Can I ask a bit of a novice question? The Dell cards have correct fan control, but the others have quirks, ie the ones from MXMupgrade do not have correct fan control and you have to manipulate then with speedfan.

What does the future hold for me if I get one from MXMupgrade? In time will normal and integrated fan control be possible without the use of speedfan? Would it be a case of loading the Dell vbios onto the card? Or is it a case of drivers or BIOS updates on the M15x?

I would prefer to have a 'plug and play' card but getting one from Dell is proving difficult.

On a side note, how much could one expect to get for a 5 month old GTX460M in the UK?

    Cheers all.

you can control the fans with HWiNFO, there's automatic and manual control in there.
Just google for HWiNFO m15x and 6970, you'll find what you need ;)

That's right. And it has an auto start function so you don't have to bother about starting it everytime you boot your system.

I can't disassemble the BIOS and fix the problem there, but I'll look in a hardware solution as soon as I have a bit more time for this. I already tested a very simple circuit with some thermostats and NTC thermistors, it works but it's a bit too slow for adjusting the fan speeds. So I have to look at making a PWM fan control... should be possible I think, but as HWinfo32 works so great it's momentarily not a the top of my to-do list.
