Well I just ordered a 970m and I am gonna use my m15x as a guinea pig. Apparently Slv7 has done it already but I've only been able to find him mentioning it no tests. So it should be here by friday and I will update this thread when I have it installed.

Good luck!!! Hopefully runs smooth and not too hot. Did you buy it from upgrademylaptop on eBay? Did you ask for Alienware bios?

Nope. There is no Dell bios as of yet so it's gonna have a clevo bios and i'll have to use the experiences of others with the 980m and the m18x r2 to see if I can get it to run. I will say that i've been really lucky with my m15x regardless of what I put in it it just works. I've had no trouble with the cards i've tried. They were a little more straight forward than the 800 or 900 series though. So we will just have to see.

The card will arrive tomorrow. As soon as I get home I will attempt to boot with my win7 install although I doubt it will work. It seems win8 is the only functioning os which makes me sad but hopefully it's plug and play.

It's here! I've put it in and it booted right up. I've installed drivers and ran a bench but unfortunetly it is throttling probably due to it being the wrong vbios. But I can confirm it works.

Congrats with your new card EepoSaurus. Unfortunately my 7970m has died recently and im looking for a 970m as well. Im very happy that it worked for you. Could you tell me how much did it cost to you and did you have any problem when installing, i mean is it plug and play? Thanks.

It cost me around 500 dollars and it is plug and play but the vbios is not playing nice so a mod or a dell vbios may be required I'm working on it to see if I can iron out the problems.

Maybe you should contact with SVL7 on tech inferno as he can help you with the vbios or wait for dell.. The lowest price i have found so far is 650 euro for a single 970m. Your price is much better. Is it ok if you post the link where you bought the card from? Cheers

SVL 7 trialled the 9xxM cards in the M15x.

He is a bit of a hex wizard so if you PM him and get him the vbios he most probably can mod it to work full power. Then again he might still be working on it.

I pmed him a while ago. I believe he may be working on a vbios for the 980m. Hard to say. He's a bit illusive

This is the thing that slightly irritates me about Svl7... He raises issues etc and then disappears for weeks without providing any answers.... The thing is if he spends some time with 1 person to iron out issues, then that person can pass on the info to everyone and it reduces the load on Svl7...

Well I guess but he's just a guy he doesn't have to do what he does and he makes great efforts to contribute when he can. He has a life and I don't blame him for not keeping contact sometimes. He did respond to my pm though.

There's crooked power tripping moderators on NBR?

Wow, now that's weird. Should try asking Fox to find out who it is.

There was never any comment deleted but I did see where an unprovoked personal advertisement for products was in an over 6 month old thread!
