I have just finished setting up Arch Linux next to Windows on my M15x. I decided to not create a /boot partition and to not install GRUB. Why?

My partition table presents, apart from the Win8 and the Arch system partitions, 2 more : 1 10-30mb partition at the beginning of the drive and a 15gb Recovery, flagged as boot. So, I decided to use the already existing boot method and add an entry for Arch. I suspected GRUB to be already installed somewhere (before booting windows press F12 and pick "Diagnostic". After finishing it tries to redirect me to the OEM partition, fails, and shows GRUB rescue terminal. This means GRUB is already there, doesn't it?)

I tried to change the config of GRUB with SuperGRUB2, but couldn't do anything.

    So, WTF?

What are the first 2 partitions? Why is "Recovery" flagged as boot? Is there really a GRUB installation? Can I edit it? Should I replace it?
