From what I can tell, the battery disable funtion is not broken. You simply enter the BIOS/CMOS setup and disable battery charging like the manual says to do. Seeing "enabled" when you press the FN+F2 combination makes it seem like a toggle, but it's not. It's just a "current status" message. I tried to disable it while on battery power and it would not remember the setting, but it worked after I plugged it in. There is some bad info somewhere in these forums that I want to dig up and correct where a user claims that FN+F2 when POSTing will disable it. He's wrong.
And, yeah, the CPU resources being used by the facial recognition are inexcusable on a system with a GPU bottlenecked by the CPU, but it's ten times worse if you hibernate, then overclock, then resume. It jumps to using about 40% CPU resources at idle even when it should technically start using less to do the same work.

So I went to install a new hdd into my m11x (I got the 160 so I could upgrade later) I installed the new hdd, installed windows, all the drivers and everything but I cant find the themes or desktop images or anything online for download. I tried to use the m17x exe file thats supposed to have them all but it would just say error, can not install files.... So I ended up having to clone the old drive to the new one.
For the next time that I upgrade the drive, where can I find these files so I dont have to clone the drive again. -
If the N82JV benchmarks are anything to go by, am I mistaken in assuming page 1 here shows the GT 335M receiving 14712 in PCMark Vantage? That seems ridiculously high?
Here's the origin of the benchmark:
http://nb.zol.com.cn/168/1688249.html
There seems to be two benchmarks, clearly the first must be for the Intel IGP, and then the next one is the aforementioned.
And if I'm not mistaken, the laptop as a whole gets 12246.
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here. -
-
how much battery are you getting just with integrated grafics and wi-fi?
-
-
my bio settings:
speedstep: enabled
1394: disabled
usb power: disabled
bluetooth: disabled
overclock: disabled -

Do the M11x's come with a AW mouse pad?
-
^
Negatory. A bunch of us use razer kabuto's though. -
-
for a screen wipe? I like the black cloth the comes with the iPod Touchs haha
-
Guys, bought the Logitech Anywhere MX mouse and it's a FANTASTIC compliment to the M11x.
You can track on any service and it's compact, plus it has the same colors as the M11x (black / silver). The tracking is great, and it's a fine device for gaming even. It's a very attractive mouse and the flywheel is amazing for browsing and reading documents. Also, it's small, compact, and even has side forward/back buttons.
Highly recommended for 50£. -
I bought the WRT320N Gigabyte router from Lynksys and i get faster wireless transfer than with the Ethernet 100MB card !
I m using "Logitech MX Anywhere" mouse too, it s truly working on any surface, and it's robust...
I show the Alien inside of the Apple Store last saturday.
The apple guys were stunt, one was telling me he never saw anything like THAT....
-
yeah the Logitech Anywhere MX really fits the profile of the M11x. It's so great, I just did a 1 hour gaming session with the two pieces and loved it
-
Ay guys with kabutos, the screen doesnt close properly with the kabuto covering the keyboard up past the alienface ay, or is it just mine?
-
it's like that for everyone.
-
So do you let it slip off the edge a bit so the screen will close (after which it resembles black cheese in a square black/silver hamburger) or is it fine to leave it as is?
-
I let it slip off the edge a bit so it closes with less strain.
-
I leave it in there so it keeps my screen corner from poping out
-
It's rather nice - and its 'pwetty coloured lights' can be adjusted to match your keyboard etc. -

AAAA i've got new screen for my m11x, no dust! no white dots! no lazy pixels, yeeee

-
Ye, mine also.

)
-
^ nice thanks I will take the jump and upgrade..
-
You can also install the 197.16's...
the new Dell's are 197.12. not a big difference but hey.. -
-
edit: I think it did, since i now can switch between the GPU and IGP via ratio buttons on the hybrid graphics icon. -
If its a PCMark M11x thing were talking about , here is a screen shot from the bench thread. http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/5580/pcmarkvantageoc.jpg
I havn't had time to run it yet since it takes over an hour with all suites. Eventually I'll get to it. -
Did you run driver cleaner after uninstalling the old driver? That usually helps to avoid any caveats when updating.
Also, does anyone else use this? I thought I'd mention this product since users were discussing mouse pads a few pages back. I purchased one last night and I'm loving it. It fits well into my Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 medium sized bag. I've never been so comfortable using the m11x on my couch! -
so today i went to the john lewis collection and picked up my m11x - i'm typing on it currently. to be honest this is my first metal (on the outside, at least) laptop, so naturally i'm thrilled at the build quality. and my space bar works fine wherever i press.
the top row of status lights is a teeny bit rattly, and in all honesty, pretty hard to make out that was actually a wifi light at this angle. but, coming from a user of a white macbook running bootcamp for over a year, everything on this little machine is an improvement. except the hinge - it will occasionally squeak at me.
and now onto the performance. sadly i did notice the computer was a little slow - when compared to my overclocked Q6600 rig with 8GB ram and twin ati HD 4850 graphics cards, i did notice that day to day tasks such as shutting down, searching on the hard drive and other menial tasks were slower by a few seconds. poor show, alienware.
the only benchmark i got to run today was the devil may cry 4 one. i didn't show a screenshot, because screenshotting in dx10 requires windowed mode, and anyway there were a few floating around in the benchmarks forum (the pentium is practically no different). what interests me the most is the comparison to the last time i benchmarked devil may cry 4 on an older pc i updated with a modern graphics card
http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/9720/dmc4benchmarksv8.png
that was a 3.4GHz pentium 4 with hyperthreading, running on a 1280 by 1024 (but with a widescreen resolution, so much lower), in windows xp. and a 512MB 9800 GT. and it got a B. this little laptop got an A and barely fell below 45 FPS.
i've finally decided to buy arkham asylum, i don't get much access to my main pc, and that game's demo wouldn't run nicely on my macbook back in the day (which had a much faster processor and a 9400m GT. which was... ok.)
i guess i'm thrilled at this laptop. it's like all the possible worries i had about it have simply evaporated. and because the white macbook's screen stunk so bad i now think this m11x screen is the best i've ever used. talk about sheltered -
my problem is aero peek is disabled now..
nevermind, I just chose an aero default theme and it's back -

Ahh ok, gotcha. The highest Vantage score I've seen is the one in my sig done on an external monitor so that it can be run at the vantage defaults. It's linked in my sig. And it's an overclocked run. Running it at native res will not produce an over all "P" score, so it has to be done on an external. -
I'm getting very annoyed. More than once now I have attempted to resume and had it fail repeatedly until I restored the exact same conditions (plugged in or unplugged). This has never been an issue for me with past machines, though they all ran Windows XP and Hibernation may have worked differently. Good thing I ignored the "Delete restoration data?" option and kept trying.

I have to say I'm now very impressed with my M11x. My main PC is currently down waiting for a GPU to be RMA'd. So to cure my gaming withdrawl I thought I'd see how the M11x works as a portable gaming console!
So I bring the M11x downstairs to my HT setup in the family room. I connect it via HDMI to my 5.1 channel receiver, which outputs to my Pioneer 720p plasma HDTV display. I set the M11x display properties to output only to the second display (which it sees as my receiver). I then go into the Nvidia control panel and adjust max display output to 1920 x 1080 (720p), and then adjust the image settings so that the laptop's image correctly displays on the TV. Then I go into the audio settings and setup for a 5.1 speaker system, and away I go!
MW2 and L4D2 played excellently with no hiccups! 4xAA and all high settings for both games. My wireless signal was at 4 bars, and I did not experience any lag and response time was excellent. The image also looked beautiful on my plasma TV. Nice to know I can count on this little baby to fall back on if I need to! -
+1 CZroe for the interesting read!

Love my m11x.

does anybody here remember a link to a blue version of the alienware logon screen? I remember seeing it but i have been looking for 2 hours now and can't find it anywhere.
