OK Intel new drivers installed (2226 package) and all working fine - so far switching seems OK, have not checked to see if there is a performance difference in the drivers suspect there "may" be an improvement but would not be significant.

Did this purely as the STD drivers were causing issues on switching, with the newer package I have so far found the switching to be less of an issue.

I am unconcerned about remaining in test mode, have removed the watermark and will just stay running in test mode going forward. The driver signing issue is a great way for Microsoft to generate revenue, yes they also want system stability and hence the driver signing issue but in reality you are given a second warning message that specificity say in big letters - ARE U SURE!!! - if your not don't say yes!!!

So no downsides in running test mode forever essentially?

The only downside is answering yes - and the driver actually not being stable and ending up with constant crashing or BSOD's, that's pretty much it from a downside perspective.

So no comments from any Dell Rep on why we've been strung along for months regarding a new R1 official driver..?

I failed at the very start: after i uninstall the nvidia and intel drivers, windows could not install the default intel driver. The reason might becos of me optimized the windows setup, removed the driver component to make it smaller.

    What should i do now?

You won't get a comment from a Dell rep as they've abandoned the R1. They only thing they might say would be "gotcha!" in regards to your purchase.

You can find out yourself but switching to discrete only in the bios (F2 when the alienhead splashscreen first shows) and installing the 260.99 drivers direct from Nvidias website (they have the correct ini file for the 335m).

In my own experience I didn't really notice any improvement in the games I play although you would have to try your own games to see if you benefit or not.

If you notice no benefit just stick with the 197.72 drivers from Dell. If you do notice a benefit then follow the guide in this thread (you need to do this in order to be able to switch between integrated and discrete graphics).

If anything you're going to get better battery life from the updated drivers. I notice a huge difference in SC2.

yeah me too, huge difference in SC2, also in fallout 3 new vegas, read the changelogs, nvidia specifically said that they made improvements in the 260 series playing fallout. see the changelogs in the driver download section of their website..quoting the 260.99 log :

    New in Release 260.99

Increases performance vs. v260.89 drivers in the following PC games: Civilization V (SLI), Fallout 3, and Final Fantasy XIV.

Just wanted to say thanks, I got everything working great with this thread. I did not reinstall my OS. Here's what I did:

    1. Uninstall Nvidia drivers using appwiz.cpl
    2. Reboot
    3. Ran driver signature enforcement override into test mode
    4. Reboot
    5. Ran the Intel 2226 installer until I got to an error
    6. While the error was up, copied the contents of "%LOCALAPPDATA%\extA3A4.tmp\" to system32, omitting the lang subdirectory
    7. Closed the Intel installer
    8. Ran the modded 260.99 Hybrid setup.exe
    9. Reboot
    10. Ran the watermark remover
    11. Reboot, done

nicely done, am currently waiting for a newer release from nvidia, meanwhile am testing modular installation so as to remove the driver signing requirement which may be cumbersome or more of a bother to some people.
Also testing M11x R1 optimus driver, yeah it seems that optimus works under hybrid, though workable i found that hybrid is better than automatic switching, since right now optimus kills most PB games.

Ill have to look at making a proper pack so you guys won't have to hack around so much.

Let me know if you get the separates working properly. I have had some success but nothing worth releasing yet. I have the installer setup for it already (see attached).

Optimus will always have that "..Confidential.." overlay when used with Non-Optimus enabled notebooks. The only time the overlay disappears is when there is an external display connected.

I am going to be posting more of a how-to on how to put together these hybrid graphics drivers including the INF be sure to keep an eye on the original Hybrid Graphics master thread here. I havent had time to take a look at what you put together yet.

This procedure looks a bit strange to me. I am not sure what error comes up when installing the normal Intel drivers but if it actually installs them it adds the Intel kernel service which should conflict with Hybrid Graphics. Also if Kents Hybrid driver package includes the Intel drivers they will be installed over the ones that have been copied to System32. Lastly a Protip, you can extract the Intel driver executable with something like WinRAR/7zip or even better download the zip version that Intel provides rather than the exe version.

My guess is that what you guys think is happening really isn't with the newer Intel drivers. Protip #2, you can check the actual version of the files that are installed by opening control panel -> device manager -> dbl click the intel display adapter -> click the driver tab -> click the driver details button, now each file in this list you can click and it will tell you the actual file version installed or you can click the top most and press the down arrow on the keyboard.

It appears to have worked fine. The Intel installation error was regarding not being compatible with the system, and devmgmt shows 2202 drivers on the Intel drivers.

how I was able to fix the GfxUi error...(after trying the steps presented in the first post)

Be running on integrated graphics, device manager, right click your intel display device, update driver, should update online. And that fixed it for me.

Yeah, I too was able to get this installed easily.

I enabled the intel integrated, and downloaded the latest driver for that card. Then, I put the system in test mode and updated the intel driver.

After rebooting, I installed the 260.99 pack.

No errors, and everything runs perfectly. I get better battery life on integrated and more performance on dedicated.

I assume 2202 is what is included in Kents driver package. Assuming this is the case I have a hard time understanding what running the Intel 2226 installer achieves. (My apology if this has already been talked about, I am still in serious catch up mode. Thanks in advance.)

Edit: Just did a check through of RigelKents driver package and I think I might see the issue. Let me look through it again to make sure. (Think it has to do with the Intel portion of the INF being for the old style Intel drivers and therefor not installing all of the files or settings properly.)

How would i go about just installing the nVidia 260.99 drivers. My Intel is disabled and i never use it, ever. So all i really need is the optimized nVidia drivers.

Also, is their any way i could install the latest 263.09 drivers? I don't know how to make a modified inf. Any help is appreciated.

If you don't use the Intel and do not really care about the extra power savings then why not go into the bios and set it to use Nvidia only (there is a way with most hybrid graphics notebooks unless the manufacturer has hidden it, like in the case of Sony. Setting the notebook to discrete/nvidia only will have the added the added benefit of the notebook only recognizing the nvidia GPU essentially giving you a single GPU notebook. With a single GPU notebook you can install the latest standard Verde Nvidia drivers and they should work fine.

Edit: Just read your other thread and this seems to be how you have it setup. Standard Verde drivers should work fine. If you have problems go to laptopvideo2go and download the driver and Pieters modified INF.

Yeah but the problem with that scenario is that the laptop refuses to wake up after you open the lid so you have to shut it down via the power button every time.

set "close lid" to do "nothing" the screen light still goes off, just it still runs.

    never had any issue.

my issue is finding the most compatible, and best performance drivers that work post 260.69.

Does seem like quite the issue. I have seen forms of sleep/resume issues effecting Hybrid Graphics notebooks in various ways so I guess its not that uncommon. I am surprised it is happening with it set to discrete only though. I wonder if the following setting would fix it: HKR,,LidAlwaysOpen,%REG_DWORD%,1

Running the installer achieves nothing more than extracting the files which are copied later in my steps. I suppose I could have used 7zip to get the files as well.

was unsuccessful in applying the modded drivers.

I did as detailed in first post, however, does it matter which card i'm using when i uninstall the old dell drivers? I was at nvidia high performance when i did the uninstallation step, and i uninstalled the nvidia device first.

After uninstalling the nvidia device, my intel no longer shows up. I restart anyway, and on the fresh restart, windows attempted to install it's drivers (both nvidia and intel cards) via internet but the drivers seems faulty (getting the yellow exclamation mark on devices). again, restart.

at fresh start, i disabled the intel mobile card, enable test mode, restart, proceed to install the 260.99 hybrid driver and was getting error, the installer list the physx, nvidia controller as unsuccessful.

After that i can't even get my dell drivers to install either. I had to resolve to a restore point (thank god there was one).

any advise on how i can streamline my process?

RigelKent thanks for the post, i just followed your steps and the driver works fine.
The only problem I have now is that my internal monitor switches off whenever I try to Fn+F6, so it only lets me use the discrete graphics when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop. Would this be a power issue? It only hapenned after I updated to A05 bios. I already tried downgrading the bios, updating drivers (tried all 11x versions available from dell), but haven't been able to fix this one yet. If I disable switchable graphics on the bios it's even worse.... The screen splits in 6 :-(
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

I have installed 260.99/2226 drivers, seems to be works ok. What I did ?

    * All things in first message.
    * Then I got GfxUi.exe error.
    * I tried to fix it as described by Hero1711 at page 7. It was not help.
    * Then I tried reinstall nvidia 260.99/2226 drivers. It is failed with unknown error.
    * And finally, I tried reinstall nvidia drivers with Custom setup + Clean Install (Remove old drivers, reboot, install new one).

Today I will try new drivers in action in Fallout New Vegas. Thanks everbody, great job!

Have been running the latest install for a while and can say they install fine is instructions are followed and do switch fine.

Have not had any BSOD's or anything I can blame on these drivers so - thanks for getting them together much appreciated.

Can I get what version the Intel drivers are actually being used from more people using the instructions quoted. Id like to know if 2226 is really working or if it is using 2020 of the Intel drivers still (the last 4 digits of the version is what I use). It is very important to future modding with the R1 that we know what really is going on here.

    Driver assembly version: 8.15.10. 2226

I just unplugged my AC adapter, and at 99%, it's giving me 4:19 hours of battery life on Intel Graphics...

Either something's wring with the drivers, or it is untrue that FN+F6 switches 335 to IGP right away instead of waiting 15 minutes.
