    Hey guys,

Was playing Skyrim yesterday and noticed my laptop felt reaaaally hot. So I just installed GPU-z, and with basically just my browser and a few programs (origin, skype, utorrent) up, my temps are:

    68.5C
    75.0C
    69.5C

I'll check temps while playing Skyrim later, but these seems kinda high to me. What could the reasons behind this be, and what measures should I take?

Those are actually below the average, nothing to worry about.

Ran Furmark, went up to 102C, and I'm running stock clocks. From what I can glean from a few google searches this definately seems to be above normal - I read that some people hit 85C when running 5870 clocks so I seem to be running pretty hot...

My laptop was overheating pretty bad this summer so I had it cleaned/repaste job at a Dell repair shop whatnot place. I guess that this means they did a bad repaste job >.>

okay I played Skyrim for an hour and temps ranged between 57 and 86 - sounds a lot more normal. So my questions are, are temps for the furmark test too high? And also, with the heat my card is running would it be okay to run 5870 clocks

Hahahaha I just checked the 6970 thread and apparently my 5850 is running hotter than a 6870 would in the m15x :D so obviously not optimal temps :D

thanks for linking the other thread, I've taken measures and bought canned air to clean vents, and artic silver thermal paste. I've heard that replacing thermal pads is a good idea too, which thermal pads should I get for the m15x?

Also, if theres anything I forgot feel free to mention - I was wondering if I need an anti static bracelet for a repaste job?

furmark is made to burn your GPU, it will give u higher temp than when u play most of the game...

as of repasting, if u don't have anti static wrist, just touch the wall for few second before u start open n touching gpu part..., and in my case, i won't wear static collecting clothes before do this kind of job, hehehe

okay so I've had gpu-z run a log while I played skyrim for like 1-2 hours, and highest temp was 107 (!!!)

holy ****ing , thats scary :S

I've got compressed air + paste on the way, and will def buy pads...

hopefully its just dust + bad paste job, would rather not have to replace the fans :(

Also, looking at the GPU-z log, it seems that the fans run at 30% no matter what, until gpu temps hit 95C, then it goes at 100%. Any way to regulate this so that its a bit more flexible?

GPU-z will always report the fan speed at 30% and if you look at the rpm it ranges from 0-360ish max. The problem is with amd sensor or something. Just ignore it. If you want to see your proper fan speeds use hwinfo32/64 instead. Your fan/heatsink will be fine. It'll just be dust build up, and in need of a repaste. You'll be fine. On a fresh repaste my 5850m idles around 40-43c.

use HwinFo64 (or 32, depends your window) and create custom auto profile for fan speed.
