Ok, so i call tech support today about the dead pixels or whatever is in the screen. He starts in on the 6 dead pixel policy. But he troubleshoots it and pulls up my screen on his computer. Nothing there. I say im looking right at them. It must be trash between the screen and glass. He said im sticking by my first answer. This is after being on hold for 30 min. I told him i would be happy with just a new screen. He said nope return the computer. Then he transfers me to order support. I explain the problem and i get the 15% restock line. I was polite but firm obvously frustrated. He puts me on hold. Then gave me a choice of full refund or another computer. I took another computer. Why couldnt they just have done that in the first place?

 

The actual Alienware dead pixel policy is they will replace the screen if there is one dead pixel in the center of the monitor, or two on the edges. I am sure he made you jump through hoops as he was following proper dell protocol on his end. There is no way he could pull up your screen on his end and see dead pixels. It just doesnt work that way. I wonder if he thought you were lying?

 

He might have. The guy at order support asked a few times was that the only reason i was returning it. I didnt want to return it. That was my only option with tech support. Then he put me on hold and gave me the 2 options. I would have been happy with just a screen.

 

Honestly, after the first half hour, I didn't remember I was on an 11 inch screen. I have a 17x as well but I was in bed last night playing lfd2 and me2. I never did that with the 17x. Yesterday I played MW2 on it and it really is crisp on this lil beast! I was hesitant as well, but 2 days in I am loving it so much, I may sell the 17x.

The M11x isn't my main home PC. But on a plane or train, the screen is just fine. If I'm in a hotel room, I'll connect to the TV they have there if I can. I got this mainly for gaming on the go, and battery life. And for that it's quite the jewel.

 

Persistence pays off. Dell puts up a hard front because if they didn't, they'd have more computers coming back for all sorts of reasons and that cuts into profit. Good on you for holding your ground.

Your tech was an idiot or took you for one with regard to his remote connection. His screen capture is of the image sent to your display, not an optical representation of your screen. There is no way he could ever have ascertained whether you had a real problem that way. It was either pointless diversion or you had an untrained fool guiding you.

So, this new computer you are getting... another M11x? Do you keep the current one until your replacement arrives...details man, details!

Yes, another m11x. I have 10 days to return this one after i get new one. I do love this thing.

 

Would be interesting to hear from him, but he basically said all that months ago when the laptop was first releasing. Before he always said sometime between August and October for a refresh.

Personally, I wouldn't even want Optimus, reports so far suggest that it doesn't work very well, and so you end up not getting max power when you need it (most notably it doesn't recognize SC2 as a game), or bumping up to max at times when you don't want it (youtube video). Better to be in control, and if I want to drop a few frames on that HD video to stay on integrated it is no problem.

 

I love this thing. My only complaint is the screen not coming on when I close the lid and open it back up.

 

That happend to me on Toshiba,HP and Lenovo laptops coming back from sleep mode once in a while.

 

For anyone looking for the vinyl skins for the m11x, I finally found a company willing to go ahead and produce one! Invisibledefenders.com has taken my pictures and measurements and is sending out a test skin for me to try out in a couple days.
Also, the 12" netbook bag from Best Buy that someone mentioned way back is perfect for this thing! Fits like a glove! Hey, guys. I'm looking to sell my M11x. I just got it as a replacement 2 days ago (so it's almost new lol) after all the screen alignment issues. This one has no problems whatsoever. Since it's getting a little late, I'm going to post this sucker in the marketplace tomorrow. Please PM if interested (continental USA only).

 

Finally got mine. It looks good, but after 2 hours play with it having one BSOD (while using Truecrypt). And also having 3 annoying bad pixels grouped together, thinking about calling dell.

Ok so I ordered (still waiting on confirmation email) and I have an estimated delivery date of 4/26. My question is how good of a chance do I have to receive it by 4/24? I have a friend coming from the states then and I ordered next business day delivery just to shave off a couple days from the shipping time but am still worried since the edd is 2 days after she leaves...

i playing multiplayer fps on my 24" nec lcd..but sometimes i travelling and i want to run my favorites fps on this lappy..

i never played games at so small lcd..the smallest lcd was an 17" dell xps m1730
but it was very heavy for travelling and i sold it..

I must say that the small screen isn't bad at all, the only thing that's a bit annoying sometimes is that in browsers you don't have as much space as you have on a big screen, but gaming and writing stuff feels the same.

I usually play on a 22" 1080p screen or a 32" 1080p tv (xbox), but this 11" screen feels good.

Now I have a question:

the lumination of the keyboard is almost invisible during the day, and some keys are better lit than others (caps and tab look really good but for example S H and W dont). Is this normal, and are there settings to make it brighter or something?

Now a more important issue, I sometimes hear the spring when I press a button, the keyboard sometimes feels rediculously bad, I just get the feeling it's made in a toy factory. Is this normal? I don't really care about the "feeling" but I don't want it to break.

 

Im used to playing xbox on a 140 inch projector, but I must say the small screen on this is just great! Since you are only a arms reach from it at any time it doesnt seem to be all that small.

I don't hear any springs or squeeks on mine. All the keys feel like they require even pressure and such. A squeaker sounds annoying : \

It all depends on how you have power management configured when on battery power.

 

Ok, I think I have a problem.

I overclocked it and it runs fine now, but I've read that the fan should be on all the time, and mine isn't. It's just doing the same thing but I'm sure it's overclocked. Is this normal or should I worry?

 

No, the fan should not be running all the time. You're good.

I need to use a SIXAXIS PS3 controller on it, but it is not possible in Windows 7 64 bits, So I need to use Windows 7 32 bits, but the problem is that the dell drivers website, only have support to windows 7 64 bits. Are the alienware software on "64 bits" also compatible with windows 7 32 bits??

BTW- I think you CAN use a plugged in SixAxis in w764, just not wireless. Not sure since I hate those things, main reason the ps3 collects dust.

 

The problem is that for Windows 64 bits, there is not a signed driver, but in 32 bits, you can use perfectly 2 sixaxis, totally wireless and rumbled working too...

 

I use a PS3 controller (no chance in hell I'm using a 360 controller if I want to play SF4 on the road) on both of my 64 bit Windows 7 computers, you just need to do some research. Look up either DSEO13b or just disable driver signature enforcement (however you have to do that every single time you start up your computer).

For those interested in the vinyl skins from invisibledefenders.com, I got my test skin in today! There's a couple things wrong with it (seen in the photos, the Alienware logo on the bezel is covered up) but I'm thinking they'll be ready this week. They're nice and fingerprint proof. The cover is perfect

 

I really don't like them. They make it look like a common laptop, and not like an ALIENWARE..

Nah, go to the website, looks like he got the tool set up, just pull up the m11x, there's almost 300 designs, plus you can make your own. He gave me that one because it was light colored and you could see the mistakes on the black laptop well. Though... I do kind of like it

 

Probably for any other laptop I own, but the stealthbomber look on my AWESOME is here to stay mate. Thanks for the heads up. Plus I'd think if someone took the dive and used the red glyphs wallpaper to make a vinyl, it wouldn't look half shabby.

 

Hi, I over clocked my M11X via the BIOS.Is there any way to actually see the processor is over clocked? i looked at the device manage and it shows two processsors running at 1.3 (U7300 at 1.3 GHZ)

download CPU-Z. It shows that it's running at 1.6000 MHz. Speculation is whether or not it actually runs at 1.6 or 1.73.

 

I'm not sure why CPU-z shows 1.6, but if you look at the hardware page when running 3DMark06 its shows 1.733mhz, so I'm inclined to believe its a glitch in the way CPU-z looks at the proccessor.

Well I officially became an owner on Wednesday! What a great little machine! I just sold my AW M9700 and this thing packs as much or more power.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to change the boot screen and stuff. Is there a tutorial or something, I can't seem to find the right keywords to search for.

So my vent lights. When I set them to yellow, they give me a tint of green. When I set them one palette down to orange, that looks like yellow. Does anyone have their yellow look greenish?
