any nice graphic intensive 1080 gaming on this.. probably if you set 720P res.. but i did a lil crysis on my HDTV using 720P it did ok almost just like running off laptop screen..

hi guys. just got my m11x today two weeks ahead of my estimated arrival date. Firsdt thing i do is try and turn on the OC and i get bsod right after log in. i've tried with integrated on, discrete on, plugged in, on battery, different power settings. In short every combination i can think of and no matter what i get bsod within a minute when OC.

This is my first laptop and im pretty dissapointed this feature isn't working as i paid for a 100%functional machine not an 80% one. The OC was a selling feature for me. i've been looking everywhere on these forums for info related to my problem and as i have found no solution i now have a couple questions of my own.
    1) is the OC problem to be something that a bios update can fix or should i raise a stink with Dell CS and try and get a new unit out of this?
    2) If i do go through Dell CS what is the best way to go about getting them to ship me a new unit? Do they give a damn about me not being able to OC? Is it something i should even mention as my problem or should i be as vague as possible?
    3) or instead of replacement should i just get an m15x, abandoning my nice little long batterylifed, supplemental gaming rig.

seriously though this thing is pretty cool, already getting used to BC2 on the small screen. thanks in advance guys. look forward to hearing from you all

Make sure you tv is set-up correctly. (1:1)
If it's still not centered, right click and go the the nvidia control panel. All the options you might need are in there.
You might just have to find the option that says "screen resize" or something, and it lets you manually pull the edges to fit correctly.

As far as I know the settings are correct on the t.v. I tried resizing to 4:3 just to see if that would show me the edges but they were still cut off. I also tried the NVIDIA control panel but I couldn't find setting that would show me difference. Thanks for the help guys

Guys I just got Battlefield Bad Company 2 running on this thing and it looks great. The only problem I have is that the PS3 Controller is hooked up and it looks like it's also seeing the mouse as an input and is jacking up my mouse look. The game shows keyboard, mouse and joystick and I see the axis is set up for both mouse/joystick... I can't go forward at all while I have my controller plugged it because it just sends me spinning in circles... what's up with that? Is there a fix/patch for this? I don't want to play this w/ the mouse...

    1. What's the native res of your HDTV? 720 or 1080? Make the TV the correct res, go to Screen Resolution in Windows.
    2. Once the TV is connected, it should be in the bottom left of the NVIDIA control panel, one of the options contains 'screen resize', I used this to get the overscanned bits that were cut off back in and it looks fantastic now. When I get home, I can double check exactly where it should be.

The M11x performs better when the screen isn't cloned (which is bad anyway if your TV is 1080p).

i had an Xps m1730 17" panel ..no problem at all..but it was very heavy and i sold it..

    i will order 11x

I love playing bad company 2 on my m11x. The only problem is that people online are too good. I liked playing it on the 360 cause the controller is an equalizer kind of lol. Going to be playing just cause 2 all day today though.
