I know the card is working in the M15x after scouring through the threads, but does anyone know how to go about getting it to actually work in the laptop. As in, xbracket/heatsink changes? power consumption with say a 920xm? any need to mod inf files? Or whatever might be entailed in upgrading to the 680m.

It should work exactly the same as long as you have the correct nVidia drivers, make sure to get rid of your 5850m drivers completely with some third party software that can remove any trace of them. Also of course make sure you're in A09 Bios. I think any x bracket would work, the one for your 5850m or any old ones you have. Power consumption should also be less.

The nvidia x-brackets(260, 460, etc) work fine. I think even the amd one's might work, but its probably best to have the nvidia one.

It is almost plug in play, except you probably have to flash a vbios.

The latest drivers should install fine without any inf modding as well.

does the card itself seat well or do you have to do some hammering to the heatsink? anyone know how temps/power consumption is in comparison to 5850m or the like?

No hammering should be needed. Temps will probably be a bit more than a 5850m.

You will probably need to modify the INF's to get the drivers to work.
