I'm a bit wary about the FPS you'd be getting on a 25man ICC raid - just finished the first 4 bosses in ICC 10 (had to be called early though) and I was averaging 25-30fps during boss fights, dipped down to 18 at the lowest though for just a couple of seconds. : /

well computers in a million pieces here but hes gettin the job done there seem have something inside the thing cracked
-
Yes, it doesn't crash when you don't install the proprietary drivers. However, it's currently giving me the same estimated battery life times (3 hours ~20 minutes) whether it's on switchable or discrete. I've heard of some of these switchable gpus being both on by default when you don't have a driver to tell one of them to shut off. I'll have to run powertop on it tonight and take a look and see what's hogging the power.
-
Well guy came out the hinge now feels a lot more solid so we will hope for the best now feels good tho happy with service overall!
-
Did he fix the hinge or did he replace it?
-
He had to replace the whole screen and that consist of the all the plastic above keyboard and the back plastic where power plug is
-
looks like I will be doing the same as u once I get mine (and kernel RC) - thanks for the tip!
ouch!
well then, I look forward to any updates u can give on either issue!
well, I tried to PM u, and it says I dont have access to that
I think I am too new of a member to PM or something... would u purrty please send me (or post) a copy of "lspci -vk" and "dmesg" output =)
glad to see another backtracker here! I will definately be putting BT4final to use on this lappy as well - if BT4 is working with it, would u mind posting the output for the network card (dmesg/lspci) from BT4, pulllleeaase? I fully understand if u do not have the time =) thanks for all the help so far! -
That might be it. I'll add a reminder to my calendar. I'll make a M11x linux topic once I get that info. (Not sure if I should make it here or in Side Topics)
Yeah, I can add that too. I'll probably be using BT4 more than ubuntu right now and getting everything working, especially the CUDA stuff. -
Crazy. Reminds me of getting a latch fixed on a thinkpad tablet and them having to totally take apart the screen. Hopefully it'll hold up. Mine also clicks a bit when you open it far enough. Makes me slightly paranoid that the hinge will break.

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
dang it too much to follow, can't believe theres a part 4 now. I haven't been keeping up because I've delay my order on the m11x. Sorry to ask this question if its already been answered or asked multiple times. Is there a comparison between a m11x with SU7300 and SU4100? Since I missed out on coupons, I'd like to save as much as possible. oh yeah one more dumb question, the cpu isn't soldered on right? so if anything I can upgrade in the future?
-
Anyone know of a good portable external blu ray drive for this thing? No rush my edd is the 30th
Thanks. -
It is soldered on, you cannot upgrade. The only difference between CPUs is the hardware virtualization support, you dont need it if you dont run virtualization. both chips oc.
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
and that one is 1mb more of cache which apply to what kind of application?
how are they both benchmark with games? -
Not the only difference - the SU7300 also has an additional 1MB of built-in cache for 3MB total vs 2MB.
-
Does anyone know if you order 2gb of RAM whether it comes as 1 stick or a pair of 1gb sticks?
-
The latter.
-
LOL So my hinge is fixed right? yea it is but now the new screen i got has this like extra bright white spot this is ridiculous I'm probably going to just send it back.......... i wish i would of seen this while the guy was still here
-
damn.. from the new lcd? or what? that blows.. it's still really new also.. dang >_>
-
well, i meant from a end-user standpoint. The extra cache doesn't seem to make a truly measurable difference in games or applications. I didn't really specify that though.
performance-wise, there is no difference aside from the VT support. -
pic? I'm curious to see what you're talking about.... also please size it appropriately for the forum
-
It seems it's just another dead pixel or rather "malfunctioning" pixel.
I think it's still not that usually to come by those, just ask to get another...
-
If anyone has access to BC2, will you tell us how it runs on the full retail version in multiplayer?
That's the one game I'm looking forward to playing on my M11x, but am afraid it won't run well considering my desktop was struggling in beta. -
I can only assume that the extra 1MB of cache will help some applications. But only a side-by-side test will be able to determine that. Still that extra bit of cache has to improve performance, even if only a little bit.
-
20-30 points in 3dmark 06 is what people are seeing, which is like... maybe 1-2fps at best in certain apps/games.... just not worth it unless you have stacking coupons.
-
I got the CPU upgrade simply because it wasn't optional in AU at the time - And VT could be useful to me. I think it's worth it if you intend to overclock since we know the SU7300 is stable at those clocks.

Anyone pick up the 11x Portfolio Binder Case yet? Looking for something that protects the m11x during transport in my backpack and that seems to fit the bill at this time. All the other sleeves look mediocre. I'm also considering this, but the alienware might be too thick for it.

the SU4100 is stable at OC as well.
-
I'm not sure what kind of defect that is. Is it as big as a pixel? If so, it's just stuck and not dead. It looks a little bigger than a pixel, though... maybe it's missing a pixel and that's the backlight showing.
-
What's worth it depends on what games you're running. If you're on the edge with a game running between 25-28 FPS, those extra few FPS could make the difference between smooth game play or not.
-
1MB L2 cache has been shown to help ~5FPS in games as well.
-
Better
You can carry your accessories in a case not much larger:

I love ya mate
. Hell... Its about time!
-
I saw that earlier in the thread, but it looks more like a dedicated carrying solution. I'm looking for something that I can use to put inside my existing backpack. -
I think I'm set on getting the 12-13" Built NY sleeve. I like the look of it, plus it can go in my bag as well.
-
WoW now i am officially an owner to m11x ..finally!!
I no i am late.. cant wait to get mine. -
Your late? I think I'm late to the party. By the time I show up everyone will be gone
lol.
-
On the topic of matte screen protectors for these.. Ebay has this http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Alienware-M11X-11.6%22--EXiM-Screen-Protector_W0QQitemZ250586295210QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20100226?IMSfp=TL100226153018r34034
It's advertised as "specifically cut" for the m11x, which I'm assuming means it'll cover the e2e display, but the company's website looks new as they don't have product listings yet, and it ships from Hong Kong. I'd really like to get something to cut down on the glare factor.. -
I still have two weeks left, by the time I get mine the new revision will be out (Not to mention everyone that ordered after me will have theirs already before I get mine, so it would seem).
-
I dont see any mention of anti-glare on that?? Just says scratch-resistant...
EDIT: Never mind, its a tiny little blurb isn't it? lol
EDIT2: Bummer I was actually about to order one of these, but it seems every negative reply indicates some sort of issue, and seller never would reply to e-mail... On a brand new product like this if it doesn't actually completely cover the screen it sounds like you'd be stuck with it
-
It's okay Zlog. All of us 2/3 and 2/2 totally understand and will hang around later on into this owner lounge party -toot-
hell we might even have a sleep over in this thread o_o...
-
LOL - can we sit around in our PJs and talk about all the cute laptops that we have no chance of getting with?
-
oh yea. You know that m11x in accounting? total babe.. I might just press some keys.. and see if i can turn her on
>_>;.. okay i'm a little weirded out.
-
Yeah she's smokin when she does her lighting in purple and wears her skimpy cosmic black dress...
-
Hi I'm new...
Looking to ordering in my laptop tomorrow. Just few quick questions, if i order tmr (March 2), will I likely get it before my trip in mid April??
Does the fact that the battery charging can't turn off kill batteries nowadays? seems strange since a frd told me batteries nowadays are smarter and all stop charging when full (we were discussing Iphone 3GS)? is that true?
Also, i see it has HDMI port, if i connect it through HDMI to a HDTV, does it bring sound over as well or just video?
thanks!! -
oh sorry guys, on just a quick sidenote... my main computer went #@$@% today... it started just turning off and restarting by itself on me. ever happen to anyone else? i'm guessing some sort of virus?
-
I've never used bluetooth before but is it normal that when I turn off Wi-Fi it also disables the Bluetooth as well?Doesn't make sense to me.
-
normal, same thing with my HP HDX dragon.
-
If it's a fully-spec'd HDMI port (and it should be), then yes it will transfer both audio and video.
-
Dude I was talkin to that M11X. She got totally turned on and you should have seen the way her face lit up!
