In Cinebench 11.5, I get 1.19 with my 2.07Ghz R1. In my R2 also at 2.07Ghz, I get 1.7x. With Cinebench 10, I got 45xx with my R1 and 63xx in my R2, also clocked at 2.07Ghz. The R2 is faster clock for clock in multithreaded benchmarks and in multithreaded games such as Company of Heroes and World of Tanks.
Sorry, I should have made the distinction between BIOS mod and vmod clear. vmod stands for volt mod and is a hardware modification, usually involves soldering a resistor to a circuit. BIOS mod is in software.
I would love to mod the BIOS to allow this but even the hardcore BIOS experts such as TheWiz (Of M17x R1 and R2 unlocked BIOS fame) hasn't made any progress with the Insyde BIOS from the M17x R3.

Alright, thanks. I play alot of BFBC2, so I figure that I'd benigit from a faster CPU. Black ops is GPU limited on R1, right?
-
Overclocking the R1 makes BFBC2 playable. Overclocking the R2 makes BFBC2 smooth. Stevenxowens792's empty Atacama server benchmark won't show this but under intense action, the frames won't drop to 5-10FPS anymore. Black Ops plays fine on the R2, stock GPU. 30FPS+ with normal settings, 4x AA and everything turned on at 1366x768. It's been a few patches since I lasted played it on R1 so I can't say much more.
-
Allright, thanks. I hope BC2 is above 30, since that's what it played on on my m9750, so I'm used to it. Since im doing the Bios mod, I think BO will play fine. MW2, the game I play most, should play great, I would think.

There are too many pages to read over so excuse me if this has been brought up before; Can the voltage be reduced to .85 to extend the battery life? Has anyone tried?
-
you would get 4-5min of extra life...
-
My 335M at .95v allows me to hit 945mhz on memory.. but for some reason Evga Precision won't let me go higher than 945mhz.. If I type in anything higher, it just reverts back down to 948mhz (which is a real 945mhz on the clock). Is there's a cap to how high you can go or something?
-
use a program called NvidiaInspector, it has infinite numbers on the clocks that you can set to.
-
Would it be possible to change the clock values for low power 3D mode through the BIOS? I was messing around with Phoenix BIOS Editor but could not find the specific Nvidia ROM to edit.
I would like to get my low power 3D clocks @ 350mhz clock and 600mhz memory so I would not have to use MSI Afterburner each time. -
Nvidiainspector you can downclock the idle clocks, and 2d clocks.
-
I tried it and it works pretty well, the only thing is that I would prefer the system automatically to use the clocks I specify for low power 3D - as opposed to using the batch file each time. I've got a batchfile for overclocking already so having several different ones is becoming a little bit of a hassle.
Does anyone have the name of the VBIOS file in the m11x bios so I can edit the clocks myself in nibitor? -
I honestly would love to see how much battery power can be squeezed out of my R1 with the least possible voltage. I'm shooting for 350/650 @ .80v
That should be enough to play most games at a reduced resolution. -
Sorry if I have missed it in some thread. But I am receiving my R3 tomorrow and was wondering if there is any chance to get a high volt BIOS mod for that?
-
The VBIOS mod only adds .03v and the recovery method isn't tested. Is it worth the trouble as interest in this mod seems minute?
-
Ah no it is not
I was just curious since I'm getting my replacement from Dell. Thanks for the prompt response Davy.
-
so let me get this straight
on my r1 [su7300], all i do is run the program and hope to primus that it doesnt fail, and itll automatically up my 335m's performance?
or are there other steps i need to do? -
no it will increase the voltage on your GT335, and allow you to overclock more.
-
ah ok, and how would i overclock it, is there a guide for it?
-
Download MSI afterburner and use the sliders to SLOWLY boost the clock speed of your GPU. make it go up 5 to 10 points at a time and test it with the program that comes with it, Kombustor. use the GPU burn in feature and look at the numbers on the right, if they suddenly show something like 405/810/??? or something close, reboot and try a lower OC untill you find your highest stable point. goodluck!
edit: BTW, if you want to save some time you can try and jump right to 540/1340/875, alot of people have had success with that if it doesnt work you can bring it down a bit and test it -
ah nice much thanks deadboy, does this void warranty? i assume not as its not a hardmod, i do need to get my hinge fixed though
-
nope it does not void the warranty. besides, you can get your hinge fixed without a warranty anyway. free from dell.
-
oh cool, ill give it a shot
where do i find the cpu-z?
edit: found it -
I know regular oc'ing won't void your warrenty but I assume the volt mod will?
-
just wondering is there a mirror for the files?
because that link doesnt work
-
same here, the R1 bios file from media fire is giving error of file not found =(
-
i doubt it would void the warranty. but if you cant get the files, your going to need to PM DavyGT
-
he just updated the links
now to get to this! -
Alright, so I had some problems here. I extracted the R1 file (thanks for getting it back up!
) and ran the winphlash file. Annnddd, I bricked. Ajslay, I owe you a lot for your "unbrick" solution.
I wondering if I did something wrong here? Some relevant info might be...
1) I run the latest nvidia driver, not the specific one for the m11x R1
2) This means I normally run my laptop on discrete, as I no longer have the switchable functionality.
Will reinstalling the original drivers help me here?
Thanks in advance. -
Definetly cant hurt, give it a try and you say for sure that the r1 "Unbrick" works? that was one of the things holding me back from trying the mod
-
Yes, I can say for sure that the unbrick works perfectly. I'm on my m11x as we speak
. If you do end up flashing the bios, would you mind posting if it worked?
-
hmm maybe PM the guy again to recheck the bios maybe? he could have mistakenly switched the r1 with r2 or something else might have gone wrong
-
Hey, just want to update: I reinstalled the old drivers, and it still didn't work. Brick!
-
drivers wouldnt matter. those are just for the OS and would have absolutely no effect on the flashing process. something could have gotten mixed up, i think that it might have been the R2 bios, possibly. because the R1 has always worked fine.
-
Hey all I took the plunge and now ( with recovery USB in hand) my r1 is sitting blank screened and fan on full blast, it's been this way about 5 minutes, is that still normal? How long does it usually take?
-
Ok it's been like a half hour is it bricked? What do I do if it is?
-
Yep, that's what happened to me. I turned it off (hard-boot style) and ran the recovery. I did not, by the way, remove the battery... recovery worked just fine skipping that step.
-
Yay it recovered! But the bios mod still didn't work
-
ok guys, im PRETTY sure DavyGT got the bios's mixed up or something, if i were you i'd PM him again and ask. if i still had my m11x i would try it on mine again. i was the tester for this mod and everything went fine, everything working.
glad my recovery method is working for you all. -
well heres to recovery method!
ran it, bricked, facepalmed a bit, then recovered it
so the new files dont seem to work -
kinda what i figured, but just wait it out and im sure we can get it sorted.
-
I'm just mad that I flashed my BIOS and my GPU is now only stable at 475/800/1085. O well, better than no overclocking at all when I didn't have the mod.
-
yeah everyones GPU overclocks different. its just luck to get a real high clocking one.
just like on my EVGA GTS450 i can manage over 1ghz on the core clock, 2000 for the shader, and 2000 for the memory. thats really high. -
Yea, I'm always amazed when I see your sig lol, anywho, I'm glad that I have a stable CPU with the OC @ 166 MHZ moreso than the fact that my GPU isn't extremely overclockable.
-
Don't worry Zuu... you're not alone. I OC at 530/1272/820... If I increase the core clock anymore, I crash; if I increase the mem clock anymore, I artifact.
-
I'm in the same boat as you guys, my GPU isn't much of an OC'er either.
I find that some games are more brutal than others, especially Crysis and Metro 2033, where anything over 500/1200/810... BAM! BSOD
At least it can play these games well enough without needed to OC anyway. -
would OC'ing have any effect for SC2? or should i just leave it as it is, as I dont play much FPS, only RTS and some LoL
-
in some games overclocking can give a 10fps boost, just depends on the game.
-
Not sure about SC2, but even the minor OC I accomplish pushes me into acceptable frame-rates on Witcher 2 with med/low settings. Before the OC, I could barely run on low.
-
one thing i have noticed after doing the mod is that the drivers reset alot more than before, even at my old pre-mod clocks
-
Seeing as I haven't received any complaints from deadboy who I given a new version of the R1 mod to, I have uploaded it.
