Hey, I was trying to upgrade my M15x from a I3-350m, GTX260m to a I7-740qm plus GTX560m, but today, when the CPU arrived, I tried to install it but the pc wont turn on; caps and scroll flashing which means dead GPU but when I tried another GPU it keep giving me that flashing. I tried reseating it, power drain and removing the bios battery but with no results, the only thing that worked was going back to that damn I3 lol. Is there anything else that I can do to try to make it work like any drivers, or it was DOA?

Hopefully this doesnt happen with the GTX560m that is about to arrive.

I would get in touch with the seller asap. I don't see how a CPU can be refurbished.

Hopefully you will get the help you need from the seller, I remember we had 2 different motherboards for the m15x but I don't think that's what's holding it.

The M15x you have has supported i7's from the get go. Has the seller responded? If they don't, you may need to escalate with paypal.

I managed to make it work!!!.... but now the battery is not being detected :S.

EDIT: Nvm, FN+F2 seems to have fixed the issue. I wish I had some thermal paste left thought...oh well.

Glad to see you fixed it. Any reason why you upgraded to the 740qm? At this stage in the M15x:s life cycle it would have been a better choice to save for the 920xm that is twice as fast.

Cuz the i7-920xm's price has risen considerably since the m17x r2-r3 era. I remember seeing them at $250 max at ebay during those times, while now they are like $400 compared to this one that I got for $55.

I picked up my 940xm for around $280 used from the NBR Marketplace and you just have to factor in lifetime cost. The 940xm will certainly keep going longer than a 740qm in terms of running the latest games, software etc.
I've started using a small OC all the time now and everything just seems to run smoother! 2.6Ghz (small OC) vs the 1.73Ghz of a 740QM.

When King finally posts the results of his cooling mod, I imagine it'll be possible to run bigger OC more often due to improved cooling of having the heatsink exposed plus additional cooling surface area.

THe gtx560m just arrived but without and x-plate and with black tape in the core. Do I have to remove the tape? and, how do I remove the xplate from the gtx260m and put it into the gtx560m? ty
