is it really worth having 8GB ram in a laptop with such a slow processor![]()
-
lol overkill it, if you got it $! but really i never have issues alt+tabbing with 20+ open windows in firefox, Ive used 4.03gb of it at most and was running stable but that was me trying to use allot. I also use photoshop which really is nice when copying huge images to clipboard. so I WOULD recommend spending the extra $50 if you got it.

nice how can you test ur 3rd marks ?

download 3dmark06 basic free edition

6468 using 188drivers. No GPU oc. I think there might have been an issue that got resolved either by accident or not when you guys installed diff drivers. In any case its good to see performance for you in the proper range especially in games.

jsut did mine 6308 with things like steam skype ect running now with everything off its 6400 .... a big increase but pointles as i needsteam to play most of my games
-
64xx with 86 processes and 44%mem use before bench. This is the way it SHOULD be though... I have nothing special and most processes will be idle.
All that said, if your games get good FPS then screw what benchmarks tell you.
Extra note: EVERY time I tried to GPUOC, system perf suffered and 3dmark score dropped into the 4k range. Just having it installed seemed to cause a problem even though reset to defaults. Uninstall and 64xx comes back. odd. My GPU doesnt like OC to be sure. Tried two diff apps.
Edit: physics was default. Assumed to be enabled. CPU was OC'd -
First off, two things;
1) Thanks RigelKent for the hard work
2) Wow these drivers are fast.
Also rolled back at one point due to blue screens and then realized what the problems was.
Get this, it only blue screen with wireless on and being connected at 5ghz on my new (changed roughly the same time) net gear router. Reverted routers, problem was gone.
Bug in the wireless drivers i guess. -

Wrong thread?

..... maybe

I disabled System Restore/UAC and that other one (the one about Windows Update if it can't find the drivers on the comp <-- something like that).
After successfully installing the new driver can I re-activate all of them?
EDIT: I get the gfui.exe error. I tried hero's workaround with the C:/Users/AppData/Temp stuff but the final folder (tmp) isn't in there. I have the installion running (but not installing). Why isn't it there?
EDIT2: Someone mentioned that going into device manager and updating the intel driver will fix the gfxui.exe problem. Trying it now. I'll edit again and say if it works or not.
EDIT3: Reverted my drivers back to the old ones -_____- guess I'll try again
EDIT 4: I still get the gfxui.exe has stopped working error. How can I fix this?
EDIT 5 (final one lol): I copied and pasted everything from the driver.driver folder into system 32 and it seems to have fixed the problem.
Thanks! -
lovin the new drivers games run smooth, but it doesn't seem to take the same kind of Overclock as the stock dell drivers could.
-
-
for some reason whenever I use the new intel driver my brightness settings will dim no matter what I set them to. When I watch a movie, maybe 5 minutes later it will dim even after I change the settings to "never dim" + max brightness
any way to fix this somehow? -
can we make this a sticky please?
-
Thank you for all the work on these drivers. Took two times but they installed and I am very pleased. Do like this M11x notebook!!!
-
I finally got these working after several false starts yesterday. I also had the gfxUI.exe error, even after following the amended steps in the first post to the letter. I got rid of it by pasting these three files from display.driver to system32:
gfxSrvc.dll
GfxUI.exe
GfxUI.exe.config
The intel display panel doesn't launch but the right mouse button menu works from the icon in the system tray.
Thanks so much for putting these together! Looking forward to trying some games now... -
ah am so jelouse ?
still no simple way for it ?
but still thank you guys for doing an amazing job -
it's really not that difficult. If done right it takes maybe 15-20 minutes? -
but like it will be in windows test mode or something like that ?>."< kinda confusing ?
-
*** THIS ISN'T THE STEPS. JUST SOME DETAILS OF WHAT I DID, USE THIS ALONG WITH HERO'S/OP'S STEPS (sorry OP I can't remember your name lol) ***
1. I used safe mode to remove the intel/nvidia drivers. rebooted.
2. windows re-installed the intel driver.
3. OP said something about "Standard Driver or something" (basically you need to have 2 drivers in the Display adapter list so when you disable the intel driver you have a back up driver so you won't get the black screen)
4. Followed the rest of the steps
5. I got the gfxui.exe issue but I just copied and pasted everything from the driver.driver file into the system32 folder and that seemed to clear it up.
By the way. Test mode is from the program that the OP posted. Once you enter test mode you stay in test mode. So it's not like you always have to turn it on. You can turn it off whenever you want but I think the drivers wont work out of test mode.
Good luck -
btw, looks like these drivers break the keyboard lcd brightness shortcuts (Fn+F4, Fn+F5). The OSD still shows, but there's no change in brightness.
-
Brightness hotkeys work fine for me on Nautis'. Just about to reinstall RK's driver, pretty sure they worked fine under them too.
EDIT: Yep, fine under RigelKent's.
@AK - I don't use the OSD either, what a waste of cpu-time and memory. -
mine's fine too. didn't even have to re-install the OSD. maybe you should try re-installing though
-
I seriously just followed the directions on page one and the driver signing instructions in this thread. I have 0% issues switching graphics with no errors, and no brightness issue.
-
-
Well I just rolled back to the official drivers, though I might give these another try at some point. So far I've only found one or two games that somewhat benefited from them and one of those (BFBC2) just doesn't run smoothly enough for my taste, though that's on the cpu rather than the drivers. Great to see the community continuing to work on drivers even if Dell's given up!
-
Been trying for over 3 weeks, still no dice
Tried RigilKent driver's first; getting a black screen at the middle of the install and it never recovers; had it left on for about 30 mins and still no results.
Tried the very new 265 drivers, they install, but that's about it, can't get them signed even when I ask the NGO tool to sign them.
Now downloading Nausil's 260.99 drivers and will be testing that out, hopefully it'll be working! -
Make sure when you disable the intel driver prior to installing the new drivers you have the Nvidia driver present so it will change automatically to the Nvidia which won't give you the black screen (or at least that's what I think happens) -
"Edit Boot Options"
Then I screwed something there somehow...
I got there by pressing F10 and mine shows (in the editable line)
[ /TESTSIGNING /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
At this point, if I try to boot into Windows, it gives me a "device not found" for my hard drive
Actual error is 0xc000000e
"The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
I'm wondering which one... -
I'm pretty sure you can just spam f8 and you'll end up at the safe mode screen.
I think it's f8 though. The options on screen are f2, and f12? so that means f8 is the safe mode one.
Just keep pressing f8 when you reboot and it's either after the Windows logo or after the alienware logo loads. -
Getting the same error, I'll need to wait for my girlfriend to come over with her 8GB USB key to get Windows on it at that point.
-
Yesterday I got some Code 31 error where my Nvidia driver suddenly failed and under "display adapter" it said that Windows could not find the registered driver for the Nvidia one (something like that).
has anyone else gotten this before? It was fine all day and suddenly it just failed. I redid the steps and fixed it but I want to know why this happened all of a sudden. -
I get some vid crashes with FF4beta7/8 so it might be an application as a trigger.
-
Crashes with beta software are pretty par for the course.
I don't understand failure to install RK's driver though. It doesn't need to be signed, just needs test mode.
When I last installed, I was still using Nautis driver - not in safe mode, didn't disable anything - the install just worked.
It detected an existing driver, uninstalled it, made me reboot and then was running a basic video (possibly VGA) driver anyhow.
YMMV.
I did have to change the audio drivers when using HDMI.
The TV audio device disappears when you try to use it.
For those who don't know the trick:
Plug the TV in, use WIN+P to change to duplicate mode.
Open the Nvidia control panel.
In the setting for resolution, choose (1024x768 no audio)
Open device manager, audio devices. Right click your tv name, update driver, choose which driver. Set it to Nvidia.
Change resolution back to whatever + audio -> WIN.
There's probably other ways, but that was the first I got working while the pressure was on -

N260.99/I2246 64bit M11xR1
With these drivers - I cannot get any type of enhanced video to work, unless I boot into Windows w/ driver signing disabled via pressing F8.
Even in test mode, etc - I cannot get this setup to work at all. -
for some reason after I re-installed the drivers the brightness won't change when on the intel driver.
It sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. Anyone know what can solve this problem? -
Any update with the new nvidia driver 266.58?

Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
One issue I am having (not a big issue) is with the HDMI out. When I plug my TV into my system (via a receiver) it won't show up in the NVIDIA Control Panel. I was trying to set a custom resolution but according the the NVIDIA control panel its not connected. According to Windows 7 display options it is connected and Monitor 2. When I do a "Identify" in NVIDIA Control Panel it identifies the TV as "Monitor 3". So Win7 sees it as Monitor 2 and NVIDIA as Monitor 3..strange? But the picture shows fine and everything but I ahev some overscan and I like to fit the desktop to the screen.
-
Sometimes switching will not work but heck even the Dell 197 drivers won't switch for me for some reason unless I run a few re-boots. -
I guess I should be brave and leave the comfort of 260.63 and move to the updated Intel chipset and new Nvidia hybrid driver.
Thought I'd wait and see what develops, but Nautis and RigelKent seem to have gone their own ways.
Maybe like fairies, if we all REALLY believe and clap our hands they'll come back. -
-
EDIT: found the driver! Now for the instructions... Are they similar to the original post? -
As the Nautis hybrid 260.63 driver set only supports the 2020 Intel chipset.
Nautis latest, that I'm aware of, is Nvidia 265.90/Intel 2226 this has been shown to work on the M11xR1
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/530309-m11x-r1-260-99-hybrid-drivers-intel-2020-a-13.html#post6915942
If you follow the link in Nautis signature you can then checkout Nautis thread in "Nautis1100 Hybrid and Optimus Drivers".
His first and updated post explains the process you need to go through to sign the required drivers and etc.
Good luck, but indications are that you should be fine. -
These drivers work, end of story you may have to muck around a tad, heck i had to run various unpacking tools to fix the original driver issue.
Just read the steps laid out, don't skip any cos your in a hurry and it will work fine for u 2. I keep my laptop in test mode, this is not risky it simply allows drivers like the old ik8fangui temp control program to run. if u see instability caused by recent drivers then boot into safe and remove them. u will never learn if u dont play!!!!! -
