Here's an example of 920xm temps in action. This is a screenshot of a 3dMark11 run using a 5850M video card with the 920 cranked up pretty well:

Alternatively, here's a shot of a 920xm (with a 6970M) at idle and general use.

Temps are running between 44-51 on idle/ regular usage. I tried playing witcher 2 for 30-40 mins and got a high of 70. I think I'm good...
@ Gallardos Thanks man. Now if only I could get that GTX460M I paid for...

After playing around a bit, I found the temps were a bit too high @ about 50-60 on idle so I repasted and now it's idling @ 36-50. TP really does make a a lot of difference.

    Thanks for the response.
I'm using Arctic Silver 5 and I followed svl7's guide as a reference.

I don't have any experience with AS5, but as I recall, it has something like a 200 hour curing period. So give it a little time before deciding whether to redo it.

eBAY. Just look up i7 920XM and you'll find what you are looking for.
I dealt with a seller called "extremeprocessor" from Taiwan. Purchased the CPU on a Saturday and they shipped it FedEx for FREE and I got it 2 days later.
    It was about $300

    Thanks

the term "cure time" is thrown around a lot when it comes to pastes
the only paste i've noticed a difference was arctic silver 5. that stuff actually did better after around 10 average cycles (actually using the pc for a day, not just on/off). the difference was around 4 - 5C on average if i remember right.

funny paste as5 was, for some reason it didn't like my 5870m... temps were always horrible (well not horrible but below average) no matter how i applied it.

And we were talking about Arctic Silver 5. As I said in the previous post, I have no experience with AS 5, but it has certainly long had the reputation of needing a cure period for maximum effectiveness. This from the AS 5 product description:

"During the CPU's initial use, the compound thins out to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure the best physical contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 50 to 200 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability."

It may be a myth, but the manufacturer is the source and users such as Xeroxide (and others in this forum) report experiences consistent with that expectation. Again, I have no personal experience with AS 5 and no stake in the outcome.

Lol - Arctic Silver 5 also happens to be one of greases not tested(curing-wise) by the article authors)

well I can say that my temps are now stabilized and hovering around 44 when idle.
I have noticed that my systems' performance during gaming is not as good as before. I am frequently getting lag while gaming. Kinda irritating..
