Out of curiosity i called customer service as my replacement was supposed to be here in 5 to 7 days. It's been 7 days and still in production. The rep said it showed est ship date of 4-14 and she would forward something to whoever and to check back in 5 days lol. Im afraid they are just stringing me along so after the 21 days im screwed.

I'd be interested in seeing the koi one once you get it in! And it doesn't really interfere with the touch pad, it's just smooth instead of that nice textured surface. I use a mouse anyways so it doesn't create an issue for me. And yes, mine was custom. I spent so much time sending him pictures and measurements he let me put my own artwork on the skin for free.

I've probably missed it but anyone get the PCIe SSDs working?

Hey guys, I have owned the 1st batch of this notebook but returned it due to the chronic high spinning fan noise (sharp sound) even while idle and on integrated graphics. The fan would come on and off for no reason, and it is more noticeable than my desktop with core i7 and ATI 5870.
Any comment on fan noise for the newer owners? does the fan still come on and off randomly? I know noise will be loud during gaming, any comment on when its idle or just surfing, doing MS office and on integrated graphics?
Appreciate any feedback.

Well guys, you won't believe me, i see this lines only on nvidia. on intel, image is clear.
Look at this one:

This solid color in red zone.
On nvidia i see some barely visible vertical lines. And on intel all is clear.
Please, look at your lappy. Compare.
I've got stock drivers. -

And, yes, usb slightly annoy me, always force me to be careful no to scratch body.
Can you check my post #2269, in nvidia mode pls -
Ya, that is annoying. You could possibly break your USB/ethernet plug tips. Of course, we also cannot over look the glaring fault of you having to scratch up the side casing just to plug in things. I would definately give em a call for that.
The drastic solution would be that they may either replace the motherboard or even the whole laptop itself. The most likely scenario is that they may just send a technician over just to pop it open and reposition the the current motherboard. The motherboard may not be level or the connector ports may just need to be reposition slightly. -

^ that's awesome to know that wifi card works fine. Is it the same size? The one in our M11x is pretty damn small. Fortunately my signal strength in my apartment is fine, so I haven't had any issues with that.. but for $30, I'm always up for upgrades hahah

Any way to add internal BT2.1 for under the $40-$50 Dell charges? I got mine from Best Buy thus, not BT2.1, and my 2.1 dongle is always occupying the port I want to use. XD $40 is more than a bit high.
any alternatives? Will alternatives still be switchable in the BIOS?

Hey guys!
I'm really conflicted right now. I've been searching for a machine to purchase for college for a while now. I recently purchased an msi gx640 that arrived today that I may return due to heat issues (the lowest I can get the GPU temp to is around 65-70).
I thought the m11x would be a perfect machine for me. Light-ish, good battery life, decent performance. But now there are rumors about an upcoming refresh to the CPU. The CPU seemed like the biggest draw back, so a cpu refresh would be amazing for me.
Do you think it's worth it for me to purchase an m11x now or wait until a refresh? I need to purchase *something* by the middle of June.
Are there heat issues with the m11x? -
@centrik
There will not be a refresh version of m11x until atleast end of this year. This is from someone who works at Dell. -
-
-
The M11x seemed perfect. Are there any machines with similar specs that have a 13" screen? -
for school, m11x is really good for use in the class for its size, power and battery life. also a monitor plus keyboard and cooling stand, external CD + hardrive would be a good consideration for dorm life.
asus ul30jt. core i5um sounds very good, but again nvidia 310m vido card.
acer 3820T. core i5, ati 5650. you got to wait for this one, not released yet. -
@centrik,
You might want to take a look at Sony Vaio Z series only if money is not your concern. I believe you can get one for around $2,000 and it has Core i5 Cpu + Geforce 330m GT. -
I'm kinda pissed none of the best buys in my area have the m11x on display or in stock. I really would love to play around with it myself. -
-
@ centrik
To be honest, if you are going to use this computer a lot, I suggest getting vaio instead. Although this is bigger than a regular 11" netbook, the keyboard is cramped and screen is just too small. I was also one of the "screen resoultion" freak (hence I have WXGA+ screen on my 13" X301) but now I believe the screen size comes to a good play. But I am not going to lie to you, m11x is nice and can handle good games. I just played a few mins of mw2 yesterday and this machine, despite its size, handles it beautifully.
The only thing that you should really worry about Vaio Z is their "unique" SSD size. Unlike many other laptops, Sony decided not to fit a regular sized storage drives so you will have to spend some big change if it dies. -

my home office is at one end of the house, it has shelving floor to ceiling filing cabinets and printer and other desktops wiring galore and alot of other appliance like fans. What is also in that room is my internet wifi router( dlink modem/wifi router provided by dsl company).
My bedroom desk is at the other end of the house on a higher floor. My desk has all my goodies the dtr, cryo lx dual 24"lcds wiring up the wazoo and metal framed shelves of games, books cds the metal frame bed and drawers etc. and my fat body (yes i sit between my desk and the router LOL)
so there is about 4 walls and 2 rooms, 1 floor, a fat guy and alot of oher stuff that can interfere with reception between my m11x and the wifi,
with the 1520 dell, i only got two-three bars of reception.
with the 6200 i got the full bars all on the factory antennas
can you imagine the range you'd have outside?
i think its the best upgrade for the price i couldve done. and it has also dropped my latency online gaming a fairbit!
its the same half-size card but with twice the bang -
mk1freak, thanks for the info. Looks like I am buying a card on Ebay in a moment

mk1feak..man you're really selling this.. nice. I had a 6300 I think before in my SXPS 1640 and yeah the connection was great in that.. hmm I'll have to look into that.

This thread should be stickied. It's the closest thing to a general info thread that is normally stickied.

not trying to sell anyone on anything
just wanted to let people know of my experience with the lan upgrade for my m11
of course ymmv, but being able to essentially double your wifi range and strength, and have a marked improvement in online gaming for 30 bucks?
since i am so much into squeezing what i can out of my toys.
for 30 bucks even if i got a 1 bar improvement and 1 extra foot of range i still would've done it XD
add to that the fact that dell canada doesnt give us the option of upgrading the wfi during customization as well, it was a given i wouldve done it LOL -
how do i know which brand of RAM is my M11X using without having to open the bottom cover and to directly see the Brand?
does CPU Z tells what Brand the RAM is?
and is using Thermaltake iXoft cooling pad for the M11X works good enough?
anyone tried it yet?
im planning to get iXoft when my M11X comes, as it does not drain your battery life like the Fan Cooling and also it is of course, silent -
Infernal_Machine Notebook Enthusiast
It's one of those items you can't tell if it will be better or not until you try it =D -
@twe foju = Been using mine for almost 2 months without a cooler pad. The ram is probably samsung's I think. You don't need the pad unless you are thermophobic. :S

Does anyone know if the M11x can power 2 external displays? -
Guys, I'm thinking about getting M11x. I am concerned about size. I have Asus UL20A right now, and I'm just wondering how the m11x compare to other 12in or 10in ultraportable. Can anyone post a side by side picture?
-
If you have a magazine laying around, it's basically that size plus 1in for height.
-
Is it worth putting an SSD in the M11x for the price of an SSD?

damn im having a tough call of deciding to either nail the M11X or the Asus N82JV
i know this is the Alienware hood, obviously, ppl would suggest to the M11X
but man, the Asus N82JV is something that the M11X should have had ( the 3.0, i5 and Optimus)
did you guys think Alienware will take this matter into action very soon? with the release of N82JV, obviously, it have beaten the M11X in every aspect - spec wise, other than the design which of course AW will always win from Asus's light series, and while of course the N82JV is not a 11incher, but i think it's a close call -
The M11x is small.
The N82JV is big(ish).
That's the decision to make. If you're not looking for a very portable yet quite powerful laptop, the M11x is not worth considering. -
Has anyone put the Western Digital 750GB HDD in thier M11x? If space is your thing, 750GB is not too shabby. And for $110 too. No modding required and it'll fit.

N82JV has better specs 4sure..but the design is a mess for me...brown cover?
m11x its so sexy compare to asus.. -

So has anyone been able to figure out how to fix the dimming of the monitor? The screen will dim after a certain period of time, but even when i move the mouse/click the keyboard it won't go back to the brightness it was on. And it always dims to the lowest brightness even though I told it to dim to 2 bars.
-
-
-
Using the power management system provided by Win. adjusts screen dimming just fine. Just be sure to disable all the startup services that have anything to do with Fusion. -
^ Mikers speaks truth.
-
From facial recog. using up Proc. time, turning off battery charging option being broken to ALienware Fusion being bugged, we, the owners of the M11x, need an updated BIOS, drivers, and an update to the COmmand Center.
It would really be nice to have updated nVidia hybrid drivers and a Command Center software that I would actually voluntarily use.
Hey Dell, you listening?!
