    Hmm. I've seen nothing but improvements moving through the betas and now into release. On the M11x I went from low 20's in beta to mid to high 40s and 50s now at release. Similarly, on the M17x, I'm seeing up to around 100 running at 2560xgodknowswhat on the Cinema display here.

    M11X R2 ran it even better than the beta weekends when early access started was getting anything from 60-110.

    M11X R3 run's it about the same tbh.

    I am running it on my R2 i7 M11X and am VERY happy with its performance :) I have not tested FPS as I couldn't figure out how to do it in game and am not bothered anyway. You just end up "chasing" frame rates.

    I just chose to trust my eyes and everything runs incredibly smoothly with all settings on MAX other than bloom and shadows which are OFF. I have factory overclocked to 160mhz and am running throttlestop.

    The game looks wonderful and make me wish I could be playing on a bigger screen. Saying that, I may try it on my 50" at 1080p and see how it gets on. If it works, I can see a wireless keyboard in my future.

    CTRL+SHIFT+F = FPS In game, appears in the bottom right.

    i have literally exact same settings - OC and throttle stop, so im guessing your in that 30FPS range like I am, or higher if your on the native monitor. I run at 23inch 1080p - runs fantastic.

    Hello all, so since we have a general SWTOR thread, and with today being release date, I would like to start a thread to gather issues with game performance as well as possible tweaks.

    I would like to gather people's systems and performance issues first, and ill edit this thread to show them. I do request one thing: When sharing your issue, please use the in game FPS counter (Control+Shift+F) and tell me what COLOR it is in addition to the two numbers. The meter will be on the lower left of your screen, right on top your companion portrait. Additionally, please state the zone you are in, and what optimization you have already done. Finally, say in game settings.

    POSSIBLE BUGS:
    1: There have been many reports of the graphic settings not being set correctly. Some people claim that low=high, med=low, high=medium

    2: There have been reports of memory leaks in certain areas, main one noted is the planet taris

    3: There have been reports of GPU's not being utilized correctly. (This is why I need to know your FPS counter color. Green=GPU bottleneck, Red=CPU bottleneck)

    NOTE: I can somewhat confirm this: I loaded up into a heavy populated area on coruscant, was getting roughly in the 14fps range, then loaded into a warzone and fell down to around 8. I had GPU-z monitoring at all times, and the GPU graphics load stayed on average around 40%. Additionally, memory usage never went over 600

    PERFORMANCE ISSUES:
    Report #1:
    System: M11x R1
    Optimization Done: Gamebooster with all options checked (I.E turning off explorer.exe and such)
    In Game Settings: Native Resolution, all options ticked off, all settings low/off
    Zone: Any Warzone
    Issue: single digit FPS
    In Game FPS Counter: Color: Green, Fps 8(5)

    POSSIBLE TWEAKS:
    #1: .ini settings: To find the .ini you go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings and open client_settings

    NOTE ON INI SETTINGS: You have to make sure to make the ini file read only after you alter it or the changes will disappear when you start up! Also, ensure before you make any tweaks, you make a backup in case the game fails to load

    Some things I have seen just looking at the ini: Texture Antisotropy was set fo 16 even though I had things off, manually typed it in as 1.. Perhaps we could get some people who are comfortable with tweaking the ini to look into stuff? I have seen a few threads across the internet with ini tweaks for higher graphical quality, but nothing yet for lower end users

    Personal INI settings: Here is a list of what my INI looks like:
    Code:
    [Renderer]
    D3DFullScreen = true
    Height = 768
    NativeHeight = 768
    NativeWidth = 1366
    TextureAnisotropy = 1
    Width = 1366
    WindowX = 0
    WindowY = 0
    AllowDepthOfField = false
    doShadows = false
    doBlobShadows = false
    PlantDensity = 0
    SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 0.75
    MeshLODQuality = 0
    EnableBloom = false
    UseMinSpecShaders = true
    TextureQuality = 1

    [Game]
    MoviesFolder = ..\..\Movies
    SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic
    This is with all ingame settings again clicked off, turned to low/off

    Some other settins people seem to be manually adding into the file (for High quality graphics):

    DynamicLightsLimit = 2
    MeshLODQuality = 1
    FarClipScale = 3.9371195
    VerticalSyncState = true
    GammaRamp = 1.037854
    AntiAliasingLevel = 2
    enableadvenvirolighting = true
    DebugAdvEnviroLighting = true

    I might run a test adding all that in and setting everything to 0/false to see how much that helps.

    Vutall, i moved your post here as there is no need for multiple threads on the same game!

    Folks, i know most of you are aware but before opening a new thread, please make sure that we don't already have one on the same subject.
    I know the search function is broken but the administrators are working hard to restore it among other projects.

    Until then, please see this thread:

    Thank you

    Don't get me wrong, i really apreciate your contribution and i'm sure i'm not the only one but even though we already have a section for Gaming discussions here we do allow it in the Alienware subsections if it's not a general talk about that specific game.
    Also let's keep one thread for each title, please.

    With this being said maybe Froogle will agree on adding the content of your post in the OP ;)

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the original post update froogle. I am going to be doing some tests now and see what happens with ini tweaking. Wish me luck!

    UPDATE: So, it seems that even my processor is only at 60-70% max load (PVP zone with a bunch of players nearby) I noted that when I changed some settings to 0/false and then changed farclip to 0.25 it seemed I got a LITTLE improvement, but not much. Also when I changed resolution to 1 below native, i saw a little improvement. I noticed when I fully zoomed in and looked at a wall, my framerate sitting in the coruscant cantina went to like 30, and as soon as I zoomed out.looked at the players (The cantina had probably 6-10 players in it) my framerate went back to 14ish. I messaged bioware to see if I couldnt get the ini settings from them for mins/max to see if any more tweaking could help, but honestly, this seems like a problem more on their end than anything.

    Is there anyway to get warzones to run smoothly? Everywhere else I have no problems, but the warzones seem to be an issue with everyone, any suggestions to make them run better? Sorry I didn't go through this whole post I just found it and I'm in in a rush so sorry if I missed something mentioned already.

    Also I've been trying to update my nvidia driver and I just don't understand how to do it. Do I delete my old graphics driver and then download the new one? I tried downloading the one off nvidia.com and whenever I rebooted my PC the screen would just go black after the welcome screen? I'm not very knowledgeable with computers so I apologize if this is a really stupid question, I'm just anxious to get the most out of my computer to play this game. Also when I download the driver a bunch of files appear on my desktop, where should I place these?

    Thanks

    R2 here,
    whenever my fps drops low, i change from medium to high and it boosts it back to good fps again momentarily.
    This doesn't make any sense. What's wrong?

    @jamest0o0 you might have to roll back to beta 197 drivers. That is if you updated to the newest drivers on the dell website.

    You might have to do what i did i just downloaded the 197 drivers from dell and re installed them and everything was back to normal. Not sure why but the the newest drivers from dell besides the 197.12 wouldnt work for me.

    Hey all here is an update from bioware from this thread:
    STAR WARS: The Old Republic - Horrid FPS - Page 169

    Hey everyone, we have an update on this issue for you. Our development team and our production team have been investigating this issue and we want to thank everyone who has posted constructively on this thread. You’ve provided the development team with a basis for investigation into the low FPS issues, and with your help they have identified and are in the process of resolving the indoor framerate drop.

    Please note: this applies to people experiencing a severe framerate drop only when inside buildings, or alleviated symptoms when turning off shadows. Please keep in mind that there are always numerous factors at play when you experience an issue; the more specific you can be with your report, the better you are equipping us to investigate and fix it.

    If you are experiencing a framerate issue that does not fall under that very specific category, please respond to this thread with the following information:

    A clear and concise description of your issue.
    Your DXDiag (please use spoiler tags).

    Have you followed these specific steps (see my note about “Low” settings):

    Change settings to high, click apply. You should see a loading screen as settings are applied.
    Change settings to low, click apply. You should see another loading screen.
    Observe whether there is any change in performance.

    Some of you have already pointed this out, but there is a separate issue at play here that might be adding another layer of confusion. Your settings will always display as “Low” on first run of the game – but they might actually be on Medium or High!

    Thank you for your patience, and know that we are keeping a very close eye on the forums.

    Heres a new .ini that could help make things better for some of you, but please be aware that Bioware is working on a fix.

    Remeber, to find the .ini you go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings and open client_settings
    after your finished, make it READ ONLY
    Code:
    [Renderer]
    D3DFullScreen = true
    Height = 768
    Width = 1366
    WindowX = 0
    WindowY = 0
    RefreshRate = 60
    DynamicLightsLimit = 2
    MeshLODQuality = 1
    TextureAnisotropy = 1
    FarClipScale = 0.25
    PlantDensity = 0
    NativeHeight = 768
    NativeWidth = 1366
    doShadows = false
    doBlobShadows = false
    UseMinSpecShaders = true
    VerticalSyncState = false
    EnableBloom = false
    TextureQuality = 0
    AllowDepthOfField = false
    GammaRamp = 1.037854
    SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 0.75
    AntiAliasingLevel = 0
    enableadvenvirolighting = false
    DebugAdvEnviroLighting = false
    Graphics_ClipDistance = 0.10000000149

    [Game]
    MoviesFolder = ....\Movies
    SwtorRegKey = SOFTWARE\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic
    NOTE: I do NOT use any of these settigns, I am just posting things that might help. Please ALWAYS make a backup before making changes as some of these settings are from the old beta client and could cause the release client to be buggy. But if you are suffering, it is worth a shot to try!

    What's this like on the R1? I've seen a couple of posts, saying it's inconsistent, but that's on medium to high settings.

    Can I expect good, stable performance on low settings?

    I'm not bothered about graphical quality, just stability.

    Turning all settings to low seemed to make no difference. Running with all settings on High, bloom and shadows off I average about 30-45 FPS except in town where I average 15-20 (stutters sometimes but playable) and warzones where I only get 5-15 (surprisingly playable, but it aint pretty). I'm now overclocking my CPU and GPU but honestly it ran about the same before I overclocked either. No crashes or major graphical glitches though, just some fps slowdown. Apparently some serious gaming machines are experiencing the same kind of slowdown even with hardware with 4x the power of an R1 so it may be a problem on Bioware's end that may be fixed with a patch.

    Ah ok, thanks for the input. I may leave it a month or so for a patch before I give it a go. I assume the game itself is pretty enjoyable?

    Not many reviews about yet but it's always hard to get a good review of a MMORPG.

    I love it so far. If you like Knights of the Old Republic and MMOs you should love it too. It's just like KOTOR meets WoW. The voice acting and conversation wheels mean I actually get a little in to the story, something no other MMO has ever managed to do for me. Plus it's Star Wars universe, makes for a good setting and characters/classes.

    i heard if u make a local user account on ur laptop it will fix the issue. i haven't tested it myself but if anyone with time wants to do it for us, we would be honored.

    also bioware has not acknowledged overall fps inadequacy. only certain areas.
    they can go themselves and i'm unsubcribing.

    then you are just one lucky sob because in the 400+ pages on SWTOR fps issues, many are alienware laptop users.

    For people needing help with fps:
    Antialiasing mode- Enhance
    setting - 16xq csaa
    transperancy - multisampling.

    change that and force it for swtor in nvdia settings

    it makes pvp playable. not reaching below 20 fps now. but not going above 30 either. at least its stable-ish

    I wish i knew the answer's but you know this is PC gaming's biggest downfall you can have identical system's but both can run the same game completely different.

    im 100 hours in.

    i play on a i7 m11xr2....it runs fine (30-60 FPS) in towns, and PVE, and instancess. my warzones drop anywhere between 20-40.

    Believe me its completely playable, i believe the i5 should be fine.

    I run on an external monitor as well at 1920x1080 - if i PVE i go to med settings, no shadows, and it runs in the 30-40 fps range, if i want to pvp, i drop to Low settings and its playable.

    if its JUST the native screen, i can run it high and get in the 40fps range.

    i have overclocked my cpu with throttle stop. I have 3 friends with m11xR2 and we get the same experience.

    hope that helps!

    thank you for not removing me calling that guy a "sob" cutie

    may i ask how your r2 i7 is running this game max settings when the engine doesn't support multiple cores? it's only using 1 core, oh and your i7 hyperthreading doesn't function correctly and creates problems for this game.

    I've just got my R3 in the last few days. I've upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers and I'm running TOR at 1366*768 with everything on High except for shadows on Low and 4xAA.

    I get around 29-37 fps in Coruscant and between 33 and 60 fps in other less challenging areas. If I turn on high shadows I get between 19 and 33 fps in Coruscant.

    I do however suffer from some texture problems that have blighted the game since release (according to posts on the TOR forums) that mean some objects don't show the highest res textures they can even close up. This seems to affect a lot of Nvidia 500 series cards, although some ATi 4000 and 5000 series cards have been mentioned too.

    Like i said bloom/shadows off rest graphics max settings was getting anything from 50-110 fps depending on area ofc sometimes it would dip to 30's but never more than a few seconds.

    Got my R3 and i'm running it fine on that too, shadows/bloom off rest graphics is max settings.

    Hyperthreading doesn't work for this game?

    Another tip I have learned of to help performance: Set the launcher in compatibility mode for Windows XP (service pack 3). People are reporting a gain between 10 and 20 fps.

    With all the tips I have been throwing out, has anyone tried them? If so, post which ones, what system you have, and what gains you had.

    Just a question:

    I can get an Alienware M11x R2 very cheap and I want to test that game out. Unluckily I have just a Macbook at the moment, so can someone tell me what I can expect with the following R2:

    CPU: Intel Core i3 330UM (1,2 GHz)
    Memory: 4GB DDR3
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 335m - 1GB
    Operation System: Windows 7 Home Premium

    Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english, I'm german. ;)

    Greetings, I am having a number of issues with this game. I have an R2, I7 processor, 335M, and 4gb of ram.

    The game ran smoothly for me at launch. I played at max resolution on the 11 inch screen and didnt really experience many problems. By about christmas, I was hit by the 50% load screen bug and unable to play for a number of days. They finally fixed that, and I got to play with little trouble for about a day until this next problem sprung up, and has been where Ive been stuck for a number of days...basically unable to play the game.

    When I load from the launcher, it just seems to take ages to load. When I do get to the character select screen and select my smuggler, it goes right to the loading screen, shoots to about 25% and sits there for about 3-4 minutes while it loads. When I do load in, it is to a black screen that slowly loads in over time. I'll get a mouse pointer, then my HUD, then finally the graphics will slowly load in. When they do load in, they look terrible and my frame rates are pretty much at slideshow level.

    Here is what I have tried. I installed stopthrottle and gamebooster and run those. I have turned off shadows and have tried running the game anywhere from low to high settings. At one point this actually caused my colors to change to what looked like 16color. I switched to windows mode which fixed it, but I still had all the other problems. I have tried various combinations of bloom on/off and vert sync on/off. I have also whitelisted the program and made sure my nvidia processor icon showed it was running swtor. I was running the latest nvidia driver and had the same issue, and tried updating to the latest beta with no effect. The game is basically unplayable at this point for me, which sucks.

    I'd like to get this fixed because my Thermaltake liquid cooling case sprung a leak and my desktop system will be out of commision for a week or two during the RMA process.

    Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

    Hey i have an i5 r2 and I'm still having a lot of problems with the fps. Im running everything on low, have everything whitelisted and am overclocked and using TS but i still drop to 10fps even in non crowded areas. It will sometimes bounce up to 60 momentarily but will rapidly drop soon after. Fleets are a nightmare - i get about 8fps in them. could someone tell me what settings they have in nvidia and swtor?

    Given everything that you've already tried, if it was me, I would just bite the bullet and reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything (the OS, the game, etc.) from scratch.

    Here's my take on the game, SWTOR on the Alienware M11X R2 - YouTube
    That is on my R2, which as many people may know, I have the U5400 processor so it's only slightly more powerful than an R1, and I am still getting the same framerates as everyone else. I believe Nvidia said that there is an issue with their drivers and the chipset which is in the M11X and I do also think they're working on a new driver which will hopefully fix the problem. There is no bottleneck here as my CPU runs at about 50% and the GPU load is nearly the same.
    Hopefully nvidia fixes their issues soon, or Bioware comes out with a new patch, I love the game, but dropping to 5 FPS randomly is quite frustrating. Other than that, I am just biting the bullet and if they never fix these framerate issues.... Then I guess it's back to WoW for me.

    Recently got an m11x-R3 with the i7 and 6GB of ram, and after reading the posts in this thread and messing around a bit finally got things working very acceptably in swtor. 40-60 fps pretty much everywhere in 1920x1080 on an external monitor, higher on the built in display in 1366x768 .

    I'm really happy with the m11x, playing swtor on the bus (or anywhere) tethered to my cell phone for internet is pretty sweet! Now I just need some video goggles...

    Some things that helped:

    - the new nvidia drivers - 285.62 is what I'm using now - recognized the swtor.exe file as star wars the old republic. The drivers the m11x shipped with (I think it was 265 or so) did not recognize the exe, and wouldn't even let me select it for some reason.

    - In the Nvidia control panel the setting 'auto select: NVIDIA GPU' and 'High Performance Nvidia processor' behaved differently (the tell tale sign was how loud the fan got). the 'auto select: NVIDIA GPU' option is what worked best for me. I found the general rule to be louder fan = better performance :p

    - nvidia control panel settings:

    Antialiasing mode- Enhance
    setting - 16xq csaa
    transparency - multisampling
    multi-display/mixed gpu - single display performance mode
    texture filtering - aniso sample opt - On
    triple buffering - on
    vertical sync - force on

    - game settings:
    Bloom and shadows off. (This made a huge difference.)
    Everything else on high except texture anisotropy which is at low.

    At some point I'll try to use some of the .ini adjustments that were mentioned, but for now I'm a happy gamer. Many thanks to this discussion thread :)

    PS. to get the good framerates when on battery power I needed to switch to the High Performance power profile (battery icon in the system tray), and edit the advanced settings of the profile: Graphic Processor -> GPU Power State -> On Battery: Max Performance . when GPU Power state is on 'Balanced Mode' framerate drops to around 15fps, unfortunately 'Balanced Mode' is the default for the high performance profile.

    Just got an email that former subscribers get a free month. Anyone still playing? Has the performance problems from earlier been fixed?
