What kind of CPU throttling do you mean? I don't mean turbo throttling. I mean the CPU throttling that Dell implements due to GPU/CPU temperature is too high (or combination of them both), or similar. The throttling that uses clock modulation thing, which ThrottleStop could prevent(?).

If the R3 experiences higher temperatures overall than R2, then the risk for that kind of throttling increases.

Yay my R3 has arrived 20mins ago :)

    I ordered on the 20th.

It also has the wrong mains cable for the transformer, so had to dig up a matching one ;)

I really want to see some 540M OC numbers. 8.3k for non-OC is good but these should hopefully break 10k with some good GPUs.

Thanks Redback911 for running Cinebench. All of your benchmark results are appreciated. Everyone here is very curious how the new R3 runs, especially compared to the previous generation R2. Based on your results so far, both owners can be happy. An overclocked R2 is competitive with the new R3 and for those not interested in overclocking, all you have to do is plugin the new R3 and you will be getting some great results. The R3 should also have improved battery run time as well as improved hinges as a bonus.

mobilezila, Bluetooth 3.0 features are only marginally better than 2.1.

USB 3.0 though is very, very substantially better than USB 2.0.

Bluethooth 3.0 is substantially better than 2.1. going from around 3mbit transfer to 24mbit transfer is what, 800% faster? This is mostly due to the addition of 802.11 in the Bluetooth stack.

Just got mine a few minutes ago.. was going to do an unboxing video, but I had it sent here to my office @ work, and I have no camera to use here, well, just a crappy one on my Blackberry. Got too impatient to wait till I get home.. sorry guys!

Initial quick thoughts; I like the straight power cable; doesn't have that weird bent cord like my R2 did. It's the correct 90W A/C Adapter.

I may be crazy, but the soft-touch seems less 'soft' to me than the R2 did.

Screen seems exactly the same imo, so do the keys/trackpad (didn't someone @ dell say they were going to change the track pad to the soft-touch in some interview?)

Going to be hard to work now! Will post more feedback later. :D

Yeah, I'm asking the same question. Right now it says my order is in Delivery Preperation on the main page on the webpage. But if I click on it, it says In Production. If I call, it says it shipped on 5/10.

So, I guess they took my laptop to the future, and shipped it.

And, of course. Support agents can't tell me a thing.

Actually...My EDD was May 16th. I had the exact same thing as you. Says Delivery Preparation on the main page but when I click in it says In Production. Mine shipped the next day and I received it the day after (today). I think it'll depend on what type of shipping you have. When I called the CSR they threw in express shipping.

My estimated delivery date is 5/12. And I have next day shipping. So, I should get it pretty quick when it goes out. I'm hoping I get it today, but I don't even know if they are using UPS, FedEX, or DHL.

I can't stress my sadness that they can't get a decent panel for this machine. Everything would just look so freaking good with a nice IPS screen! I have an R2 and was planning on upgrading, but without a proper screen upgrade I don't see the point for me.

Mine got here about an hour and a half ago! created the rescue USB key and am now running updates. The black is definitely a different color then the R2, a little more grey maybe? Texture feels a little less slick as well. Doubt wither would show up well in a photo (even if i had a half decent camera).

Now for a weekend of installing stuff LOL

Mine arrived too! But I think I started messing with it to soon :/ I made a recovery USB like it prompted me to do, and I put my vertex 2 100G in the laptop (default was 7200RPM 500G) and the recovery said that I needed a HDD of 500G or greater? Have any of you seen this, and how do I get around this to make the recovery compatible with my SSD. Other than that, my m11x r3 is amazing. XD

It appears as that the recovery media created expects the drive to be the same size or larger. Mine wants a 750GB drive.

Hi Folks, sorry for the radio silence. I went to Ireland for the holiday weekend. Just on the ferry now coming into the Welsh port. Spent three days on the road with the M11x and I am loving it. I have an iPad as well, and glad to say the iPad was more or less redundant the entire trip.

I see some outstanding requests, I will endeavour to fulfil them when I am back home this afternoon.

Ah yes, a Welsh pub at one of the ports has a few old Zaire 'dollars' I left with them. :)

I believe a good dual core smart phone and an M11x is a good match. I don't have a WWAN in my M11xR1, but use Bluetooth/3G on my phone to connect my M11xR1 for those grand days out.

Ah good idea. I have also seen some Android applications for sharing a 3G connection using Wifi (simple router). Although to be honest I was disappointed the UK M11x does not have the 3G modem as standard.

Latest news, just installed a Samsung P800 SSD drive in the M11x. Dramatically improved start-up time as expected. Unexpectedly Windows 7 does not support Intel 1000 Wireless Card by default, so just downloading a 55MB driver.

Anybody else having issues with the Dell US site not accepting there service tag? Trying to add the R3 to my list of products or search for drivers. The add also lets you use order and customer numbers and they don't work either.

Trying to figure out if they just don't have the system setup yet for the R3 service tags or what.

Entering my service tag #, I get this message:

"Our records indicate that your service tag belongs to a system that was purchased outside the United States."

but I ordered it here in Portland, Or. and it shipped from California.

I believe it takes some time for the service tag to actually work on Dell site.
Although it was for M11x R2, it took me a few weeks for my service tag to work.
I have a feeling that Dell is getting lazier and lazier with this kind of stuff...

With my standard laptop I used a program called Defraggler ( Defraggler - File and Disk Defragmentation - Free Download) which squashes all the data at the start of the disk, then you can use Windows 7 disk tools to shrink the partition to equal or less size than your SSD. I then backed up with Windows 7 Backup/Recovery but I guess you would use the Alienware recovery software.

You have a backup for the original large disk now so as long as you keep that intact you can play until you get it right :)
