    Hey guys,

Long time no post here. I'm currently running a M15x with a Dell 7970M and 920XM CPU. I have the opportunity to aquire a 770M for very cheap. From what I've read though, it doesn't seem clear whether the 770M is a winner or not. I know the 970M is the card to have at the moment, but how does the 770M perform vs the 7970M?

    Thanks guys

    Mike

According to notebookcheck benchmarks, the 7970m outperforms the 770m. This is at stock clocks. The 7970m is known not to be a good overclocker. I am not sure about the 770m though. The 770m consumes less power so it may run cooler and allow for more overclocking on the M15X. The 7970m runs pretty cool itself. I had one before it crapped out on me and it was a good card, but at that price range I'd rather get a 680m.

I looked into this card awhile back and concluded the 3GB VRAM is a bonus and if overclocked fairly high it can match 7970M in games (mostly due to driver optimisation) but not benchmarks.

Thanks for your replies guys, it seems like the 770M is not a winner. My upgrade path thus far has been 260M -> 6970M -> 6990M -> 7970M. The 6970 was actually replaced by the 6990 under warranty!

I've had Dell cards, and the 6970/6990 were Clevo cards. What I'm not familiar is with the MSI cards. Has anyone had experience in using the MSI cards in Alienware? I know theoretically the BIOSes should be flashable, but just wondering if the M15X would actually post with a MSI GPU.

If they're blue, it'll most likely post. There was a thread around here with a compiled list of compatible GPU's.

Can m15x use radeon hd 7970m with 150w adapter? Without overclocking the gpu or it getting hot. The card am buying is currently been used in m18x crossfire. Am buying it for £100.

I'm stuck between gtx765m 2gb vram & radeon hd 7970m 2gb vram. The radeon hd 7970m is been sold for £100 & was removed from a Alienware m18x used as a crossfire card. Is this a good card to get for Alienware m15x?

100 pounds is a good price for a working 7970M. I personally would upgrade my adapter. It really depends on your CPU though and its TDP rating. Keep in mind the rest of the system needs power too, so if you want to play it safe, upgrade your power adapter. The 7970M is a 100W card btw.

The 765m is no match for a 7970M. Even my Firepro m6000 overclocked reaches 765m levels (at least in benchmarks). The 7970M works great in the M15X. I had one, but it failed on me. It was great while it worked. You may want to undervolt it in the M15X if it runs hot. Lots of info online on how to do that.

Am using Intel i7-720QM 1.6ghz Quad Core cpu. I think it's 45w. So this undervolting. Is it a simple process. What is the name of the thread. Thank you once again for all the assistance. It's great to see how much knowledge you guys have.

I still have - intel i3-370M Dual Core CPU uses 35W. So hopefully getting Radeon HD 7970M by 22/07/16. Already paid £100 for it this morning on eBay. The seller is using Royal Mail 1st class. So one day delivery. Just messanged him this morning. So if I remove i7-720QM Quad Core & replace with i3-370M Dual Core. Will this help the hd7970m run more efficiently without overclocking with original 150W adaptor.

intel i3-370M Dual Core CPU uses 35W.

i3-370M & radeon hd 7970m with no overclocking.

Will Alienware m15x play Battlefield 4 well without crashing?

Am using 150w adaptor & need to know whether the i3-370M is better match for hd 7970m or should stick with i7-720QM. While using 150w.

Don't have funds right now. After 2 weeks planning to buy either 240w or 330w adaptor. But for now only want to play battlefield 4 & hardline. I also have subnautica & gta v.

    Thanks for any answers guys.
