If you know someone nearby with a r1 you could test it that to see if its the card or the r2 that causes the problems.
-
I'm not using the MR4. I'm using the MR15 on a R3.
-
Is anyone successfully using two msdhc cards in their MR-15 and if so what revision m11x do you have? Thanks.
-
MR15 seems to be working on the R1 and R3 but the MR-04 doesn't work for me on my R2 so if someone that does have an R2 and the MR15 please test!
-
-
FWIW I got the mr04 (standard size sd), and its working fine in the r3. Im getting around 9mbs download from it with a class 1 card (just for test, getting a class 10 soon).
-
then why does it not work on my R2 then? i have no idea!

Does anyone have a tutorial of how to change the disk from removable to fixed? I have found one or two online, but they only work on 32bit versions, or meant only for Windows XP.
Trying to move pagefile/pictures/downloads etc onto it. Pagefile wont show up because its not fixed. -
I am not sure about moving the pagefile to the cards but I moved my music and pictures and was able to link them to the Windows 7 Libraries. This way they are still easy to access via My Pictures or My Music shortcuts.
Add Unsupported Removable Drives to Windows 7's Libraries -
i'd also be very interested to know if the swap file can be successfully moved on micro SD via this MR15 card reader....it's the only thing that is putting me off from purchasing one ASAP.
-
Does anyone have a 64bit compiler program? There is a 32bit driver that does such that you simply cut and paste your cards info and then install into system. I think it included the raw code with the download though to recompile on a 64 system....?
http://www.ehow.com/how_5941768_make-flash-drive-local-disk.html
The only other method I can find is a boot program that alters the actual firmware of the SD card to be seen as a fixed device. Though this can be dangerous if it fails. -
dang.
nice find though. -
Took a great amount of searching to find the right word combination. No one has any compilers?
-
Okay, so I just bought two SanDisk 32GB Class 4 microSD cards, and I'm about to order the MR15 for my M11x R2, but I'm a little hesitant since no one in this thread has confirmed it will work with the R2. Anyone tried it yet?
-
some have said the microSD ones work but i know for sure that the SD version of the board i got does not work on my R2. it seems to really only work on R1s while R3s are in the same league as the R2s.

Hey guys, I used the MR15 Mini-Card adapter to add two micro SD cards into my M11x, I purchased a 64 GB micro SD class 6 speed ($115 ebay) and an 8 GB one to use with ready boost, to boost hard-drive speed.
MR15 works great and reads both cards fine.
Here is the link for the MR15
MR15 (Dual Micro SDXC/SDHC/SD Cards to mPCIe Adapter)
If any one wants more details just ask -
Cool find! Where does this attach internally?

just remember certain dell BIOSes lock the WWAN port to DELL cards only so those who have it working should post what BIOS they use.
-
The wwan port is not locked on the m11x. Its just a usb port in a pci form.
But, in the case that you find it not reading, cover pin 20 on the part you are trying to install and it should work just fine.
If you read this whole thread you will find all the info on this topic.
Actually, read this thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/593994-micro-sd-flush-side-m11-r2.html
This is where it all started. -
Despite no one being able to confirm that the MR15 works with the R2, I bought one anyway and it works great. I put in two Sandisk 32GB Class 4 microSD cards to free up some space on my 80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD.

Hi Guys,
Anyone tried the raid option? USB Flash Drive RAIDers of Windows 7 IT Expert Voice I am really considering to buy this so raiding it for better overall performance. -
Thinking of buying one of these for my R1. Can anyone tell me what they use for shipping?

I order it and arrived in France in 6 days. It ships from Taiwan in a padded envelope. Everything was perfect.
-
Was it sent using regular post or courier (ie: UPS, etc) I'm kinda guessing it would be sent using regular post, but wanted to make sure.
-
katalin_2003 NBR Spectre Super Moderator
It's regular post. And IMO, choosing express service, you'll end up paying more for shipping than you pay for the item.
-
Hi, i don't have a wwan card on my R3 and i'm very intersting getting the M15 with the bracket option. Where could I get them on Ebay ?
Cause, through the site i'll pay shipping cost twice !!! One for MR15 and one for the bracket ...
Excuse me for my bad english. -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
They did not charge extra for shipping the bracket, but shipping was a little expensive to begin with (Shipping was $18, but I got it in 4 days) The M15 was $14 + $2 for the bracket. I haven't really seen them much cheaper. -
Thankx ThatOldGuy for your answer but it was exactly that i didn't want.
I finally found it on ebay for 24.80 $ with shipping cost.
Otherwise, I saw we could use a mPCI-e card doing WLAN and GPS, is it really true or just a fake ? -

Wondefull. I 've just have to find the right reference .. there are so much card model on Ebay ...
Thanks. -
My own experience with the MR15, ordered from the website listed in this thread. Ordered 2x32GB Sandisk MicroSDs off of Amazon, installed and everything works flawlessly.

Say I get this:
MR04R (SDHC/SDIO Card to mPCIe adapter ver1.1)
or
MR15 (Dual Micro SDXC/SDHC/SD Cards to mPCIe Adapter)
Would I be able to use either of these to boot Windows 7 from?
If not, would I be able to get a 64GB card and boot my steam games from them? I record my gameplay and my HDD is a bottleneck. The MR15 and two 64GB mini SDXC's would be epic.
OR would it benefit me more getting a USB3.0 hard drive? -
The mr15/mr04r are both going to be USB speed only, as thats what the pcie slot there is set up for.
No you cant boot from them, Im sure you could run your games from them, but again, its at USB speed.
You might be better off using a usb 3 drive. -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
They are best suited to store video and music, or less demanding games.
-
From that website -
"MR15 is standard USB mass storage device. Design for Extension/Secondary HDD. Application is readyboost and backup/Storage functions. Basically, MR15 cant bootable to Windows XP/ VISTA / Windows 7. " -
Got a MR15 a few days ago and tested in my R1 using a 2gb card. Everything went smoothly so have 32gb card on its way now.
-
Excellent! Good work!
-
great job! just installed 2x 32gb cards.. works great!

Good day all, I have a Samsung Series 5 XE500C21 Chromebook (WiFi + 3G; XE500C21-H04US) dual booting ChromeOS and Ubuntu 11.10.
I am planning to pull the Verizon 3G WWAN Card out of the mPCIe WWAN slot (as I live overseas) and either put in a:
Wisair Wireless USB Card (UWB)
https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.wisair.com/wp-content/2012/PB/PCIe_ProductBrief.pdf
or...
MR04 (Version 3.0) Flash SD Card Reader adapter... I am planning to use a 64GB SDXC for storage of my music, E-Book, and PDF files only.
MR04 V3.0 (Flash Memory Card Reader (MiniCard adapter for SD card)
Any advice about either of these options?
I know I already have an SD card reader on my chromebook but just thought a SDXC card would be safer plugged in internally. Any recommended SDXC cards that I should considering using?
BTW: I am replacing the factory installed SSD (16 GB San Disk Mini-SATA PCI-Express SSD) with a MyDigitalSSD 32GB Super Cache mSATA SSD.
Cheers and respects. -
that wireless usb thing is interesting...
-
Yes! I have been rather intrigued as well... I have already thought of a few uses... just don't know anyone who has had one to hear how well they work. Could come in handy, but am starting to think that an internal SDXC storage card drive may outweigh the coolness of a UWB Card. Your thoughts good sir?
-
I can see alot of uses for the uwb card, but I dont see any practicle ones... it seems like it would be a fun little gimmick type thing.
-
Yep, exactly my thoughts as well... although I wasn't completely sure if I might have been missing an important use of uwb card.
-
Sorry if I a resurrecting something old. Also hello, this is my first post.
I've recently fitted the dual SD card thing into myM11x R3 and it worked beautifully. I fitted two 32GB cards.
My one question though is: Is there a way to combine the cards into some sort of spanned volume. Windows 7 doesn't seem to want to turn SD cards into dynamic disks.
Thanks for any help guys! -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
-
They were bought together so I guess they are the same.
I've tried using the disk manager but it seems to not be able to turn them into dynamic disks. From what I understand Windows 7 will not support dynamic disks on USB.
I suppose it doesn't help that I have Windows 7 Home though.
mPCI-E SD/SDHC/SDXC in WWAN slot? The answer inside!
