I just put in the 7.7CFM fan with some liquid ultra TIM, and ran a load test at 3.5ghz. the first 6 of the 8 cores top out at 86F and the last 2 are up at 100 degrees.....wtf? What could be the cause of that?

    4 physical cores + hyperthreading = 8 logical cores

That's not really how it works - a hyper-thread is not a exactly a core, physical or logical. It's essentially a way of making a single core work about 20-30% more efficiently by constantly keeping it fed and reducing idle time. As a result, you have more heat output. As for thermal variation - if those are *F then that's perfectly normal. If it's in *C - you probably haven't applied the paste or heatsink evenly/properly.

I have a 940xm ES and 1 core is always 5 to 8 Celsius hotter

Don't think that all is OK if temperatures are in Celsius and all cores really loaded equally.

Fan itself didn't affect personal core temperatures, just overall temperature across CPU.

There is documentation that on ES and QS chips cores are not necessarily even

BTW, r there any noticeable difference in fan performance between 5.5 and 7.7 cfm?
    P.S. Mine one is SLBLW.

Also the heatsink could be bent and not making good contact, or the cpu could be not exactly flat
