WHQL set is the final version. If you wait, these will eventually be released on the AMD driver D/L board.

The 11.5a Hotfix set (8.85.6 driver) is pretty decent. Moved my 3dMark11 personal best up 28 points to P3169. Not bad for a 5850m.

I installed this and it crashed my system.... Windows would not load past the logo. I had to uninstall in safe mode, now I am having trouble getting an older version of CCC to install. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing you received and installed the 5850 already?

The transition from nVidia cards/drivers to ATI cards/drivers is often bumpy. In my experience, you need to clean out all vestiges of the prior drivers (ATI as well as nVidia if you have previously installed ATI drivers, particularly Dell versions), removing them through Control Panel's Uninstall a Program routine, and then booting into safe mode and running Driver Sweeper. I generally also run CCleaner to clean the registry after rebooting into Windows, but consider that optional. Then when at a clean desktop using the default VGA device/driver, install the ATI drivers in the normal way.

The basic Catalyst 11.5 WHQL set available from AMD ( ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver) installed smoothly. Those had to be removed (through Control Panel only) before the 11.5a Hotfix set could be installed successfully. That is nearly always required for Hotfix sets because of Install Manager's refusal to install a driver over a more recent driver and the confusion from the sometimes inconsistent dating/designations used by ATI. I did not use the 11.5a Hotfix from the AMD board because I couldn't tell whether they applied to mobility cards. I used a mobility-modded version of the Hotfix available here: AMD_Catalyst_11.5a_Hotfix_8.85.6RC1_Win7_Vista_MobilityMod_May5-@asder00.7z. Ignore the various warnings and incompatibilty reports and proceed. It will install just fine and works beautifully, at least for me.

I run the update and it says that it has completed but when i check the ccc it said its still 11.4(preview).
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but doesnt seem to work.
in safe mode it said that it could not load the files.

AMD has released a newer version of the 11.5a Hotfix designated 8.85.6RC2 (May 12). Includes fixes aimed primarily at Brink performance and quality plus some other odds and end. To install, uninstall the 11.5 or previous 11.5a Hotfix through Control Panel and then run Setup from the destination folder. As always, ignore the warnings and failure announcements and proceed. It will install properly. https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/203...atalyst_11.5a_hotfix_8.85.6rc2_win7_may13.exe

Cool I just wen the safe option - uninstalled through the installer. Seems strange because when it removes the ATi driver, the screen flashes and still uses native resolution with 32bit colour. Nvidia's didn't. Ran Driver Sweeper just to be safe. Seems ok. Will bench tomorrow :)

I get the best results uninstalling the existing drivers through Control Panel/Uninstall a Program/ATI Catalyst Install Manager (right click, Change, Next, Express Uninstall All ATI Software, etc). Then, following a reboot, if any driver other then the Windows VGA device/driver is loaded, uninstall that driver and any associated software through Device Manager. Reboot and repeat until all of the old drivers are removed. Once the VGA driver loads, install the new Catalyst set in the usual way.

I was the opposite. These drivers are a dream. I used to be unable to play games with an OC'd CPU with my ES card. Now, running 22/22/26/27 @85/57 zero throttling. I don't know why but it just happened. Keepers for me :)

I'm gonna bench these tomorrow and see if they solve my crashing problems. So far I can hit 14.4K GPU in Vantage, getting close to that sweet 15k.

i have been dying to get 15k, pretty sure you can get it since you got more shaders, your clocks won't need to go that high.
