I asked some similar questions in the 7970 in M15x thread but noone answered so i figured i would ask here...

Biggest question I have is, the thermal pads I have are only 1.6 W/mK are are .5mm thick.
    Electus Distribution
They are all I can find locally without paying shipping.
Am I safe to use these if I am not overclocking or should I wait and order some higher end ones?
    Are these the proper thickness?

I have also run into the issue where my copper heat pipe hits on the Capacitor... (taller grey power boxes.) i remember seeing somewhere someone else who tapped the heatsink with a hammer to make it clear... does anyone remember who the member is so i can look through and find the picture of what they did?

Please help I am 20 minutes of work away from a 7970m in my M15x and I feel stuck!

170 Views and nobody? :( well i found the pictures i was looking for here http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m15x/390-%5Bguide%5D-m15x-amd-6970m-6990m-everything-you-need-know.html
unfortunately i don't have enough posts to view them... I attempted it on my own... I hope I don't screw up my M15X heatsink.
i also figured out if you remove the clips that hold the stock screws to the heatsink you don't have to grind down the posts on the X bracket. I just used screws that don't have the "c-clip" Head so they thread deeper into the xbracket and apply the proper pressure. now i need to find thermal pads or something for the mosfets and I'll be back on target.

I am still wondering about the thermal pads if anyone can throw out some input there... i may be on my own for trial and error but at least I can leave my info behind for anyone else who wants to attempt this!
