Alright, I tried the R1, and I got mixed results: it initially appears to be a success. The computer starts up, in switchable graphics mode. However since I run the latest Nvidia drivers, it is, of course, not actually switchable. I restart, and set to discrete. And then, it bricks. It's unable to start at all, and I just get a blank screen with beeping.

I got this mod to work by:
    1) using the Dell Nvidia drivers.
    2) installing the bios while on discrete mode
    3) when the bios installs, it starts on switchable mode.... do NOT change to discrete! This bricks my laptop.

We got it to recover last night thankfully. Also I have this same mod running on my m11x with the a05 r1 bios and all I had to do was run the program. I didn't do anything special from what I recall

Still anxious for the 1.0v Mod! There is any chance of it being released?

Btw, thanks for the 0.95v mod!

There is no chance for a 1v BIOS mod. Setting 1v (hex 64) into the VBIOS defaults the 335M to .9v. .95v is as high as it gets without a hardware mod.

Any thoughts to improvements from just having the extra voltage? There are some that get occasional card crash (me too) and while likely just driver I wonder if there are other non obvious benefits.

The card will idle at a lower voltage. Put some load on the card and it should jump back upto 0.95v

The R3 volt mod worked good. My max stable overclock was 815mhz at 0.95v. I installed the 1v volt mod and got at most a 2c jump in temps while stress testing. My new max OC is 830mhz which has been crash free for a week of BF3 and Deus Ex:HR. 835mhz was fairly stable but after ~10hours of gaming(not nonstop) I got a display driver crash.

Thanks again for uploading a R3 volt mod =3

    EDIT:
    Okay update successful! =D
GPU now running at 1.000v =D
Temp increased by 3'c! from 78 to 81.. Do you think this is okay?

    Tested with OCCT

Got some more testing to do now! =)

Was able to apply to R1 but didnt get to test as it did not like my Optimus drivers. I can at least report the flash "flashed". Suspect it would have been fine with OEM drivers.

Thats fine, its not enough of a temp change to get worried. Hmm, it is a bit high though, maybe blow some dust out. (Or maybe that's just the habit of never seeing a temp on my r1 over 70C :) )

    Installed successful on R3 :'D
    Before Clocks:
    Core - 830mhz
    Memory - 1080mhz
    Shader - 1660mhz

    After Clocks:
    Core - 836mhz
    Memory - 1080mhz
    Shader - 1667mhz

    Idle Temperature - Between 44c and 48c
    Mirror's Edge (Physx, Max settings) - 78c
Skyrim (High Resolution Texture Pack, Max settings) - 81c
    Left 4 Dead 2 (Max settings) - 72c

EDIT: For benchmarking purposes, I used Just Cause 2's benchmarking tool with maximum settings. I did all 3 tests twice and then averaged them. My average was 33FPS :'D It drastically increased when I turned off V-Sync

Can anyone upload the BIOS vmod for the gpu Alienware M11x R1 with Graphics Discrete working ?
I'm using triple boot so switchable is no interest for me and as I understood the new version of the Bios mod is bad but the old one works [I've tested the new one and when Graphics set to Discrete bios locks up]
so anyone with the old bios mod that works ? @ajslay ?
I have pinmod the U7300 to 2Ghz so reseting the Bios is the killer for me

You might want to sit this mod out.

Basically its a bootable drive (flashdrive/thumbdrive) with the orig bios on it and the means to install. If you have done any firmware updates its a similar process.

Problem is if you brick your computer there are only a few people with experience that can help you. In this case I have not experienced a failed bios recovery to say for certain if you can come back from such a failure.

Do you really need this mod?

I have recovered my laptop once but lost the flash drive(forgot what the brand was) and I have applied this mod on dell's driver. I'm just confirming and asking if I can update the driver to the latest Nvidia or not (I have and R1).

    P.S: I'm malaysian too :D

I think I have the recovery bit on a bootable drive still. Swing on by! lol.

I was able to flash but my system wouldnt work. Suspect it might/maybe/can't_rule_it_out that the optimus style driver I'm using didn't agree with it.

For whatever reason not all systems will take the mod. Driver be blamed or not.

Then how about this: it doesn't work on all systems. Reason a,b, or c. His recovery plan may depend on others so best to have that sorted and ready in advance - or sit this one out. Seems the Bios recovery is not yet on USB?

You lost yourself in trying to argue. The flashing to increase voltage doesn't always work... he is having trouble with ensuring that the recovery process is ready to go. Edit: in other words HIS recovery files are not yet on USB

Because of the trouble YOU had I'm sure you can appreciate the concern in knowing which media to put the recovery on and what to do with it when needed.

I was suggesting sitting this out if either not familiar or if unable to get a working recovery setup. Further, I answered the question about whether it WILL work using certain drivers pointing out that if recovery does not work for any reason that I would not be able to guide him.

I think you missed the questions I was answering being more concerned with another pointless argument.

dude, it DOES ALWAYS WORK. iv tested my files with several different m11x's. has to be R1 only, and my bios recovery works no problem. iv personally tested everything many times. if you can get all the requirements for this mod everything goes well.

I'll repeat: mod didn't work for me. I suggested the optimus driver being my issue as it is probably the only difference in my system from others. You say? "cant be!" I say? "I don't know why". What is the argument about?

I never said recovery doesn't work. It worked for me! You salvaged the files from me remember? Why would I have them otherwise?

What I did say was that because he was having some question about the recovery bit to ensure he has it sorted before continuing. YOU had some questions about it in the beginning if I recall and some issues with compatible hardware. Oddly when I remind folks of these things when they actually ASK you get all defensive.

But you can continue with blanket statements based on misunderstanding if you want. None of it matters as his issue is sorted.

i had issues when i was first testing it. that was it. and why would someone be using an optimus driver with the r1, its hybrid graphics.

the problem that i was having was getting the right flash drives. the files i had were picky, had to repack the recovery with different files, and it was fixed.

and if for some reason things dont go right, then theres something else wrong.
all im saying is that i checked everything multiple times to make sure everything was in order.
