I enabled overclocking and it helped with performance somewhat. BC2 still hovered around 17 FPS online. It helped much more in Dragon Age. Except when I'm around a bunch of NPCs. I'm going to make a restore point and install 263.08 right now. Thanks. Hopefully that gives a little bit more performance.

It should. If you really wnt to, you can OC the GPU as well. Helps in alot of games. BC2 runs pretty bad on all R1's, except for the pinmodded ones like mine.
-
Edit: I didn't have the computer switched to GPU. Haha. -
Did the same thing the first time I installed drivers on this R1.

So, my M11X R1 is getting poor performance in All Points Bulletin.
I'm getting about 21 FPS with Overclocking on. -
Everyone has been very helpful with my questions! I appreciate it very much! I'm lovin' my R1 so far! -
I don't think it takes much resources at all, but I may be wrong. I don't have a slideshow backround, so I don't know.
-
So, I'm just wondering how many people leave their M11x in overclock. I only enable it when I'm about to game and disable it after. I'd like to just leave it in overclock but I'm afraid it's going to overheat or something equally bad.
-
Nah, I leave mine in OC 24x7. No issues at all.
-
-
Well I'm sold. I'm gunna just leave it overclocked. Thanks guys!

Welp, got my R3 today and this thing is so. freaking. awesome. It is just adorable. There's no other word for it, it's downright cute. I am just in love with this little baby. It feels a little extraneous since I already have a powerful gaming laptop, but since it isn't really portable at all I think I'll still get lots of use out of the M11x.
I gotta say, it's almost the little things that I love the most. Like messing with the backlighting is SO much fun! And the personalized nameplate with my handle, 'kaworu', etched into it. I *love* that so much. Gives me this wonderful sense of ownership :3333 -
no matter how many pictures, how many videos you watch of the m11x, the feeling is never the same as owning one of this little beasts =)
simply amazing! have fun! -
Do ya'll think the R1 will be able to run Duke Nukem Forever? I ran a test on Can You Run It? and it says I don't even meet the minimum requirements. I don't think it's properly identifying some components though. The game definitely doesn't have amazing graphics so I figure I will be able to run it.
-
I can't see why the M11x couldn't run Duke Nukem? Maybe not at full settings, but medium should give it no problems

Hey guys, question about My M11x R3.
Ok, so the LCD panel that I have in mine is an AUO305C - is this normal for the R3? I thought the standard AUO panel for the M11x was an AUO105C or something similar. I have to say, once I put in a proper ICC profile, it's just been looking incredibly gorgeous. Even the viewing angles are way, way better than advertised - look at it from the sides or from the top, it really doesn't seem that much worse than straight-on at a perfect angle. Again, this was surprising to me, especially given what I saw in the notebookcheck review.
And when it's at a perfect angle, it really looks gorgeous - sharp, colorful, with rich blacks, strong contrast, and great balance overall. The color transitions especially are impressive. I work as a graphic designer in part, and I also do large-scale prints for in-store retail displays. So I do a lot of color correction on extremely high quality desktop monitors at work, in strictly controlled environments in terms of lighting, so I'm very conscious of this sort of thing. I've seen a lot of really mediocre laptop screens with really common, annoying issues, and so I was not expecting a great deal out of the M11x particularly after hearing some of the complaints - so I was really very surprised. Especially when I heard that the Samsung screen is supposedly even better! I find that difficult to believe - that must be a comparison between the AUO105C and the Samsung, right? Not the AUO305C. -
Hey, I'm due to receive my m11x R1 today. It was cheap and I'm not looking for the world's best performance, but I still have a few questions.
1. Is there any downside to overclocking the SU7300 to 1.73Ghz straight away? I plan on switching it up in the BIOS and just leaving it like that forever, but obviously won't if there are drawbacks. Actually reading through some of the recent posts I think my question is already answered
2. Is it worth switching between graphics cards all the time? 75%+ of the usage of this laptop will be gaming whilst plugged in, can I just leave it on the 335M permanently? I understand it will use more power...
3. Is there much graphics optimisation that needs to be done, or is it going to be plug and play?
4. Will it have the latest drivers installed?
Thanks if you have chance to reply. (I have also posted this in the technical questions topic, so sorry if you're re-reading it!) -
1. I left the BIOS OC enabled all times, I just know that AW supports OC with the warranty so thats OK
2. I think I use mine just as you say 75% with nvidia turned on, no problems as well here
3. I just plugged and play lol
4. Just update the nvidia driver from the latest from dell, for the switchable graphics to work, if you update from nvidia you can't switch between intel and nvidia graphics
Drivers & Downloads
I hope that helps, enjoy gaming =D -
1. I was the guy asking those recent questions. I've had my overclocked a few days now and it's fine. I definitely get better FPS in games.
2. You might as well change the graphics to discrete and download the latest Nvidia drivers. If you do this though you'll never be able to go back to switchable graphics. Unless you do a system restore or something similar.
3. I got mine a few weeks ago and I was able to play right out of the box. I did do some optimization like what I said above. I also managed the start up programs.
4. No clue. My M11x R1 was a refurbished unit. I didn't have the latest hybrid drivers. Hybrid drivers allow the computer to switch between CPU and GPU. Those are found on dell's website. If you take the newest drivers from Nvidia that will disable the switchable feature but you might get better performance. -

Thanks a lot guys
Can't wait to get home and get it fired up... 1 hour 10 minutes of work to go! -

I just installed 263.08, A02 and I have not been able to play Mass Effect 2 due to PhysX error, is this a bug or my installation is messed up?
-
what does the error say? -
just curious, i have 82 processes on my m11x, if i get rid of some, can i improve overall performance?
Which ones are not needed? Sorry, i am a newb -
type msconfig in the run/start bar
under startup, and services uncheck everything except for MSservices, AV, video, sound, touchpad, and blutooth -

I've heard that upgrading to the newest nvidia drivers can increase performance with some games pretty significantly, but it requires you to set it to discrete graphics card only in the bios. I was just wondering if it's really worth it to do that if I'm not using it as a gaming machine primarily. I enjoy the 4-5 hours I get with my R1 using the integrated card and being able to switch it to discrete whenever I want, but at the same time I wish it had a little bit better performance in some games. How much battery life would I lose by doing this? Would it go from 4-5 down to 2-3 if I'm lucky and using it for browsing/music playing when on battery?

I carry my R2 around with me every day at work. Up, down, over here, over there. It rarely sits in one place more than an hour unless I'm AFK or at home. Never once had a lockup due to moving it about with FF protection enabled.
-
it helps boot times a hell of a lot. with a standard 5400rpm drive i boot in 37 seconds.
i dont use antivirus either, its more trouble then its worth. -
Dropped my M11xR1 twice from approx 3' onto carpet.
I don't know who squealed loudest, me or the M11x.
The last time the M11x 'froze' and had to be physically powered off and on again. After both the M11x and I got over the shock of the fall, both of us were fine... probably more so the M11x then me.
Sometimes I swing my M11x around (don't ask why) just to hear it squeak.
The drop sensor has not impacted on performance in a way I've noticed. Did it's job when dropped and the rest of the time it's fine.
I'll be leaving the drop sensor on until I go SSD.
Now one year and two months old and still going strong. Still on the original monitor. -
I must say I'm very impressed with the R1, a great piece of kit for the money. The screen is a bit less vibrant than I'm used to (Mac) but it has replaced my old XPS nicely. Particularly impressed with the 335M GT, benchmarks suggested it was comparable to the old 7950 GTX I used to have, but actual in-game performance seems a lot better to me. It's definitely more stable and the operating temperatures are much better.
Still curious as a previous poster had asked, are the latest Nvidia drivers worth downloading? I'm not too bothered about sacrificing the Fn+F6 graphics switch, but if it's only for a minute or un-noticable performance gain then I probably won't bother. -
Lukekarts, I also came from a 7950GTX, and the performance is great! It was a good performance boost in most games, and MW2 can be played at all the highest settings at native res, not possible with the 7950.

Has anyone had trouble installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for 64-bit systems? It keeps failing. I've tried a few things to remedy the situation but no luck.
-
I did download the service pack before hand however instead of using the auto windows update download.
Perhaps try that if your update keeps failing.
You can also go into the C: drive Windows folder and delete everything that is in the Software Distribution folder. Restart and then try and run windows update again. It should clear it up and kinda make it start fresh.
Cheers. -

Warning though it can take like up to 1hour to fully install the SP1. Takes quite a long time.
After you install it you can then do another windows update check for newer updates that are newer and didn't make the SP1 package.

Worked great! Thanks!

Does anyone have trouble with logging into windows using a password? Sometimes I will type in the password and it just won't take it. Windows constantly says it is the wrong password, but I am clearly typing it in correctly. I will restart windows and it accepts the password...sometimes. It happens more often than I'd like. My brother says he has the same issue with his laptop every now and then. He runs 64-bit as well.

I hooked an HDMI from my M11x to my TV and hit the FN + F1. Nothing happened. I had to use the connect to external display option. Anybody have any ideas on how to get FN + F1 to work? I'm using the latest hybrid drivers. FN + F1 is just so convenient.
