Want to upgrade my m15x with a 7970. Can I use the x bracket from my 5850 with the 7970m? If not what x bracket to purchase?....

I think it might be fine. The GTX 260M/460M is not the right shape but I believe the backplate from the 5850 works, I used the backplate from a 6990M and it was fine.

Well with the next gen AMD releasing soonish the 7970M might be discounted further by xmas. It is a fantastic GPU! Running at the clocks in my sig no sweat blasting through the games!

You ought to only consider the 7970M or 680M for this machine! 7970M is plug and play but the 680M runs more efficiently due to lower clocked vram with lower voltage. Of course the voltage can be raised if need be but the M15x might struggle with power consumption as it does with the 7970M when voltage is set over 1.05V.

They are faster for sure. The 770M oced heavily might be able to just about reach the 7970M. However the 7970M is much more efficient when running at stock at an undervolt to match that. Now if you then OC the 7970M you simply leave the 770M behind. There is a big gap between the 770M and 680M and a huge gap between 770M - 780M!

It goes 770M at the bottom by clear margin. 7970M and 680M fairly close (unless you monster OC the 680M something we can:t do due to power restrictions) and then the clear winner the 780M which consumes all the power on the grid.

Anyways don:t shop on ebay. Shop on notebookreview marketplace. There are many reputable forum members usually selling cards at a fraction of the price. Save money and have peace of mind that you can talk and know the people on here.
