Hey guys I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the sound card on the m15x to something 7.1 surround sound capable. I am really looking foward to getting a razer tiamat 7.1 gaming headset. I don't think that the m15x sound card is capable of driving such and advanced headset. It is likely that the card in the m15x can be upgraded (the m15x seems to take everything).

    Thanks!

I'll do some research on it I guess. I really want that headset, the sound quality would be out of this world!

Are you sure that would work? These headsets need 5 3.5mm headphone jacks to run. That looks like it only has two(four). Also do you think it is possible to upgrade it internally. Like the sound card replacing my old one. Or is the sound card integrated into the mobo.

you need to find an accessory which adds 7.1 analog ports to this card. You can see the picture of this accessory in the link i wrote. Or you can go international, and buy this card from some country where this accessory is bundled with the card (like here in Turkey).

This card is the best solution I`ve ever found. As it is not an usb card, it also improves FPS in games! I`d like to remind you that usb intercface uses cpu, whereas expresscard doesnt. You can search internet for tests, you would gain at least 2-3 fps per game.

Hahaha that's sweet, but I'm running out of fast usb ports. I have a fan cooler underneath, razer mamba, logitech g930's, and if i get a sound card I will have nowhere to plug it in. Also if I buy a usb expansion kit, the headset might have a low response rate, or my razer mouse will feel unresponsive. Basically I need a fully gold plated usb expansion kit.

Yes I never realized that, thanks... :) Do you get 7.1 output using active DP to HDMI adapter? I searched ebay but I couldnt find one, and I want oneeee :)

oh and I`m gonna buy 3d monitor too so thats why i am asking for active adapter

Currently have my AW2310 3D monitor hooked up via the active dp adapter. (dp to dual dvi) Thats working great..

My plan is to hook it up to a 3DTV / Sound System (with 7.1) as well.. however your right active-dp-to-hdmi-adapters are not available.. i suspect active-dp its not necessary with hdmi 1.4 ??
Still in the process of exploring, confusing.. all 3DTV have hdmi, but not dvi or dp.

Anyway here are the parts that nvidia recommends for setting it up:

Well did some more investigation on the net. The whole hdmi including new 1.4 found in 3dtvs today just does not match up with resolutions you can get with dvi or dp capable monitors..
Also all 3dtv -that support it- only have 1x hdmi 1.4 which is just not enough. Out of 4 hdmi only 1x 1.4

NVIDIA's system does operate just fine on HDMI 1.4 3DTVs, but display formats are limited: 720p60 or 1080p24 only.
Only with a dual-link DVI monitor can you enjoy 1080p60 with stereoscopic 3D, or indeed any accepted gaming resolution.

So defer from my plans untill this gets better. Lesson taken

Back to the 7.1 thread :)
