You should get it for free! :) Or, just get it. 10 bucks is good for another 2gb. :D

If you want it to run in dual channel, shouldn't you have two of the same type of RAM? As in, either two 2GB sticks or two 4GB sticks? You might get slower performance with one 4GB and one 2GB stick.

I don't think the size matters on the the sticks. For optimum dual channel performance it should apply to the speed. So if you had one 1066 and one 1333, both would only operate at 1066. So if it was 2+4Gb but boh 1333MHz then it should be fine. That was my impression anyway.

Should really go with the quickest. 1333MHz is what our M15x's can take but no higher.

Umm you already got 1333 RAM. 667 x 2=1333, ddr ( double data rate )

Well, in my opinion, the performance difference of running in dual channel or not should be minimal, given that the RAM is much faster than the slowest component: hard disk.

    KingSeth

You should obtain the 6 GB. It will save you money. Here is how:

    a. If you go for 6 GB:
Current RAM configuration: 4 GB + 2 GB

If you upgrade it to 8 GB RAM (maximum RAM) in the future, you will only need to buy only one 4 GB RAM to replace the 2 GB RAM.

    b. If you go for 4 GB:
Current RAM configuration: 2 GB + 2 GB

If you upgrade it to 8 GB RAM, you will only need to buy two 4 GB RAM modules to replace both 2 GB RAM modules.

You see, the end result is that you save money by just buying one 4 GB module in the future, if you take option a. The only economical reason of option b is that you predict the price of one 4 GB module will be less than $10 in the future, at the time when you want to upgrade the RAM to the maximum.

I bought my M15x with 6 GB from Dell with the same reason as mentioned, but my upgrade from 4 GB RAM to 6 GB RAM is not as cheap as yours. :(

KingSeth, the choice is yours. :D

6GB is worth $10. And it will run Dual Channel.

But sad to see so many of you have no clue on dual channel. There is a sticky. Also mixing speeds has zero to do with dual channel. Mixing speeds down clocks all to the lowest.
