Can someone do me a huge favor and unplug all their ram and try to startup and tell me the error code they receive... I was messing with the cas of my ram and I'm bricked again and I want to see if it is the new BIOS or the I went overboard with the ram

I am getting 2 beeps with the ram inside and without any ram

I remember it's 2 beeps. What were you doing with the CAS? CAS 9 and up won't boot.

Yes, you can. That is hot plugging. Are you getting 4GB sticks?

You need one good stick of RAM to bootup Windows then hotplug it and flash it there.

DavyGT, out of curiosity, why did you choose a BIOS flash that goes back to a03? Is there something about a04 that prevents the mod?

A04 doesn't have anything that prevents the mod, it's just that I noticed I'm stable at 178BCLK with A03 but not A04. Plus, it doesn't add anything of note. I can make an A04 version of the mod if you so wish though.

yes, i tried .fd, .WPH, and .ROM
im using a 120mb stick couse everything else i have is 4gb and above. i had to also find a wincrisis.exe couse the first one wouldnt let me choose the memory stick or it didnt see it, so i went to an older version that does, iv tried manualy copying files, tried letting the program do it, and tried different phlash16.exe's. i cant get it to start the recovery sequence. iv been at this trying to find a solution for over 2 hours.

Thanks to this BIOS, I have been benchmarking and stress testing various GPU overclocks all night, and have taken my overclock further than ever.

My 335M is not one of those awesome ones that can be pushed to the limit. Before, I could only do a modest stable overclock of 520/840/1240 (core, mem, shader).

With this BIOS, I am stable at 570/880/1300 and I can even use SetPLL to clock at 180 without locking up. I'm sure I could go higher with the GPU, but my temperature is pegging at 76/77c on stress tests, and I'm not comfortable pushing it to 80.

    DavyGT, you are THE man!

Anyone have any idea which GPU clock I can push a little higher without really increasing heat? I experienced a 4c increase when I went from 540/860/1260 to the above. I'm trying to squeeze out all the framerate I can without cooking my leg or inducing too much wear and tear. :)

If we can push out a BIOS for an M11xR1 there will be a temperature increase. However, given that GPU temps on an M11xR1 tend to peak around 60 - 65C, M11xR1 may be able to endure higher clocking without impacting on temperature thresholds and thus potential throttling.

Good luck ajslay. Fingers crossed :D

Thanks. Which BIOS did you upgrade from?

We need the recovery process first before we try anything because R1 warranties are closer to ending every day.

Don't worry, 77C is pretty good, well off dangerous temperatures. You can try the bottlecap trick. By propping up the M11x with some bottlecaps, I reduced 7C (73C-65C). Can't push up clocks without increasing heat though, they go hand in hand. You can also repaste the GPU.

We aren't anywhere near temperature thresholds. It's only a few degrees gained.

The best thing about the m11x is the incredible community of modders that have worked tirelessly to craft dells little oddity in to something really special.

Come on folks, let's show our appreciation by giving rep were rep is due!

    Hi

I updated to this modded bios but it actually decreased my performance. I was getting ~8300 in 3DMark06 but now only 6300... The CPU performance dramatically decreased from 2200 to 1200... OC'd at 166mhz. It used to be 2.3ghz in CPUZ but now only 2.0ghz. The multiplier stays at 12... Can someone help me? How can I revert back to bios A04? I tried downloading the dell one but it says not compatible with 64bit OS but I am using 64bit version of it.

    are you using throttel stop?

the rise in temps may be causing your CPU to throttle down.

SUCCESS!! i was able to recover using the xps 1640 crisis set with the m11x bios. now to test what you have =p NOTE: i had to use a 32bit machine to get the flash drive ready to get it to work.

I increased my GPU overclocks to 580/920/1400 and the CPU temperature still tops out at 76C stable in OCCT and in games (NFS Hot Pursuit, Crysis, Test Drive Unlimited 2). Now I'm wondering, what's the top end?!

Before this BIOS, I couldn't come close to these clocks without lock ups and blue screens.

I see that is a misunderstanding.

Ok, let's get some BIOSes out.

The limit's the top end . Keep on clocking.

Try this. Modding the R1 isn't as easy as Dell put 4 VBIOS files onboard, with 1 for the GMA instead of 2 for the R2. We'll have to determine which file is used to control the hardware.

oh alright, so just a little more testing then planned, but i cant get WinPhlash64 to flash the new bios, says that its the same version or newer and therefor it wont flash the new 1.

im not sure how to get around this, unless i used the modded rom with the recovery process

It's pretty easy to get around. Click on "Advanced Settings" and work it from there. There were definately options to allow flashing the same BIOS but I can't investigate further because it won't let me open it on my R2.

    just recovered.

    goodluck on the R1 guys

this is the highest I got after many tests. i could probably break 9100 but that would require me to have speeds where the driver would crash 9 out of 10 tests.
this is far from gaming stable clock speeds, just for benchmarking :).

after overclocking the CPU I had to reduce the GPU OC a little to get it stable.

I flashed my i7 (not with the new one just posted though) and it worked fine for me.

With CPU at 164 and Throttlestop working I was able to max out the settings in MSI Afterburner.

    GPU Core = 585
    GPU Shader = 1405
    GPU Mem = 980

    This game me a 3Dmark of 8992.

My previous attempts only got into to low 8000s without crashing. So quite a bit more stable.

I need to find something else to OC the GPU as MSI is maxing out at 585/1405.

Then see if SetPLL will help my memory.

Try eVGA Precision. Based off the same Rivatuner core as Afterburner but with higher limits.

Thanks for the pointer. I tried it, but its memory clock is limited (to 948? where as mine runs at 980 with MSI and MSI will go >1000 - but GPU crash at that speed), anyhow with the rest on max with eVGA it did not break 9k on 3DMark06. Remember I am running CPU at 164 still.

I can get the MSI one to break 9k by inching up the mem speeds to 980. Though I suspect gaming will not be so stable. http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15616628

There is also some talk of unlocking the MSI limits but I have had no luck getting this to work yet. Something for next weekend.

I'm stuck. I know the VBIOS is OPROM03 but I can't edit and correct checksum without an error message saying I'm 1 byte too large. Editting without correcting the checksum results in no boot.
