Going to bed if there is any input on whether I can just use the A04 BIOS from dell website or if I need a special vbios would be appreciated for the morning for when I try to recover

OK going to sleep for real if someone could help me and provide the proper .fd file that would be awesome

And proper efi name... wish I had a spare comp but I can download the file onto my phone and then quickly transfer it using neighbors comp to my flash drive

could possibly work, would need to extract the m11x bios and throw it on a properly formatted flash drive, and try a different combo of keys to get it to work.
my hp mini 311 was (win) +B keys.

    no guarantees on this tho.

edit: is this what you might be needing? MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

extracted the bios myself and uploaded ( A04 ) maybe DavyGt can help with the EFI name, i dont have an R2 so i cant get it for you.

That is the .fd file that is needed however IDKHE101 hadn't had success using it. The recovery filename is NAP10X64.fd according to Phoenix tool.

I'm not too sure what the key combination for the flash mode is. Some say "u", "f", "Windows + B", "Fn+Escape", "all arrow keys".

well were going to need to experiment, if we can manage to recover from the brick, we can make a recovery guide for the R2.

sera let me test it out first because i already have the recovery USB and it takes just a few seconds for me to get back to square one in case the bios does soft bricks... actually davy do you have a gchat we can talk over so that we can just IM each other and I can keep testing and when we got a working bios you can post it here?

PM me your email if you do.

Ok, this post is consolidated for both R1, R2 and R3 users.
Here is the R2 of the modded BIOS. Just double click and run once extracted. It increases voltage from .9v to .95v.
R1 version here Same increases as the R2 version.
Here is the R3 version. It extends voltage from .98v to 1v.

All BIOS files are tested working, so flash and it's done.

Lol. I don't take donations, only rep after the job is done.

    EDIT: SUCCESS

I can confirm this does not change the LP3D and 2D voltages. They both stay at .8v and .85v.
    No fumes.

Disappointing to hear that it can't go to 1V, but .95V is plenty :)
Very interested in hearing whether it is possible to OC some more with the new voltage, as I'm not even stable at 500/1200/900

This is sounding promising, I am very interested in trying this out!

Please post temperature differences too, if possible. I'm curious as to whether I should even bother, since I don't tend to use my system on a flat surface.

    Also, you guys are awesome.

after a few preliminary test... my max core freq clock went up by about 30 mhz, and my shaders clock by about 15... a nice little boost :)

so far I have completed a 3dmark06 with 615/1500/948 I think I can push it a little further but I will try that another day. My score was 9020ish I will take a screen shot when I find my absolute maximum and post it on the forums.

P.S. temps did not go past 77C

I haven't started. I better do that now.

Tassdar898's overclock is the largest seen on an R2.

Great, we now have over 9000 points. Think we can push it to 10k?

There is an airflow bottleneck on the M11x. Use my bottlecap trick to improve temps, which is just getting 4 bottlecaps and placing them at the feet of the M11x.

My temperatures before the mod: 70C
    [IMG]

My temperatures after the mod: 73C
    [IMG]

After the bottlecap trick with VBIOS mod: 65C
    [IMG]

I'm happy with the results I'm getting so far. I broken through the 1150-1200mhz shader instability wall on my crappy 335.

This does not help us M11x bods, but on my ATI desktop card, using GPU-Z you can 'read' and save the current GPU BIOS to disk.

This is located as a GPU icon on the BIOS Version line of GPU-Z

For me this doesn't appear possible on the M11x with either Intel or Nvidia GT 335M GPU...not supported. Bit of useless information for someone.

So... what do we think about the M11xR1 now we have a successful M11xR2 GPU BIOS?

Update - Sorry, DavyGT I see you're already on the mark. Always one (probably several) steps ahead of me... Doh

Update 2 - Didn't Skoop9 (whatever the tag is - Snowmobile man) get some insane clock on an M11xR1.

probably a no go on the 10k unless we can do 1V and if I had an i7 =). Right now my RAM is the bottleneck for my CPU OC... if I get new RAM I might be able to push 9.5k

    It's this:
Have you done the RAM SPD timing mod? 1V is a different beast altogether.

The reason why the BIOS can't be read by GPUZ is because it's not located on the card but inside the system BIOS.

The R1 is abit harder as it requires more guesswork and is not directly supported by nibitor but that is offset by the R2 BIOS mod experience. I hope.

Currently I just tested 550/1330/930 and it works perfectly. Gonna keep on going :)

Tassadar, do you have an i5 or i7? Im running an i5@170 mhz (I need some better OC memory lol). Highest score I got so far was 8350.

The battery life hit shouldn't be existent unless 3D gaming. Someone needs to measure the before and after with a kill-a-watt and BatteryBar.

ajslay, can you revise on the Phoenix BIOS recovery method and practice it? I have some things for you to test.
I have another mod, I want to see what happens if we flash the R2 BIOS onto the R1. Would it enable Optimus?

Someone already bagsed the guide but it's like this:

    1) Install a 32bit OS
    2) Download ThaiPhoon Burner from this OP
    3) Increase timings using the timing editor
    4) Flash and run

How successful is increasing the ram timings in helping the OC? I could OC to 176 with one of my sticks but only 170 with the other.

Id be interested in doing the timing mod, but id have to pick up a cheap hdd from microcenter so I could install XP on it. All the laptops in my house have a 64 bit os =/

Enough to increase the clocks on one stick by 5mhz from 178 to 183mhz. The other stick didn't change, stable at 178mhz.
