ok so while i was at work today the tech guy came in to do some work, so i figured i'd pick his brain for a minute and i asked him which would be better 1080p or 900p he asked my screen size i told him it was 15'6 inch he said theres gonna be hardly any differance in the quality of the picture, except for the text on the 1080p screen would be smaller. he said laptops with a 15'6 inch screen dont run any higher then 752? so is 1080p a waste of 150$ on a 15'6 inch screen vs a 900p also i wont be watching movies on the lappy.

The main reason to get 1920x1080 is to have more screen realestate when it comes to things other than gaming (since stuff is smaller, you can fit more windows on the screen and not have to scroll as much). 1600x900 is still a good resolution for 15.6" though. If you have the money then you might consider getting the 1080p, otherwise 900p is still a good option. Framerates will also be a bit higher on 900p.

A bit will depend of what games. For example Crysis may see something like 3fps drop whist GTA will hardly see any fps hit. Anything between 2-5fps. But because the screen is so dense, most games won't need AA which means you regain the lost fps by not using this.

text size can be changed, so its not a big deal. if you like more desktop space 1080 is the way to go.

    Without changing text
900p maybe around size 11-13 text in a word document

1080p maybe around a size 9-11 text in a word document

Just guessing but there is a noticeable difference. Hope that helps some.

Honestly, for the M15x, I would really get the 900P screen. I have had both screens, and I really dont notice the difference in anything, except real small differences in Bluray movies. But in games, I dont see anything.

If you want the notebook for gaming, get the 900p. If you want it more for movies and media, go for the 1080p. Its a really small screen for 1080p. Now on the M17x......its a whole different story. lol.

I have the 1080p on my m15x and also on my older HP laptop and I wouldn't change it for anything. Granted I'm young and my close vision is still good, however, it makes multitasking so much easier. Being able to write up a report on one side of the screen while having sources on the other half saves a lot of time over alt-tab every few seconds.

For movies, if you have the BR reader then you might as well enjoy them at native resolution, right?

For pure gaming the 900p is better as the graphics card doesn't have as many pixels to render every frame :)

It all depends on your use :)

Sorry for being offtopic here OP.

@Inap: bro I love that desktop concept of urs..can U Plz help me recreate it on mine. I'm more of a theme guy myself but I like that MacBook-like taskbar of urs. What are u using? I'm stuck with breed theme with AlienGuise ever since I bought my M15x last April and frankly it's getting kinda boring. I need to find a new avatar for my lappy so can u Plz suggest me any better alien themes for win7? Thanks.

its really nothing special, just using a tron wallpaper along with object dock.
if you want the wallpaper, i can link it. but its pretty easy to find with goggle search.

I have to say i will never go down from 1080p on a 15inch (i wish they still did 1200p) and for anyone who says that the icons are to small or the text is to small just turn the dpi up on the display its now made easy in windows 7 if it were an option i would have a retina display in my m15x ( yes i no thats not possible yet) laptops screen resolution have been stagnant for years now especially compared to mobile phone displays with 300+ dpi

Similar threads on this topic exist, my usual comment is something like "I would rather watch a 1080p movie or do some hi def gaming on my Samsung 52" @ 200hz any day"

I preferred the 900p screen over the 1080p for gaming. In most game that I play there a differences of 10-15fps between the two screen.

I would not get a lesser rez screen than the maximum rez offered.

    Especially for $100 less.

    Its a no-brainer. Get the 1080p.

    I only have a m11x.

If the 900p or 1080p were offered I would get either one.
