Mine is still OK. Rattles a bit if you shake it without supporting the screen/lid.

Have an NZ advert on TV that says NEVER shake a baby.
So I'm guessing that goes for notebooks too. :)

I noticed mine is doing the same thing. It leaves faint vertical lines that can be wiped off.

What exactly do you mean by 2 inches of play in the hinges? Can you post a video perhaps?

I replied in another thread, but no problem to use a higher wattage Dell AC adapter on the M11x.

i'm having small chips show up on my plastic screen that can't wipe off and dust under the screen also. I'll just let it build up for a while longer and then get warranty service..

I have the nicks from the keyboard too. A Dell technician is coming to swap my LCD today, because of them. I have an anti-glare filter ready, to put on the screen after it is replaced.

I considered that. But, I commute to work on the bus. An hour in each direction. Sometimes the glare drives me nuts. I figure I'll kill two birds with one stone by putting the glare-filter on.

With the anti glare on you still might get key prints on the filter then.

I'm ok with that. I will be happy with the ability to pull it off and put a new one on when it gets too scratched. I take my M11x everywhere. If the keyboard doesn't scratch it, something else will. I am also getting the invisible shield for the top lid.

Do you think there are any chance that they will increase the screen size 13'' but keeping the same footprint for the m11x refresh?

the m11x(from pictures) seem to have quite a big bezel. the extra screen estate would be just as a desired upgrade as the i7 option, IMO:=)

i just got my m11x, and i noticed that there was a white pixel in the top left corner. especially when i have it on the desktop. However, its not a dead pixel. I flipped the screen and it shows up in the bottom right. any ideas?

what happens when you rotate the screen to 90 degrees?

At least your screen cover is staying put. Mine really isn't that bad, but I don't want it to get worse. I actually noticed the hinge issue after ordering my Zagg Invisible Shield. Now the shield is sitting next to my desk at work and I don't want to put it on. I'm planning on sending the unit back once the R2 comes out. Take my chances and maybe they will just replace instead of fix. Was looking forward to seeing out the invisible shield looked. Oh well, another time.

I bought one of those for my iPhone but never put it on because it seemed so complicated and I figured I'll most likely mess it up. Now I really want something to protect the m11x when I get it but I'm not sure if I should give the shield another try. I read online that some retail locations apply them for you. Know anything about that? If not, is it easy to do yourself?

Yea, the Invisible Shield is pretty great. I put one on my iPod 3G clickwheel, my iPod Nano (one without the camera) and on my Kindle DX. I really like them. The vendors will install it. It takes time, clean environment and a lot of patience. If you have a vendor at them mall I would take it to them if you don't want to do it. Might be able to find one near you on Zaggs website. Where I'm at (when I'm home) they have a Kiosk at the mall.

hello, new member to notebookreview, long term lurker, and new owner of m11x :)
I just got my m11x.. spec'd at Core2duo, 8gb ram, 500gb hd. I think I received a great machine, and I'm happy with it... Screen has no dead pixels, hinge work well, no BSODS when OCing and playing Crysis... and fan is ultra quiet.

However, one thing that really bothers me is the hard drive's vibration. It emits a really low frequency noise that i can hear if its a quiet room, and I can literally feel it in my two palms when I rest my hands.

Is this enough for Alienware to replace (the HD that is) I know its the HD for sure, because it comes from that area, and the fan (for now) is really quiet.

    I guess i could try servicing it myself...(maybe even going SSD..although money is tight :p ) But I hit a roadblock .

The part after "Loosen the two capative screws confuse me. The two holding down the cage... can they be seperated from the laptop? Just hesitant at pulling the hd too hard, and snapping something.

    Thanks for advice.

it's a thin machine, and the hard drives are 7200 RPM.

    Therefore you'll feel vibrations.

You can do what I did and go SSD - no vibrations, no heat, no problems.

I did install a 64GB Kingston SSD. It was fast and slick with no problems about the two screws. Just and only just take your time and relax. Handle this baby with ease. :)

thanks for all the feedback so far.. maybe I am too picky about the vibrations :) ... I am still gonna try replacing it with another 7200 rpm hd I have lying around from another laptop (its a 320gb by WD)

For taking the HD out... I still can't see how the cage seperates from the body. Do the captive screws prevent it from this happening? Maybe I am totally missing a step, but the screws only loosen and do not seperate. I can't get the hd to lift from the assembly, as per Step 4 in the manual

spinning platers = vibrations, especially if moving the machine with centrifugal force causing grinding noises of the platter.

Alright.. I think I was a bit too paranoid about pulling too hard.. Its my new baby, so I wanted to be extra careful :) Sorry about that

Got my HD out and its definetly the HD thats vibrating more than it should. I compared it with a WD Scorpio Blue 7200 RPM I have in another laptop, and there is nearly not as much vibration from that one.

The vibration is only really noticeable when I put the laptop on a flat surface like a desk.. For some reason, if i use it on my lap, its barely noticeable.

Other than that, I'm so happy with my m11x! WOOT!

So I just got my m11x and by far it is exceptional! I do have a question about the screen. I'm using the computer in a dimly lit room and I still get insane glare to the point where it hurts my eyes. Is this normal? haha. Also the screen doesn't appear very bright.

Verify your brightness is set to max with the function keys. I find that on rare occasion, sometimes moving from battery to AC does not always set the display to full brightness. Happens on both my systems. Just a thought. As for glare under low light, I haven't noticed it. The 11x, 15x and 17x all have the pastic covering so there will always be some glare.

The Black is a fingerprint nightmare, wish I went with the lunar gray now. The glossy black finish also scratches extremely easy. I wonder if the lunar gray finish is more durable

Will have to wait for official word from the Dell/Alienware rep. It could be a typo that the i7 was omitted.
