Well, just as i thought my replacement was cancelled by dell. I called yesterday and was told everything was good and i would get e-mail when shipped. Check this morning and cancelled. I call them and im told its being built even though it's cancelled. Im glad i didnt return it because i have a feeling i would have been charged the 15% restock fee even though they said i wouldn't. I dont believe a word they say to me anymore :(

@azn = could you check if you have taskbar switching and keyboard switching for the display cards after the update? Cause I have both switching options now.

I just installed the new Dell video (beta) drivers, and they work like a champ! Keyboard and taskbar switching work just like the original drivers. :)

Awesome, i am getting tempted by this machine to go to best buy and check it out lol. I thought dell was going to take forever to release new drivers. What happens if you decide to use the modified drivers? You won't have the intel x4500 option right?

Does anyone get a popping sound with the new driver package? Feel like something happened to the audio driver.

Don't worry, it will come. Mine was cancelled and reordered I think 6 times over a 7 week period, and I finally got it. Whether or not the replacement is perfect.. now that is something to worry about... I'm not even going to go into it, suffice to say, there seems to be only one good employee at Dell and he doesn't build these things.

umm, no.. not for me anyway.... :p

So far the new driver seems fine for me. my one complaint is that brightness adjustment doesn't always work on integrated gfx. It was like that from day one.

I also have the brightness problem, but it only happened when i switch back from dedicated to integrated. I believe the Nvidia graphic card haven't fully shut down and at the same time using integrated gfx cause this problem. I just hope for newer driver will fix this.

Ugh. I uninstalled the nvidia stuff, used driver sweeper, and reinstalled. Doesn't always happen, but sometimes I hear small popping noises from the speakers. Weird.

You made your thread so see if people answer, I'm not sure you can spam every thread about this.

FYI Mate: all graphics cards behave strange on certain images. Is this a problem for all images or are you fixated on one image.

There's no perfect display or video card. Your eyes will always find one or two problems.

I also posted this question in the gaming topic, but I think it's better to do it here:

If the m11x gets a cpu refresh, is it possible to send your old one to them and let them replace the CPU, or something similair?

Some good news and some bad news:

Good news: I finally received the neoprene sleeve from AW for the m11x, it looks and feels great and the front pocket should be large enough for my power adapter and Razer Naga. Kinda worth the 2 month wait.

Bad news (possibly): Has anyone else had their m11x check their HDD for bad sectors and such after posting? I am getting this almost every time I start up my computer now and I don't remember changing any settings to check for this each time. I have let it completely finish it's diagnostics and it has found nothing three times. Hopefully I don't have a bad hard drive.

I posted this in another thread in the side topics forum but I did say I would post it in this thread here.

I finally got in my M11x skin from invisibledefenders and here it is.

It was rediculously easy to apply. The back cover is slightly crooked. I didn't notice until after I set it. My mistake was that I was only making sure that the alien head was not covered. It is really hard to tell that it is crooked anyways.

The LCD bezel cover took me some effort to set as I was trying to match the background image as best as possible. As you can see the image does not match perfectly but it still aligns correctly 90%ish.

Nope. It has not affected the sensitivity in the slightest. It does feel very different though and i prefer the honeycombed texture feel of the nonskinned trackpad. Of course, for aesthetics sake, I am leaving it skinned since it looks great and does not hamper the performance of the trackpad at all.

Hey, I'm trying to repartition my hard drive to take the free space out of my hidden recovery partition and add it to the main partition. Using Window 7's disk management I am able to shrink the recovery partition, but am unable to extend the main partition. The option is grayed out.

I do have an external optical drive, but I was wondering if there is a way to make a transfer without having to reformat or download/install a 3rd party program?

P.S. Using the stock 160GB 5400RPM hard drive, in case that it necessary information.

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to map each key its own color? ex. I would like to have F keys a color, letters a color, numbers a color, etc etc. I dont know if this is dumb question, forgive me if so. I did try and find an answer first, didnt have any luck at all.. Hope this makes sense! thanks for your time.

Other Alienwares can do it, just not the M11x. This keyboard can only be just one solid color.

Just Got my m11x yesterday, I got to play some Modern Warfare 2 on it today. Man I love this thing. The portability is awesome! The Screen size doesn't bother me. I just feel cramped sitting in front of it with my hand on the WASD's So I think i'm going to going to pick up the Belkin N52TE gaming pad for it tomorrow so i can spread out some more.

    So far I love it.

The only thing I don't like so far is the Wifi and the CAPS light are really dim and hard to see. Some people don't like the keyboard. I think its fine, I would just like to see aw add some sort of Fn number key pad on the right side of the keyboard to help with the number crunching. I would also like to see a way to disable the touch pad for when its not in use.

To make the WiFi and Caps lock key show more easily, change them to green. Easiest color to see so long as the keyboard is not green as well.

@raqemup: im looking to get the carbon fiber version at invisibledefenders, i just have a question for you before i do. do i have the option to leave the trackpad and buttons unskinned? or is the skin for the bottom part (palm rest) of the inside all one piece?

Yes, you can leave them unskinned. The Back cover and LCD bezel are 1 part each and the palm rest is 4 parts (2 buttons, 1 trackpad, the rest of the palm rest).

Not sure if you noticed, but there is a little adhesive skin over those lights. That can be removed to reveal a nice shiny strip. Also helps a little to see the lights. Also with an 11" laptop there really is no chance to add a number pad to the right without making the other keys the size of a qwerty keyboard ona cell phone :p But you can always buy a USB external I'm guessing.

Im terrible at writing scripts and mods and , but im sure being able to map individual keys would be simple task for some expierenced comput3r folk.. would really appreciate any help! Not to mention everyone else who owns an m11x would probably want to use it :)

Yeah I got the strip. about the number pad, I was thinking something like the asus EEE pc.

On it you press the Fn Key and it allows you to use the alphabet keys as the numbers. Making it easier to crunch numbers :p

I don't think there is any way to change the color of different parts of the keyboard. I didn't find that bad... it looks better for me if everything glows in a single color. I don't like that rainbow lighting that I've seen on some m17x pics.... reminds me of clothes and stuff I had when I was 6. :p

@ importjunkyAhh, gotcha, Yea we have a few toughbooks here at work with that. Drive me crazy. Only laptop I've seen that turns the NUMLOCK on upon startup. Messes me up on login everytime. Agreed though, that would be nice on the M11x. Thats one of the reason I like 17" laptops.

Anyone else having sleep issues? Frequently I put mine to sleep and then close the lid with the lid sensor/switch set to "do nothing." Often the keyboard and speaker lights never go off. I open it up and it doesn't respond to the power button (set as the sleep/wake button). I have to hold it to force it off and then boot again. I think it's related to closing the lid before it fully enters sleep but I can't reproduce it on purpose, despite it happening often during regular use. I didn't catch it the first time and it ran completely dead inside my tank bag. It was burning hot too. I hope it didn't hurt the battery.

    just curious

what was the space of your M11X HDD ( if 500gb ) came with?

because it's funny that almost every M11X have a different Space

i have 2 of my WoW friends that just unboxed their M11X tonight, one of them are with 419gb out of the 500gb and one of them was 425gb, and i got mine for 419gb as well, the 419 gb with additional bluetooh which i believe it's not the reason

so, is this supposed to be an issue, or it's just a different Country gets a different HDD space out of their new M11X?

    thanks!

There are a few different ways that they vary. One is actual manufacturing variance where some drives in the same series have more or less capacity, but the minimum advertised amount is still supposedly there. Another is supplier/part variance. There's no guarantee that they even used the same brand of 500GB drive. Another is in the way they are measured (1GB=1 billion bytes vs. 1GB=1,024MB=1,048,576KB=1,073,741,824 bytes). HDD manufacturers always give the first measurment, operating systems always report the other one. Another is the formatted capacities, which will always be lower due to the filesystem using some of the disk's storage capacity itself. Yet another which I consider likely is that your reports could be reporting different things. One person could be reporting the total formatted capacity while another is reporting the formatted free space remaining.

I had an IBM 60GXP that was 61.5 billion bytes and my friend had one that was 60.0 billion bytes. Both were supposedly "60GB" the way HDD manufacturers measure it but that's actually less than 56GB according to the OS. The 60GXP was a failure-prone drive and I wouldn't doubt that they reallocated all extra capacity to become spare sectors for SMART in drives manufactured after mine.

But I don't think that's what leads to the variance you report. Either they are different drives (Dell doesn't even have to use the same brand) or some are reporting formatted capacity remaining versus total formatted capacity.

I got my M11X two days ago and I love it, but I have one problem. I bought Left 4 Dead 2 from Steam and it says it can't find my video card. I installed the new NVIDIA drivers, which was a huge mistake, so I reinstalled Dell's.

Did anyone else have this problem?

I was not being short. The M11x does not have the ability regardless if you could write script. It can only be one color unlike the other Alienwares which have the ability to have multi-color designations.

Ya it does. Just realize once you firmly press it in, if you try to remove it it will not be possible to stick back on. The faq at their website states that when you decide to take it off it does not leave a residue behind.
