My biggest fear about M11X is that the 11'' screen is simply to small to do stuff with, for hours.

Also the keyboard.. it says the keyboard is almost full sized, but would one really be able to do some cruching, and fast typing with some adjustment when learning the system?

yeah, I want to game on it if I got it, but I also wanted to use it for other stuff!

@luffytubby, you can always use external peripherals like a mouse keyboard and monitor.

Why? Thats why it's a busniess, to keep the money flowing in. Everyone knew the R2 was coming for months, even right after the R1 was released. It wouldn't be a business if you had a one time customer and continually gave them the lastest tech. Thats why they offer the buy back option. Thats the nature of the tech industry. It's constantly changing, and if you want to always have the new stuff, then you better have deep pockets and a little patience.

Hey, DR650SE, can I send my m11x back to Dell for a partial refund and pick up the refreshed version? Does it matter that I bought this version in Malaysia and am sending it to Dell NZ?

Probably not. I noticed they started offering the buy back deal when I ordered my M17x. If you really want the R2, then your best bet is to sell off the R1, and put the money toward the R2.

Alright. Hard to sell this now since all the people I know consist of poor unemployed college kids who aren't even willing to pay $10 for a new t-shirt... Maybe I'll wait lol. Pity the soft-touch finish isn't there yet.

I just received my m11x yesterday. Can I still exchange it for an m11x r2 with no restocking fee? I'm in US.

EDIT: Welp, I'm very satisfied with the speed of this machine and I'll have until the 21 return policy is over to decide.

Hmm...so I've been deciding on whether or not to sell my r1. If I get a R2 and don't like it I can always send it back right? I'm worried that the R2 I get, if i do get it, won't be flawless like my current r1. but I just want that extra i7 oomph.

I'm not that convinced the i7UM will be that much better.. I mean I know the CPU is already the bottleneck, so anything better will def help FPS, but I dunno.. I'm sure with it overclocked it'll be nice.. but you'll be paying for it.

*edit* I mean.. I would still love to have one.. but it's like starting $1150 base, right?

hmmmm i wouldnt mind that along with all the other new stuff, but its just not worth the $200-300 to upgrade to the new ones from mine. i think the i5 is actually going to be slower in everyday situations until the computer thinks its time to overclock

So are the new core i7 and i5 m11x laptops really that much better in actual gameplay? I really enjoy the performance on my current version... Even GTA4 plays good enough to me, especially compared to the MacBook Pro 13" that I came from. Will the performance increase equal the same or better battery performance that we currently get?

I have to agree. The M11X is a great machine and runs games like COD MW2 with no issues but I find most games are more difficult to play with the smaller keys and screen size. I am one of those idiots who are always upgrading to get the latest and greatest but I am not sure if I will pull the trigger on the R2 version. If I get the R2 version the same config as my R1 it's going to cost around $1750 CAD (with i7, warranty +taxes) without any discounts. I got my R1 45 days ago for less than $1200 (with warranty taxes). Even if I was able to get away with a heavily discounted R2 I don't know if it is worth the money as it is not my primary laptop. It's really a glorified netbook that can ran COD for me.

    Spiff

P.S. Life would sure be cheaper for me if I would just learn how to use a damned Xbox controller as opposed to a mouse and key board :)

    Question for the Canadians:

-Are there any retailers in Canada (futureshop/ bestbuy) that carry Alienware; so i can get a feel of the screen size, and

-If I order a m11x and the screen is too small for me can I return it/ exchange it?

    Thanks in advance.

I would probably go for a 12 (bright) inch screen but as it is the 11 inch will do. As for the diffrence of having a I7 chip vs a su4100 what still matters the most for me is the small size and battery life, with a game every once in a while.

Most of the time about 70% I find that am using the intel gaphic card. Speed is sometimes not as important than battery life, but still want someting faster than a netbook.

Just got the M11x, and I was wondering why my fps is so low when I play Counter Strike 1.6. I'm running on overclock and am in high performance mode. My rates are fine as well 101, 101, 25000 with fps_max 101. The game play is somewhat choppy, I'm getting about 30-40ish fps. Anyone suggestions?

did you check if your gpu is on? FN+ F6 will turn it on. even if you're at high performance mode, the graphics switch wont happen unless you specifically edit the settings for high performance mode.

Weirdest thing with my m11x. While browseing the web it sometimes freezes. I don't know why because I don't have it OC when I'm web browsing and it's well cooled. Even have a fan nearby when I'm at home.

don't bother with patches... look into a "mini-iso" for each of your games. that all i use... if you can find them, they're a little bit more work every time, but you still have MP, etc... :D

I'm waiting for my new m11x to arrive (can't wait). But I ordered the smallest HDD with my intention to install a SSD myself. Since there is no opitical drive and I'm aware of the restore on the current HHD. Is there a forum link that is that has a step-by-step have how I can have everything restored to the new SSD?? Keep in mind I didn't get the dell online backup. Thanks in advance.

first of all, i don't think you need all official crap from default installation, so i recommend to make clean install and getting all the drivers from dell page. but if you still want to have everything from factory installation, you can use acronis true image to clone your hdd data (all partitions, boot records etc.) to your new SSD.

no! i insist to make a clean install and forget about all default crap :)

How would I obtain windows 7?? Since dell provides me with a copy...should I just get an OEM version and use the key that dell provides??

Also..for software..I would just need the Alienware FX correct??

Sorry to be such a noob but this is my first "real" machine I've ever bought. I've always build my own.

**Edit** I think I found it...

I have a couple questions and i am a noob to this so go easy on me. Ok so right now I have a 15" POS Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use as a desktop replacement. I dont play any games on it because frankly i cant. I am a hs student and I use my pc just to browse the web, and do some word documents/excel. However I would LOVE to play games on it, its just that I have never been able to I am going to get an M11x. It was that or a MBP 13", but I decided M11x was way cooler  But... I have a few questions regarding the setup of the m11x. I want to stay in the sub $1600 price range, maybe $1800 if it is really worth it.

1st: I am prob going to get a core i7, but i wonder if it will overheat the laptop and damage it in any way. Will it?

2nd: I am deciding between the 4gb memory or the 8 gb. I intend to play games on it, mostly fps titles (MW2, Bad Company 2). Will the 4 gb be fine to run games? or is the 8gb be the only way to go. How much of a difference will it make in performance, if at all?

3rd: is the solid state drive worth it? What does the ssd do that is so good, besides decrease your boot times? And whatever it does, is it worth the enormous jump in price?? If i dont go ssd, could i upgrade to it in the future or have somebody upgrade it for me? If yes, would it be easy to transfer all of my files and such?

4th: If i dont get the ssd, should i get the 500gb HDD? I dont have that many things that I plan to be on it, maybe a few movies, like at the most 5 games, and the previously mentioned excel/word files. How much space will that take?

5th: How would you build yours if you had 1600-1800 price range?

Thanks for your help guys and excuse me if i did anything wrong i am new to this whole forum posting thing. I really appreciate any answers

I received the R1 M11x on Friday, I got a good price for Canada. If the i7 benchmarks turn out to be a nice improvement I'll likely return this one and get a i7. However, for now it is doing a great job.

Here is a picture of my M11x and the Razer Orochi.

I really find it pretty good. It's not too small but takes some getting use to. I prefer the comfort and feel of my Logitech VX Revolution but that has more to do with my preference for right handed mice, the ambidextrous ones aren't as comfortable to me.

The Oricho has much better response than the VX Rev though and performs extremely well in bluetooth mode in gaming sessions like Crysis and Team Fortress 2.

I honestly think I could design a better mouse by tweaking the Orochi design, but I doubt anyone would build it. The Orochi is almost the perfect portable mouse, overall it is every bit as good as my VX Rev.
