Hello, I was just wondering how is it possible to overclock the core speed to the stated maximum of 2.6 GHz. Even after setting the bus speed to 166 MHz, the max core speed I could achieve was 1.5 GHz with a x9 multiplier. Does the the turbospeed technology increase the multipliers based on the program running? If that is the case then is it impossible to o/c to 2.6 GHz manually?

    Thanks!

    x17 is max Turbo multiplier

The multiplier at any one time is automagicaly determined from several factors (heat, load, threads etc..)

    Hey guys,

I just received my M11x r2 last week. I haven't decided to install any games yet until I've moved everything from my desktop over. But one day at school, my friend gave me Need for Speed Carbon, so I though 'why not?'. But after setting all visuals on maximum and on high resolution, and tried to play the games, the game runs at horribly low frames, and there is also some delay... Is there anyone that can help?
I still want to play in highest resolution.. this is quite disappointing...

    Thanks

New eh... welcome to the experience :)

The R2 has two GPUs (1) an intel one integrated into the CPU, (2) the Nvidia 335M.
The integrated GPU is ok but not really for games, which you need to ustilise the Nvidia GPU.
If you do run games with the integrated GPU then they will run s l o w.

To enable the game to run with the Nvidia GPU you need to add it to a list. How you do this effectively depends on the driver version you have.

    So.. I would recommend
Read this thred on how to get the Nvidia GPU to work for a game

    Try these NVIDIA drivers out

it sounds like a video card enabling issue that i also had in the beginning. in youtube there is an excellent video about enabling video card for preferred games and applications. basically you add the game that you wanna play in to the list and also enable the run with graphics processor so you can just right click the game icon or application and make sure it runs with the graphics card. i hope this helps. search on youtube a little bit you will find it. i dont have the link sorry.

edit: your settings are going to be made at nvidia control panel. you can open it up by right clicking on the desktop and seleck nvidia control panel and you will see the list under "manage 3d settings" and you can enable "run with graphics processor" from "view" and it will give you the option to run anygame or application with graphics card when you right click on it. good luck.

    Thanks for your comments.

I've already tried that, setting the default GPU and all. At high resolution, it runs the same as low res, but for texture... :\

But then I tried right clicking and opening with the high performance graphics, and it works perfectly. So I think the problem is that optimus doesn't kick in, even when I set the default graphics to the high one...

as long as it works for you doesnt matter if you right click or not. optimus will get better eventually but meanwhile you will have to keep doing these adjustments on your own. optimus is an excellent idea but it will take little longer until it works flawlessly. give it some time. good that you found solution.

Hey all, I just received my M11x R2 about 2 weeks ago and am loving it. It seems pretty slow on startup, can't get it below 1 min 12 seconds...

The games on it run almost just as good as my overclocked AMD X3 3.5ghz though! It's awesome for running games.

I'm running Starcraft 2 on everything ULTRA, Blood Bowl, everything runs super smooth so far, just seems a little slower with day to day applications.

I have a question though, in my Nvidia Control Panel I can't seem to figure out how to REMOVE a game from my whitelist. My REMOVE button is always disabled/grayed out. I have Blood Bowl in my whitelist as "Use High Graphics Nvidia" GPU, but on my desktop shortcut, right clicking it says default "Integrated graphics". I've tried deleting the shortcut, recreating it, changing it back and forth from Nvidia control panel....nothing is working.

If I right click and tell it to use the Nvidia GPU, it uses it fine. That's why I want to remove it and add it again....can anyone help me?

Sweet. Hopefully the latest drivers for Nvidia will come out soon!

But.. I just installed WC3TFT this morning, and decided to DotA a bit, but I realized that, even when i opened with the high end graphics, it was still choppy. Any suggestions?

Hello guys, I would like to know how to clean my m11x r2 ( the top cover).

It looks like it absorbs my sweat..looking like i touched it with oily hands.

This isnt coming off with a simple swipe of a paper towel.

What do you guys use to clean it?

There are a couple threads on WC3, though I'm not sure if there's a solution (didn't read through the first one entirely, as I don't play it)

    From a potential M11x owner:

    I'm thinking of getting this with the i5-520UM and 4GB Dual Channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 X 2GB) and 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M.

    Would appreciate comments on:
    1) The processor I'm considering
    2) Should I go for it now? Any reason to wait for R3?
    3) Is it just me or have SSDs from Dell just not moved in price since Dec 2009?

    1. There are lots of threads on each processor separately and at least a few comparing them. Search will answer this question better than any one person :)
    2. Since no one knows when the R3 is coming and what will be changed, I don't think anyone can give a reason to wait.

All I use on any surface of the M11x is a dampened microfiber cloth. I wash the cloth once a week in a bowl mild dish soap and rinse it thoroughly. Keeps my softtouch finish, keys and screen looking pristine.

EDIT: And a search would have turned up a couple of threads on this very subject. It's like magic...

Should I be concerned about soft clicking coming from the HDD?

CrystalDiskInfo reports good health for what it's worth.

Also, HWMonitor reports battery wear levels ranging from -7 to -58% (i.e. higher charge capacities than design). Anyone else see this?

Hey guys, I've been doing a lot of researching, and I've been wanting to pull the trigger and decide on getting an m11x from Amazon or from Dell with a student discount that makes it about the same price. But the only thing making me turn away and just get an Asus U35Jc, is the horror stories of the hinges almost guaranteed to break.
Now, I know the U35Jc doesn't have nearly as powerful of a graphics card, but most claim that it can at least run TF2 on mid to high settings with 30-40fps, and even SC2 on mid settings.
So tell me, is the hinge problem so bad that it's a deal breaker? Should I get an m11x anyways, or wait or get something else? Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

I was worried about that. But if you read enough then you will see the problem is not as bad as some make it out to be. There are many many more happy gamers with no problems.

Anyone else have issues getting the BIOS password request screen to come up? I've enabled and set supervisor (and user) passwords and while I am asked for a password when getting into BIOS settings, it never comes up prior to loading Windows. Is there some other setting I'm haven't enabled?

Have also posted here in case this is clearer

Maaaan everybody must be so freakin happy with their m11r2's bc this thread is getting no questions at all. I didnt look here for easy 3 moths and there were only 3 more pages added :) thats is great considering that people have no problems with their machines. Mine is working over perfect can not be happier. It has some issues with Linux but I think it will get better. With the new Kernel they have already solved the sound card issue. Now next thing they have to work on is the Optimus.

Anyone else having issues with their Bluetooth?

Mine came with the standard Dell(TM) Wireless 365 Bluetooth 2.1. I have BT enabled in the bios. However, I can't find it in Windows!

I've got wireless connections enabled Fn+F3. I have a BT exchange folder in My Documents. When I go to Control Panel/Devices and Printers/right click on laptop/click on Bluetooth settings nothing visible happens. In Device Manager the only highlighted issue is the ATITool Driver - there're no unknown devices.

    Any ideas?

There has been a few threads about the quality of the r2 referbs recently and people deciding to go r1 new or referb, there have been great deals on both.

I was one of them on the fence, well I just got the r2 today and its in perfect condition, besides the green certified referb sticker on the bottom it could pass for brand new.

Maybe I just got lucky and I can only speak to the unit I received, but there's not a mark on it, even has some of the pull off protective plastic coating on some parts of the shell.

This is a bad little machine I must say, but everybody here already knows that, lol.

Your experiences with refurbs matches my experiences as well - the refurbs are in such good condition, that you cannot tell that it is not brand new.

Just wanted to say hello and ask a question. I have been reading post on here for a few days. I need a new notebook my Asus eee 1000HE has started having issues. I was on the fence about what to get then saw the M11x r1 on amazon and really liked it. But some of the problems that people were posting about it kept me on the fence.

Reading post on here eased my mind thank you for all the info you guys provide. So I have a new M11x r2 on order from dell a matter of fact it says the build started today.

Anyhow now the question. Anyone buy one of these little devils to use like a netbook no real hard gaming,no big time modding just run mostly out the box just because it is a cool little machine?

I'm hoping I'm not the odd man out. :D

Do you guy's m11x sit flat on a table? Mine isn't flat by just the smallest amount for it to be noticeable but its not super annoying.

Should I complain about this and get them to replace the bottom or is a small amount of not flatness acceptable?

That usually means one of the screws in the bottom access plate isn't seated properly. If you find that's the case then very carefully unscrew it and then screw it back in making sure that it's going in straight. You don't want to strip any threads.

That's exactly why I got one of these, just because it packs so much into a small form factor. Probably the only significant modding if you can call it that is OC'ing the processor in the BIOS and the use of Throttlestop - look it up. I can unreservedly say it flies through all daily mundane tasks and has a great battery to boot.

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering if I was the only one that picked up one of these thats is not a gamer. I might throw a RC flight sim on it but not much more. For gaming we have a wii and a Xbox with Kinect. I would like to watch movies with my mobile again. My asus can do this but gets choppy at times and hooking it a monitor even a 23" one just makes it worse. I just hope opimius does not give me issues.

I have to say and I hope it does not show the kid in me but that stealthy shape and all those lights kind of hooked me.LOL

The wife and I both ordered new computers she got a 14" hp envy and it came this morn. I thought about getting the same but thought is was a little too big looking at hers now I know it is but it is a nice laptop.

As for my m11x it is in production phase as of yesterday. Est. delivery is the 1st. I just got the i5 so it would be a little future proof. 4g ram because I'll never use that much and bluetooth because I have used it on my asus. So nothing to fancy.

Oh sorry mods for posting my thread in the wrong place my bad.

    Thanks
    Chris

Wife just got her 14" hp envy with a i5 460m and it shows 4 windows for cpu like yours. Don't know if that helps as it is a little different than the i5 520um in the M11X.
