Anyone know how to have IE8 come up in a full-screen window when clicking on a link? Mine keeps opening in a new window, and then I have to maximize it. This is only for links though, I've got it setup for new IE8 sessions to automatically maximize.

This fan is quiet compared to my old laptop, not concerned.
-
Its not the fan noise thats concerning, its the fact that I am getting way less battery life since it developed. Hopefully there is a fix soon. Otherwise, its all gravy.
-
Battery life, makes since, but id still be happy get 4 hours! my last laptop died in 30 minutes, idle. sometimes less.
- do you know where i can find the other wall papers that were available when we configured? -
I have been checking the site for some time and have learned alot. I just put in an order for a m11x Su4100 and 4 gigs of ram. Now one thing i learned is the su4100 as close in performance to the su7300 Not knowing the difference i would have sure took the 7300 and not the ram. This may have been asked and answered but the game i play the most is world of warcraft. Will i be able to play on ultra setting and what kind of framerates can i expect on this thing?
-
The wallpapers are on your system. Just right click on your desktop and choose 'personalize' and mess around until you find them...
-
You made the right choice as the ram will give you much more bang for your buck. The two processors are about the same in power with the 7300 just giving virtualization support which isnt a big deal for most people.

Reposting since the links are buried somewhere
Blue login screen I made: http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4576/backgrounddefaultblue.jpg

Can't remember who's the owner of this sorry.
With factory install they should be in C:\Windows\Web\Wallpapers\Alienware -
Love the blue login screen! Thanks!

so, i sent away the letter i posted to the [email protected] address and the team blackhawk addres i could find. the next morning i got a call from sonny at dell corporate whoi apologized profusely for my crappy time with the techs and CS. He said that that he had looked into my issue and gave me two options. one was return the system, for free with no restocking fee or wait for a phonecall from a tech the following morning. He pointed out that if the tech could not help me once again that i could still return the sytem without having to worry about restockingh fees or shipping and henadling. i said i would wait and talk with a tech . I woke up this morning and had a message on my voicemail from the tech with a phone number and a ext to get a hold of her. She actually ended up phoneing mwe again and i goit to talkin with her for all of 30 seconds and now they are sending me a replacement, so i can send back my faulty system when i get the new one, a coupon for $75 and a printable sticker for free UPS shipping.
I am positive that it was the [email protected] address that got me these results as the team blackhawk guy who is trying to help me hasnt got as far in his investigation as he still needs more info from me. thanks for all the help guys. hopefully everything works out the second time around -
Sonny is a good person to work with, I talked to them the other day when I was looking for a travel charger for my m11x.
-
You're absolutely right, my bad. I was actually looking at the M15x in his sig.
Sorry! -

Travel charger? Do tell, I'm going to need one! -
I just pulled the trigger today... pretty excited. SU4100, 4GB, Gigabit ethernet.
For those considering an M11x from Dell USA, note that the sku in Canada changed to include the 1000 NIC instead of the 10/100 this morning. I'm not sure how long it will be until the US site offers this, but it's likely soon. Prior to today, there was no 1000 NIC option for Canada and I don't see it on the US site at all yet. -
1000 NIC option?
WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh c'mon Dell! -
This 1000 nic thing, is this only for the ethernet port or does it apply to the wifi as well? And I think I'm finally about ready to order. I have a friend coming on the 24th of this month. If I order maximum by the 5th will it arrive in time? (address is in San Diego)
-
It only has to do with ethernet.
A big omission was the lack of gigabit ethernet port. They didn't really just screw people who got it the first month like that did they?
I'll wait to see if it's confirmed. -
Will this charger work with M11X?
Spiff -
I asked Sonny in parts at dell and this is the one he told me will work. I am going to order it next week and I can let you know if it does for sure work.
-
It's such a "big" omission, I never even plugged the network cable. (WiFi for the win
). I'd rather have another USB instead.
-
Who uses etherent on a laptop this size anyways =P.
-
I much prefer the dual band wireless for Internet; I plan to use the GB ethernet in place of eSATA. Thinking substantially into the future, I could see external drives with an SSD inside. The bandwidth over GB ethernet would be substantially improved over USB 2.0. Here's a product today that's got the interface.
http://www.iocellnetworks.com/product/351une.php
■ NDAS Technology
- SATA drives & gigabit ethernet have exceeded 100MB/sec data transfer
- NDAS software can bind multiple drives on the network
- Aggregate 2-8 drives into one spanned unit
- Utilize 2-8 drives as RAID 0 array
- Combine 2 drives as a RAID 1 array for fault tolerant storage -
I've had that charger since I purcashed my M1530 2 years ago. Works like a champ in the car, plane, and even at the hotel plugged into the wall. It works perfect with the M11x as well. I've used it with mine on several occassions.
-
Anyone? How long would the config take to ship out from dell? (which from then I guess should take 3-5 days to get to my friend's address) Also anyone know about the neoprene sleeve..its been "temporarily out of stock" for a while now..
-
At the max, 20 days, they will probably deliver it sooner though. Its up to you if you are willing to take the risk.
-
Isn't Firewire interface faster?
-
I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for the info SVTSnake.
Is it much smaller than the power brick supplied for the M11X?
Spiff -
Its a little wider, but much much thinner. A goo comparison would be to go to Best Buy and check out the new Targus power bricks. The thin ones are the ones I am refering to. The adapter tips are all seperate so you only need to take what adapter you need with you.
-
Guys, do you notice some lines on solid images?
For example this one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5020311/lines.png
Some kind of vertical lines, not visible from distance, but if you look at screen more close you can notice them. -
Thanks for the reply again SVTSnake.
I ordered my M11X last week and I will be using it on the road exclusively as I have an Asus G51J for home use. I will order this power brick now.

This has me a bit put off on getting it:
Please Note: The Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Power Adapter is a 65 watt adapter and will allow you to use the same adapter for auto, airplane and AC outlets. However, your system will operate slower and the battery may take more time to charge than it would with a 90 watt AC adapter.
I might pick it up, just for the AC adapter for plane travel....provided I can keep going business class
-
I'm surprised that the M11X would need a 90watt power supply? Can anyone tell me what the OEM power supply pumps out for wattage?

Since many people have used this by now, here's my question:
I'm a graduate student studying game development. I have an hp dv4t with a C2D P8700, but with a GeForce 105M GPU.
1. How much of a performance gain will I get with M11x GPU?
2. Will the CPU performance be extremely poor as compared to SU7300
3. I run Maya, Visual Studio, 5 browser tabs, and VLC at the same time. Will the Alienware stutter at this level of multitasking(with 4 gigs of RAM)
4. Also, I live in LA, so is there a place close by where I could actually see this product live?
Thanks -
I don't have an answer for you application questions. What I can tell you is that it should be in the BestBuys on the 11th of this month. So you might be able to see it there. There was a thread about it a day or two ago. Also at MicroCenter I think. I'm not sure how the 335M compares to your old GPU, but it's a good fit for the M11x and plays lots of games at great frame rates. Another thing is the only differance between the SU4100 and the SU7300 is that the SU7300 allows you to run virtual systems. Meaning you can run an operating system in your native operating system. If you don't do that, then save the money and go with the SU4100. Both CPUs operate at 1.73GHz and you will see no differace otherwise. We have seen this in synthetic benchmarks and gaming benchmarks
-
the "lines" are apparent with any background. Look closely at your whites.
I wouldn't be too picky about that IMHO. The screen isn't great but its not bad either. -
Thanks, but I'll simplify my question for those that have already used it:
I know it is good for games but can you make this your main computer?
How good is it at running various programs at once(not games)?? -
AC power isn't available in coach?
People keep forgetting about the additional 1MB cache that the SU7300 comes with. This may not make a big difference in games, but I'm sure there are some apps that could make use of it.
No issues that I've found, but then I got the 8GB RAM option. I'd think 4GB should suffice, but I just wanted to max mine out.
-
Thanks, but could you give me an idea of the kind of programs you run at the same time?
-
Games, MS Office and Internet Explorer. I've even had MW2 and BBC2 (games) running at the same time.
I suspect this laptop could work as your main PC if you don't need additional CPU power. Connecting an external monitor, keyboard and mouse should work great. -
Has anyone comfortably able to run more resource hungry apps at the same time.
My point is I do not want this ONLY for gaming, but also for running various apps like photoshop, maya, visual studio 2010 etc..... is it good for that or do I need a more powerful C2D... -
I suspect Photoshop and Visual Studio may be better served with a more powerful CPU. The M11x is billed as an ultra-portable gaming laptop, and it does very well at that.
-
It runs VS2k10 (or any other application for that matter) perfectly fine. People act like this is an Atom processor or something. It's not. It's a C2D processor - and runs everything that I've been able to throw at it smoothly.
I've stated this before - but if you want to see a vast improvement with this particular laptop - I cannot state enough how much of a impact an SSD is to the overall performance (especially with non-gaming applications). I have a mini 10v and an 11z - the m11x blows both of them out of the water hands down in performance (both processor and video, of course). I have a work laptop 6930p (P8600) which has an 7200 RPM HDD, and the m11x outperforms it..
I also have a Core i7 Desktop - again with a 10k HDD. From overall responsiveness of the M11x - comparatively speaking - the 2 systems *feel* equivalent in that I run just as many applications (Browsing, Office, Coding, Games, etc.) on each system. The only difference I've noticed between the 2 is obviously with DVD and music encoding/conversion.. However - I don't do much of that and when I do - I'd do it on my desktop anyway..
For portability/price/performance - this system can't be beat - there's NOTHING out on the market that's comparable ... at least yet. -
Hey, thanks a lot..... since $1100 is not a small amount I was a little apprehensive and wanted to make sure it runs and multitasks other programs as well as games...... the low clock speed of the ULV processors even after OC put me off.... now I guess I'll sell my dv4t and buy this tiny beast!
-
T
here is no power of any kind in coach. Just tiny seats.
-
Anyone find the integrated makes the display look dull/washed out?
The display on intel integrated just looks washed out/not sharp compared to being on the 335m and just hurts my eyes after 1-2 hours of use.....
I'm fine when on the 335m but whenever I'm on the integrated (85% of the time) it just looks like a cheap crap TN screen for some reason. -
the more I use the M11x to game and watch videos the more I notice the screen is not the best. I'm running 335m all the time now via bios though but yeah, no comparison to my old Dell 1640 SXPS 1080p RGB.. although there shouldn't be a comparison lol.. but either way love this comp.
-
Yeah that's weird. It only looks like that when I'm in IGP... AND I'm on battery. When I'm on AC power it works normal...
-
hey guys.. im having some overclocking issues..
i was just wondering if anyone's comp crashes after 2 hours of enabling the overclock in the bios... i crashed while playing chess!!
