I never use Fn+F1. My monitor is great, auto detects, I just set it so I can close the lid with it off and it auto changes to 1080p. :)

I've done that before with my older laptop, but I like being able to close my m11x so it goes into sleep. I don't want to change that setting every time I decide to hook up HDMI.

    1. Yes
    2. Yes, search the forums, you'll find it
    3. I would say all of them?
    4. No, they won't upgrade it.
    5. I think you mean will the warranty be void if you install other parts? No, but they won't cover those parts.
    6. You can leave it in OC mode and the temps are fine.
    7. No biggie.

    I love this laptop.

Hi guys im new to this forum
just got my m11x last week, so far so good.
but just wondering...im sure this has been answered before but just cant seem to find the thread...its about toaster.exe/alienrespawn
it seems that it auto starts when the laptop turns on, is there a way to disable that? i cant find it on the start up list in ccleaner....
i dont want to uninstall it cuz it seems kind of useful incase anything happens

So, does anyone know how the R3 compares to the R1? Is it a landslide? I've had my R1 for a month or so now but I keep thinking I need the R3 more. I got my R1 for $600. So, for $600 more basically I can get the R3. Anyone think it's worth it?

Depends. The R1 handles most games released before the last 6 months fine, but most newer games, like The Witcher 2, play like crap on the R1, since it needs more CPU power. The R2 fares better, but, the better GPU/CPU combo in the R3 make it alot better. Up to you. IF you have the cash, then maybe it's worth it.

if you pinmod your R1 you will get a lot more mileage out of it, I got mine up to 1.9ghz, makes a world of difference in all my games.

I'm not sure if I'm willing to get someone to pinmod it though. What if they mess it up? They're not going to pay for it. I'm certainly not going to try to do it. I'd definitely mess it up.

Pinmodding is not for the faint of heart, and if you don't think you can do it, don't. You most likely would bridge some pins.

if you have the right chip on your laptop all you have to do is cut a pin off it, and you are set, its not as hard as it sounds, just get a needle and cut it off, I have done it more than once. but if you really dont feel up to it, dont let me talk you into something you dont want to do, Im just saying its not as hard as it seems.

and if you get it done right, you have basically a new laptop. 1.9+ ghz vs 1.6ghz.

I want to do the same thing. A few screws on the underside of my R1 are stripped though. I had to exchange hard drives three times that day because it didn't clone it correctly. I'm kinda nervous about selling it.

From what I've read it's worth it. The battery lasts longer, the video card is 500 series instead of 300, optimus technology, and better CPU.

Anyone also try Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood on their R1?

I actually really enjoyed Assassin's Creed II even without playing the first Assassin's Creed.

I know Brotherhood uses the same engine as Assassin's Creed 2, but the thing was that for the R1, the game fluctuated from playable frame rates to near-slideshow depending on where you were (open environment TONS of npcs). Hoping Brotherhood has been optimized a little more.

All the AC games are worth playing. I think Brotherhood is the best because of the innovative multiplayer. They're all awesome games though. I definitely recommend them.

I made a short video of me playing GRID on my R1. I'm using the ultra high graphics mod and a mod to get rid of the yellow tint. I think I have the ground on high, the vehicle level of detail on ultra high, trees on low, drivers off, and multisampling on 4x. I don't remember any of the other settings. I get around 40 FPS with no other drivers around. If I'm in a huge group of cars I get around 30 FPS. The game looks stunning with the mods.

No you cant install 2 drives into a m11x. the closest thing you can do is get the mini pci slot for a sd card and put it in the wwan slot. Its not a bootable drive, just extra storage.

Otherwise you can install a ssd, then use a usb external hdd for storage.

I recently installed the beta driver 280.19 and I got a huge boost in Crysis 2 performance. I start college soon and would really like to keep the hybrid feature, but I have a question. When I start college, can I install the older hybrid drivers over the beta drivers? Or would I need to do a system restore/uninstall drivers?

Thanks kevmanw4301 rep to you sir!

I'm going to sell my R1 for a R2. I was searching on the Dell Outlet and the price for R2's has dropped significantly. Since Dell replaced the bottom door I no longer have a product key sticker on the bottom. I also would want to take out my 500gb hard drive and put in the 150gb it first came with. Is there anyway to install the 150gb with the Recovery partition intact? Would that even bother people if it was present or not? I'm just looking for advice on selling my R1. I also read a guide on here that gave advice on how to sell a laptop. Very helpful!

I had a question concerning the WWAN/Mini-PCIe slot thingamajig.

I remember coming across an article on here concerning it where an individual found a mini-PCIe to dual micro-SD card adapter or something similar, enabling more simple flash based storage.

Where is this thread or where can I find this adapter? O.O

    Thanks. :)

Ah, thanks anyway! Also, is it true that you have to have a WWAN card factory installed in order to have the proper antenna and connections for a WWAN card?

Yes kinda... some people were lucky when they got screen replacements that came with the antennas. But if you ordered with out the card then it didnt come with the antenna. But you can install your own pretty easy.

Gotcha! I'm probably going to end up getting the m-PCIe dual Micro-SD adapter. I theorize needing some extra storage for basic stuff, so I can use my SSD for games. ;) Thanks for the assistance.

I still get a freeze on occasion but its rare now that I use USB wifi. Rare enough that it might be something else entirely.

    Unrelated note:
I have been using rubber bumpers from dead systems to space my screen out a bit. Recently lost one so I removed the other to keep the tension equal on both hinges and now I have imprints on my screen from KB. Wipe right off and were faint (using kb cover) but figured it worth mentioning - spacing the screen away from kb works!

Hey guys, long time no see. I've been t busy playing with the 17x R2 lately and hanging out in that subforum.

But my R1 is still serving me well :D Like having the portability.

However, I'm glad I extended my warranty as it looks like it may need another screen replacement. The bottom of the screen is starting to spread again  But just poping in to say high. Have there been any cool mods lately? I saw a while back there was a pin mod, I attempted it but didn't have enough hands
